Man, Thorfinn needs the biggest hug (Einar, we're relying on you for this one, buddy!). I've seen it floating around (and I sort of agree with it) that this is the episode that really establishes Thorfinn's mindset. While we get the idea that Thorfinn's changed (at least in some capacity) between the end of season 1 and the start of this season, we don't really have a picture of Thorfinn's thought process until this episode. Our boy is depressed, and has no reason for living. And I think even Einar is coming to the realization that Thorfinn's really in a mental/emotional rut (Einar's sad face at Thorfinn's ear getting cut off breaks my heart a little). Also, I love the parallel between Fox and Thorfinn's confrontation and Thorkell/Canute's confrontation in season 1 (I think it's episode 19?). The idea of "you said something that's going against what I'm trying to do" and testing their resolve. Thorkell remembering Thors and testing Canute of his resolve to go against the King, and Thorfinn being all "I have nothing to live for" against the fear of death (and thus upsetting Fox).

Love that you're intrigued by Snake already! He's definitely one of my favorite characters from this arc. I can't wait to see what you think of him as the season continues :D

SERIOUSLY, I want to hug Thorfinn SO badly! But yes, we see that Thorfinn really has given up on living -- I like that idea that maybe Einar noticed Thorfinn's emotional/mental situation -- definitely heart-breaking and it makes me want to root for the two of them EVEN MORE! That's a really cool comparison with Thorkell and Canute to Fox and Thorfinn! I hadn't thought about that, but I can totally see it! Thank you for bring that up and for the comment! :)
