This episode was WILD! Action, Titan transformations (KFC vs. Burger King?!), and CRACK SHIPS?! Possibly THREE major deaths?! Just...what I expected from an Attack on Titan penultimate episode for the season! There is a lot of action as we follow up on the decisions of our "suicide squad," who are moving even deeper into the fray...directly into the line of fire--err--Rumbling!

I can't believe we have only one episode left of the season! It's gone by far too quickly! Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

It is finally here 😁 Let’s goo !!

Trung Ta

Connie's saving Reiner and Annie, the two people who saved him from the past.

Be Happy

Honestly I bawled my eyes out when this chapter came out. That poetic way these two commanders went out was brilliant, adequate to them, but so painful to us!! Finally the miracle of which Uri talked happened and these polar opposites died for a common goal after talking and respecting each other! And both have the wings of freedom coat and jacket!! They are finally free!! And you know what hurts the most? Is that Keith died a bystander (not to us obviously) but to all the people in this series, no one knew he was helping Magath and died with him!! Talk about a tragedy 😭😭 Well no clean hands here!! Our guys crossed that line , and that was the importance of Conny ´s scene in last episode : it is hard and traumatic but one they crossed the line, only the mission is on their mind and the trauma bridge will be crossed later!! And you see Mikasa ´s rage and fierceness, she is angry with Eren for doing this and being away from them, angry with those Jaegerists , angry that the situation puts her in that situation which made her the War Godess that she is !! Remember in s1 ep 9 Ian said she is worth 100 soldiers .. well YES! She is scarry in that moment after being bather in blood rain and looking at us !! Also notice there is mistranslation in her line , the right phrase was : Hesitate and my friends will die!! Hange s réaction last episode was because she realized the distance they walked in an amount of time so I think she did the maths to get these facts Falco ´s form is so cool !! Remember His day dream in s4ep1 , bird titan for a FALCO (N), so fitting and also I think he is in this beastly form because it combined his internal felf (Falcon) with the beast titan spinal fluid and the jaw titan power !! Hange s reaction to the word Gamble is to be noticed, because it reinforces somewhat how hange always felt inadequate to be the scout commander compared to Erwin who always took gambles. Somewhat Hange ´s hesitancy post time skip is maybe somehow what led Eren to the Rumbling option, because she kept delaying the problem at hand and never provided , as a commander, a solution. So she felt a big amount of guilt for what’s going on. So hearing those words finally gave her the motivation she needed to act like the scout commander . And I love that Erwin still had such an impact on major characters, be it Hange, Floch, Armin, Levi or Eren to an extent It’s hard to see Annie breakdown and defeated , she, the one calm cold and collected emotionless girl .. And Conny getting the Levi treatment ! I love it!! This episode was soo good. But the next one is ultimate. So brace yourself Romania 😄 Wonderful reaction and discussion as always 👏🏼👏🏼

Maia Brodsky

I can't believe I'm leaving a comment in defense of Floch, but I don't think him wanting Erwin to suffer was the main reason he fought so hard for Erwin to be revived. In my eyes, the whole 'only a devil can defeat the titans' thing was a bigger factor.

Maia Brodsky

And now one in defense of Willy Tybur, damn. Tybur's plan didn't involve genocide, or at least he never suggested wiping out Paradis, as far as we know. His speech only addressed a military conquest and subjugation of Paradis, basically annexation into Marley, like they had done with so many other nations. Still a messed up plan, but Eren's and even Zeke's plans are much worse imo.

Be Happy

Honestly I don’t see it otherwise than wanting to eradicate the whole threat of Paradis.. because why would he put himself in harm’s way and have a play in a grandiose way to tell the truth. Knowing that he will be attacked , even killed and the world shall see it!! When he presented Paradis as the Devil Island where the rebel to the Peace Eren Jaeger detained the founding and could launch the rumbling and wipe out the world, it wasn’t only to target him or the Paradis military, it was putting a cross in the back of the Island in general before the world. So in my opinion, the grand plan was for them to destroy Paradis as an alliance, hence the use of the term genocide!! And of course I may be wrong 😄

Maia Brodsky

I'm basing my assessment on the fact that Willy cast Karl Fritz as a good guy, and Eren as the main enemy, and also the fact that when he made his declaration of war, he addressed it to the enemy 'forces' of Paradis, as in the military forces. He never talked about crushing the 'island devils', aka the people of Paradis.

Be Happy

And FLOCH (in Romania ´s voice 😝) what a character, this man went from a coward , to a commander peping his soldiers and believing in his cause.. I don’t judge him, because if we ever learned something from this story, it is that there is no wrong or right !! As Kruger said , anyone may be a God or a Devil, all it matters is for people to believe it !! And Floch has been righteously loathed this last episodes, not because he is a Jaegerist, but for me it’s because power went to his head and using his position to intimidate and kill individuals that didn’t need to be killed, he was becoming a tyrant !! Now that he is again in the battle field, his devotion showed and his dedication to Eren and Eldia is admirable !! He is so loyal to Eren because he represented his Devil, doing the inthinkable to save His people, His country. So yes Floch is on board and will fight till the end to protect Eren and Eldia. Such a conflicted emotions inducing kind of character and I love it.. his character has gone up in the popularity polls since this episode aired and I agree , he deserves to be recognized. And Gabi !! Girl never misses!! No wonder Magath loved her , as he was a sniper too 😂😂

Be Happy

Yes Maia, I understood what you were saying. What I was trying to say, is that he never outright call for destruction of Paradis, But that was ultimately what was going to happen after him being attacked and instilling fear in every country of the Rumbling and foreigns dignitaries being harmed, there will be massive retaliation !! Also if you watched the two scene, the same OST have been used to accentuate things. It is really my personal view of the matter ☺️

Brandz

I've watched dozens of hours of Romania's reviews and I can definitely say my favorite quote is "Keith never found a woman his whole life because he was waiting for Theo Magath". I literally exploded when she said that.

Albertan Motorcyclist

The decision to have Magath meet up with Keith was great, both guys are honestly so similar. They've both been in the military a long time, training their respective sides children to fight this war (even when the island didn't realize what war they were fighting). Both of them are also similar in the way they thought they could bring change. Keith thought once he was commander of the scouts he would show results and turn the tide against the titans. Magath wanted to change Marley's war policy and make Marley more hesitant to enter war, which I think after all we know about Magath is partly due to his attachment to the eldian kids. Magath himself said last episode he couldn't stand to face the fact that he had become as vile as Marley, showing he was desiring change and was among the military hoping to be that change, but until very recently he was caught up in the flow of things. Magath is shown a lot in flashbacks raising generations of warrior candidates and obviously has his reservations about it but wasn't sure how he could actually change anything about the way Marley operated. Both Magath and Keith go out making a difference, giving the rest of our crew a chance to save the world. Perfect end for the 2 characters, neither being the bystanders they once were. Overall I quite liked this episode, though I will say some of the way the action is portrayed bothers me a little. Especially after last episode showing how sad it is to kill these people who are their friends, this episode feels a little tone deaf/thematically inconsistent with the way the action tries to hype you up with the Jaegerists getting slaughtered. Most of these people never even knew the rumbling was the end goal of Eren, but now that it's started undoing it would mean the end of the island as Floch points out so they have to prevent anyone from trying to stop it. The whole scene with Mikasa slaughtering Jaegerists on the rooftop near the end and how "badass" they make it seems to undo the gravity of what's really happening and how sad it is. I'm not a manga reader but I've heard the Mikasa blood rain thing wasn't from the manga but added in here, I think that was way too much and again kinda goes against the anti war message of the show too glaringly. I'm also not a Jaegerist but at the same time I'm glad Floch got a moment to shine in this episode. He points out the reality that if the rumbling is stopped everyone on the island is doomed because of the ensuing revenge that would happen. It shows why the idea of stopping the rumbling's attack is more complicated than simply "being noble and stopping global genocide", because as with everything there are potentially large consequences for those choices. And then we get to see Floch's true skill fighting off titans and blocking Hange's attack, culminating with his assault on the boat. Say what you will about Floch but he's dedicated to his cause, fights on the frontlines, and is ready to put himself in harms way to do what he believes is necessary to save paradise.

romaniablack

Yessssss, I love that y'all enjoyed that line! It's so true! A crack ship for the AGES!

romaniablack

I definitely think it was a mix of both ideas -- but I do like that it establishes the lengths Floch will go to to achieve his goals.

My two Lost Girls. Mikasa and Annie. I can’t express to you how much I love Annie and Mikasa together interacting and I have been waiting for this content to be animated for a long while. Let both my girls be emotional and comfort each other in this shitty situation. “Sorry about that, Reiner. It seems like you’re always saving my ass. Speaking of which, Annie risked her life to save me, too. I’ve gotta pay you back sometime.” - Connie 2x4 Well Connie, you finally have! Love a full circle moment. Mappa really decided to give a Connie the Levi treatment with the animation. The fact that Connie got the Sakuga treatment along with Mikasa and Floch really brings me soo much joy. I love that for my boy! You show everyone why you were in the top 10 of the 104th! Now … since Connie has stained hands with blood already in the previous chapter, he in a way has found his resolve. ‘No half measures’ right ? He knows what he needs to do just like Mikasa and Jean. “Hesitate and we can’t stop the rumbling”. It’s as simple as that. There was alot of hate for this episode’s content online (I’d like to believe it was just a LOUD minority but still) ESPECIALLY for Mikasa bizarrely. This girl can’t even breathe and some people will still give her shit. The power my girl has. These people don’t pull an uproar when Levi does it to the Kenny’s squad. No comments from them on Reiner, Connie and Jean this episode. No comment for Floch killing unarmed civilians for 0 logical or strategical sense or Eren potentially killing BILLIONS. God forbid this women having to be ruthless so she can STOP GENOCIDE. It wasn’t like she was enjoying it. Mappa definitely added a bit more ruthlessness and added a few extra scenes of her ‘going all out’ and I can see why it made some people uncomfortable. But still the people who HATED Mikasa for what she did here … It baffles me quite honestly. And it’s not even that I don’t want to look at the different sides’s perspective because of course I do but *sigh* some people seriously need a reality check. I know it’s fiction and most people are just ‘entertained’ by what’s happening and don’t actually BELIEVE in it but I’ve spend far too long in this fandom hearing some pretty alarming stuff justifying Eren’s actions … *BIG SIGH* anyway rant over 😅 “If only Galliard was here instead of me…” Firstly the interaction where Falco hides his hands from Jean has the biggest cinnamon roll energy 🥺 What a absolute precious bean. Just goes to show how much of a child he is along with Gabi. Also great parallels once again for Armin and Falco here. Both ‘picked’ to replace someone more competent in some people’s eyes and ESPECIALLY theirs. Love a bit of self loathing for my best boys … *sigh* can their suffering just end already please Isayama. For my OWN sanity. “Seems not everyone gets a dramatic death. I don’t even know how he died.” - Jean 1x16 Keith Shadis really getting the season 1 Marco treatment here. You are very correct. Nobody has any reason to know that Keith was involved. The new recruits that he saved could potentially know something about him going after the Alliance to help but that’s more wishful thinking on my part. It seems fitting that he understood that his time was over and he might as well ‘give his heart’ for the sake of humanity. ALL humanity and not just “our country. our land”. That’s why Shinzou Sasageyo isn’t a completely changed phrase. It was revealed to be mostly rhetoric and then turned into a nationalist chant for most of Paradis but it doesn’t mean that our remaining Survey Corps can’t embody the spirit of it. It’s not completely tainted. As demonstrated by the Marley side wearing the wings (Porco, Pieck, Magath) and Keith who changed from the cadet symbol to the survey corp wings this episode for the first time since he abandoned the Commander position. The detail though that I LOVE about this scene though is the fact that it was specially Annie that Keith noted he saw when he looked on at his old students. They share a really great connection of people who are kinda envious of ‘special people’. “Going against the flow … takes a lot of courage. Maybe people who can do it are just stupid but … Well … what I’m sure of is that people like that are rare. So you can’t call them common. You can’t call them normal either. People like you … get called special.” - Annie (conversation with Marlowe) “I wouldn’t be of any use to them anyway. The survey corp needs more special.. more chosen individuals.” - Grisha (to Keith and Carla) “Do you really have to be special? Do you really need people’s recognition? I don’t think so.” - Carla (conversation with Keith) Annie and Keith were people who were swept up in the flow and admired the special people surrounding them. But both decided when the time comes to fight even if it’s a thankless situation. “If Eren dies, Paradis will sink into a sea of blood” Nice Floch. You foreshadowed what would happen to you at the end of the episode. You got shot in the shoulder by Gabi and plunged into the ‘sea of the blood’. The blood of all your fellow Jaegerists … yikes indeed. What I really love about Floch’s speeches here is how much they compare to Erwin’s. Particularly with his last speech. With Erwin he used FAITH. “We die trusting the living who follow to find meaning in our lives!” Instead of Floch who uses FEAR. “The world will take vengeance on us and kill your parents, siblings and our children!” Different situation sure but still a fascinating detail. Man oh man we are nearly at the end of this catch up reaction series. I know there’s plenty of AOT content to come but it’s really crazy that you have finally made it. Love the fact that it was the Magath and Keith ship that actually made you lose your final bit sanity. I should have known … 😂

romaniablack

It's interesting because that's been my hang up on Willy's speech this whole time -- he tells the "truth" to paint the people of Paradis as somewhat "innocent" via Karl Fritz, but that "Eren" is the enemy -- I definitely will talk about this with Episode 28 but man...what a world, when we've come from looking at Willy Tybur's speech and thinking of how horrible the implications could be to now, where it's like, "Well....yeaaaaahhhh, but alsooooooo" hahahaha!

I finally gave in & read the manga last night😂😂😂😂I waited a year, I just couldn't wait another year for a few chapters. It's going to be a masterpiece next year tho I definitely will be watching your reactions. No spoilers from me. This episode ended with Burger King turning into a mushy Burger in the water now. Floch gets on my nerves but he was beautifully animated this episode & I completely understand why he was fighting. Isayama always has to complicate matters for our scouts😭My poor Mikasa just going at it with killing her scouts. Conny getting the spotlight he deserves but under terrible circumstances😭This episode made me really uncomfortable. It's hard seeing them kill for the greater good. It's just really hard because you feel that weighing on them all. They don't want to do this. I feel like a bit of Floch wish it didn't come to this either but his resolve was just so high that nothing mattered than him fulfilling what he believes in. RIP Floch you won't be missed😗Maybe a little cuz it's sad he turned out this way. Tragic. RIP Magath & Keith. What a way to go. I was not expecting those two & thank goodness Isayama I didn't know I needed that. Two commanders realizing there roles in this war & the impact they had on the kids all for them to go out in a blaze knowing that if this means they will be happy & safe that's all that matters. Sometimes it's just that simple to want that in a war that's full of chaos. Beautiful they will be missed!😭💙I lowkey ship it too now lol The warriors getting the news that there hometown can't be saved😭as if I needed more to cry about!!! Annie confiding in Mikasa, admitting she doesn't want to fight them, she never did. When she said not even Eren that hurt my soul. She's been the main one asking Mikasa if she can kill Eren when in reality she wants it all to stop. They all do. It's such a sad situation they are in. PAIN. Gonna go watch your Sasaki & Miyano reaction to feel better⭐

romaniablack

They ARE so similar! I really love the parallels with Keith and Magath; two amazing figures that started in one place and ended up in another. I love how both of them talked about how they weren’t sure how to truly change things, but getting the chance to finally in this episode…ugh….I love that they die as catalysts for change, no longer bystanders. I just love them both and I’m really sad they won’t be in this series aside from in spirit. #RIP And yessss, I’ve heard that part with Mikasa killing the Jeagerists was not in the manga, so I definitely want to address it and I’m glad you brought it up, here! Hmmm…yeah, it’s hard because it’s kill or be killed in this episode, but the killing of the Jaegerists isn’t framed as necessarily tragic…it’s very complicated and I admit, I’m not 100% happy with how it’s framed either. Definitely worthy of being talked about in the next episode. And I am 100% with you – I loved to loathe Floch, but he was really great these last few episodes - And yeah, there’s so much at stake in all of this, and I can’t blame Floch for the views that he has - at this point, it’s just a lot of characters that are trying to make decisions they will regret the least. I really did love the animation on Floch in his scenes in this episode and I agree, you can’t fault him for his dedication and doing what he thought was necessary to save Paradis. Thanks for the comment!!

romaniablack

And yessss, the ultimate miracle – the freedom of Magath and Keith. :’) And yes, I talked about Keith dying a bystander, still, in the episode discussion, but at least WE know he was a hero and a badass alongside Magath in the end! And yes, NO clean hands here. Yeah, Mikasa expressing her anger with so many things in this….it’s insane what the Ackerman’s can do, especially when they are angry. @_@ And it makes sense both for Hange to have done the math, but also for Falco’s reasoning for being so “beastly” being tied to drinking Zeke’s spinal fluid; but I love it! Fits his motif perfectly! And yeah, it makes sense why Hange is leaning into Erwin’s strategies now; it just sucks that she waited until now to become more like this, especially looking back on Sound Argument, now. And Annie – showing this much emotion! It’s crazy! Connie just goes all out in this and Annie feels defeated; at least Mikasa tries to comfort her (because she knows what she’s going through). I figured the last episode of this season would be a crazy one to go out on…no spoilers, of course, but I’m excited!! Hoping to watch it tonight!! Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! Let’s gooooo! :D

romaniablack

And Floch has gone on SUCH a journey this season! I love that he ends up becoming this character that did all he could to save Eldia and live up to his ideals...it just wasn't enough. Gabi, girl has never had stormtrooper aim! Seriously, if our Burger King died this episode, I'm going to be sad...I will miss giving him hell, but he honestly went out at his best. What a change from season 3 to now...

romaniablack

Oh wow, it's SO tempting! @_@ Thank you for not spoiling! Maybe as it gets closer to the final part, I'll start reacting to the manga to "review" before the final season starts? It would be a nice lead up to it! Yeah, everything was SO complicated now -- but I honestly will be sad if Floch has bit the bullet -- our Burger King honestly was at his best these last few episodes. And YES, very uncomfortable in all of this, and I'm sure that's Isayama's point. And YES! Magath and Keith going out in order to save the lives of the kids they "raised" in a sense. <3 MY HEART! And Annie admitting she never wanted to do any of this and still doesn't want to kill anyone...but here we are...it's so much pain and yeah...I'm sure it's not getting any better. But good plan! Sasaki and Miyano is a nice buffer to all of this! :) Thanks for the comment!

romaniablack

The LOST GIRLS! Yesss, I hadn’t made that connection! I love that Mikasa is comforting Annie, though. That is such a crazy change (but one we could have expected) from them being enemies in season 1. So yeah, Connie finally comes full circle and helps Reiner and Annie and yeah, that animation was crazy! Yeah, no one can hesitate any longer – there are just choices and no regrets. Hahaha, your passion with Mikasa! I can see why the anime only content would have made people uncomfortable, but I do want to start Episode 28 just laying out that basically, at this point, EVERY character shy of Mr. and Mrs. Braus has committed a “war crime” at this point, but yeah, for Mikasa to get hate and not any of the other characters…that’s odd. “The power this woman has,” indeed! But yeah, I can see the BIG SIGH moment, no worries! Falco, despite being a Birdman Titan, still exudes ALL the Wen Ning cinnamon roll energy, and I love it. Still a bean, despite it all. And ahhh, I hadn't’ thought about the Armin and Falco parallels, but here they are…hmmm…they all need hugs at this point. I do feel so badly for Keith in all this…he will truly die without anyone knowing his part in all this. But I love that he and Magath donned the wings of freedom and fought to keep their “children” safe, and so they could move forward. Bystanders, perhaps, but still total badasses to the end. :3 I love them and will miss them in this series… :( And that connection between Annie and Keith is SO good! I hadn’t considered that foreshadowing with Floch and how he fell into the sea of blood! And YES! The ties from Floch to Erwin in his rhetoric! And the use of Faith vs. Fear! It is DEFINITELY a fascinating contrast and comparison, isn’t it?! I honestly can’t believe that I’m one episode from being caught up with the anime…holy cow…and yeah, Magath and Keith made me lose the last shred of sanity, but if it’s a crack ship of that magnitude that does it, I’m okay. I think. ONE MORE FOR PART TWO! **choo choo noises** let’s GO! Thanks for the comment!

Be Happy

I am sooo impatient for tomorrow ´s video!! I can’t wait!! It is gonna be an epic reaction and discussion, I am sure!! And of course, we will have the Colossal titan (or is it the founding 😝😝) of recaps coming!!

Be Happy

@Romania : crazy , right!! Honestly Isayama must open a foundation to pay for therapy for his readers!! He is ruthless with us!! 😂

Sacha

I’ve always loved that subtle nod of connection between Annie and Keith and felt it was appropriate to only mention it now. Particularly as it was in this episode/chapter that Keith mentions her. Another quote connection I missed in my first comment is this .. “So even if I’m … the kind of person who gets swept along with the flow” - Annie “All I could ever do was get swept along in the crowd. What caused me to overestimate myself so badly?” - Keith Really looking forward to you watching 4x28 with no sanity left! 😂 Cheers to MaGOAT and CHADis 🥂 they went out like heroes.

romaniablack

Yes, I wasn't expecting a nod to Keith and Annie of all characters, but I really like it! And that quotation connection! YES! That's great -- I'm glad you pointed that out! Oh...I'm a hot mess in tomorrow's review...I can't believe we're at the end of the season...my heart is in shambles after that last episode, but it's all typical Isayama at this point, right?! *sigh* I can't believe we're on hiatus from the main show after this...but thank goodness there's AOT Jr. High to give us some THERAPY. :)
