**MISATO-CENTERED HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

This episode is officially my FAVORITE so far and a great representation of what this show does well: Showing, NOT telling; establishing MORE mystery and intrigue; giving character development, and enough action and sci-fi goodness to keep one satisfied!

Misato is flawed, but I LOVE her character in this so far, and the relationship she is forming with Shinji (even if it's part of the "job") is just wonderful. But with all that's revealed to us...there are definitely some ominous foreshadowing (maybe?) in this episode that leaves me feeling unsettled...we shall see, eh?

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

It's been so long since I've seen someone with a fresh eye watch this episode and break it down so well. You've made me appreciate this episode a lot more than I normally do. Jet Alone is so purposefully lame looking! ;-) Akagi knew... probably why the first question she asks is about the nuclear reactor onboard. At least, that's what I think. Gotta play up the problem. Also love the ribbing on Mobile Suit Gundam and their nuclear reactors, haha. Also, I love this episode's structure. Shinji eating toast, living the Status Quo with Misato's beer drinking. Then Misato distrupts the status quo. Then at the end of the episode we are back to the Status Quo. Misato may not have changed, but Shinji changes just a bit at the end. Also, Shinji being the ultimate mankind savior wallflower. "Don't mind me, just reading this manual. Let me know when you need me to save everyone."

Oh, thank you so much for the kind words and comment! :D I'm so glad you enjoyed this episode's discussion! And yesssss, Jet Alone is rather lame looking! And interesting! I haven't watched Gundam, so that's neat that the jab was made, there! Yes, this is one of my favorite episodes so far! The structure, symbolism, and dialogue/character moments are SO good! I love that our boy Shinji is growing! And yes, our Mankind Savior Wallflower! <3 Thanks for the comment!

I actually used to consider this episode filler when I watched the series for the first time almost 20 years ago but rewatching it again alongside your reactions had made me realize I missed a lot of the nuances and details. It’s kind of like the “downtime” episodes in AOT that pack in lots of exposition and character details between major arcs that you notice more on second watch or you’re paying close attention.

Oh wow, really?! That is so surprising to me!! Oooh, I'm glad there's more to it, even if I can't know about it yet because SPOILERS. I do feel it's an "in between" episode from the end of an "arc" with Episode 6 to the next and I'm REALLY excited to see what happens with Episode 8 now! Thanks for the comment!

So, are we plying Shinji with different women types now? Not as a harem of course but do I see some references here! Also yeah Akagi huh. Did you plan just to blow that robot up and shame your opponents or?.. And one more thing. If the explosion involving the first angel has been named The Second Impact, what has been the first one?..

romaniablack

Yeah, so many questions with this episode!! I wondered about the first impact, too! I assumed maybe it was something like when the first "ice age" happened that that was first impact or something already in history? Obviously, I don't want spoilers or answers, but that's just where my thoughts were at this point. :) Thanks for the comment!
