**Corpse-ridden Headphone Warnings**

Our boy Xie Lian is on the case, doing detective work about these corpse brides, and fitting we have Corpse Brides, silvery-translucent butterflies, possible shadiness....the atmosphere in this show is spooky and I LOVE it! And just like any MXTX work, apparently, there's something much more sinister that seems to be going on under the surface of it all.

But as we dig a little deeper, I love getting to know our cinnamon roll Xie Lian, who is capable of being quite serious when the need arises! It's going to be fun seeing his dynamic with our Deputy Duo Feng and Yao develop...I'm here for the antics to come!

Interesting that you say TGCF starts off a lot creepier than MDZS - it did start off with a demon arm killing the Mo family, but maybe that was more "scary" than "creepy"? I love that Xie Lian is such a sweet and gentle person...most of the time. But he was a crowned prince, so he can be commanding and also a badass fighter when necessary. And he's very smart and observant...about most things :) If the silver butterflies are Mr. Smirk's gimmick, then Nan Feng and Fu Yao want none of that - he's got a reputation, it would seem. More than this wrath-level issue they are currently dealing with. So it's an angry Bride, not an ugly man-ghost who couldn't get a woman the normal way. And someone has a gripe with Ming Guang, burning down all his temples over and over until the villagers all gave up on him, at least in this small area. Connie (I think that nickname fits, lol) and his band of greedy thugs are going to grab anyone/everyone they think they can accuse of being the Ghost Groom because they want the bounty and the bandaged boy would likely have no chance to explain or find an alibi (if he could even talk). I'm pretty sure they thought Xie Lian was hiding something from them in the temple (like a treasure), so that one guy took the chance to sneak in and see what's what. Selling the corpse brides back to their families so they can have last rites is the lowest of the low. And gross, groping on that one woman - he deserved a bigger rock thrown at his head. Yeah, I think beating mortals to a pulp is on the line between "don't do it" and "only do it if you can get away with it" - or, just hit them with a normal amount of strength, not your godly extra strength. They are posing as cultivators, or adventurers, so they can't go showing off godly abilities but I guess smacking a tree or two is enough to show how badass you are compared to these local thugs :) I think "base ghosts" aren't even really ghosts - it's a weird translation. They're more like...animalistic undead things with a sort of human shape that will try to munch on you. One at a time, they're easy to kill but they travel in huge packs, so they're a problem to deal with when they swarm.

Ahhhhh, thank you so much for this comment and the information! That makes a lot of sense with the plot and I'll have to bring that up in the next discussion! And basically Base ghosts are zombies, fun times! I don't know why, but MDZS gave off more of a horror element than this (up until the corpse bride bits) whereas the imagery in this is more lingering and creepy (the bloody forest) -- it's hard to explain, but this series seems more "haunting," maybe because MDZS is action-heavy from the start and this seems to be warming itself up? Again....it's on the tip of my tongue and I can't properly articulate it, but I love both openings either way. :)

Here are some voice actor stuff that you might find interesting: Xie Lian's VA is Jiang Guangtao, who also voiced Jin Guangyao in the audio drama of MDZS. He was the one who introduced Bian Jiang (VA for donghua Lan Wangji) and A Jie (VA for donghua Wei Wuxian) into the career of voice acting and taught many other talented VAs (most of TGCF's cast). In some ways, Jiang Guangtao could be considered the grandmaster of modern Chinese voice acting.

And wow, the fact that they brought Wangji AND WuXian's VA's into voice acting is incredible -- it's also fitting that this "grandmaster" voices Yao. :) Thank you for the comment, the support, and the info! :D
