**AVENGER-ASSEMBLING HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

There's a lot I'll probably break down in Episode 25 that threw me off with this episode, but overall...Isayama, you knew we were headed here, and I am HERE for it!

There's a lot to talk about with these episodes and some INTERESTING things being set up, but Wine-chan and I are soaking in this brief moment of levity in the apocalypse...alongside the Erwin comparisons, Floch's wittle Badger Face, and how our Bisexual King gets to shine and now has multiple shipping options accessible to him. Oh, and Reiner got to nap.

What a time to be alive.

Ah yes, the time has come.

I think you got 'Children' (S2) confused with 'Children of the Forest' (S4), but in fairness, 'Children' did take place in a forest, while 'Children of the Forest' did not.

Yesssss, I didn't even bother correcting, because I figured y'all knew what I meant. :P

I noticed a theme when the content warnings appear. It’s when Eren is fully established as a ‘villain protagonist’ and not someone to really ‘root’ for. In 4x5 he intentionally transforms in the house of civilians, responds to and declares war on the world and in 4x24 the other main characters decide to go against the protagonist and their friend to stop him destroying the world. That’s the only reason I could think that the warning appears in only these two episodes and not the rest. It’s a bit of a different situation now to try and ‘root for the main character’. When you talked at the end about how Isayama wants to be like Armin but sees a lot of himself in Eren it reminded me of something. I was in Aleczandxr twitch stream yesterday and this topic got brought up. We discussed that Isayama had an interview where he talked about meeting an old childhood friend of his in recent time and he was shocked to see that his friend had managed to protect their childlike brightness that they both used to have. And that Isayama was jealous that he no longer could feel that anymore. Isn’t this basically Eren and Armin now. You’d think after all the trauma and horrible acts and just simply growing up in this cruel world that this ‘childlike spark’ would be gone but it isn’t for Armin. “When my mom sent me off, she said to be a splendid soldier. And yet, her son almost killed a kid and a friend.” I think everyone can agree that Connie was never actually going to go through with this. He’s a self proclaimed idiot but he has a kind heart. Connie was the one most visibly upset at all the betrayals that the 104th have experienced and since he lost the other half of himself Sasha, he really is half the man he used to be. Chip away at someone enough and eventually they will turn out like this and try to do something ‘stupid’ and think only emotionally. But a detail that I actually really like is the gag of brushing the Titan’s teeth. It’s really stupid and kinda hilarious if it wasn’t for that horrifying face of Connie’s (which rivals Yelena’s face in 4x18 and the actual panel in the manga) but it’s soo fitting for Connie to think up. The obvious point is that he ain’t the sharpest out of his team but for me, most importantly, it’s a sign that he has not thought this through seriously and so if Armin and Gabi didn’t turn up would it have even happened? He only got defensive when Armin showed up. To me he hadn’t fully resolved himself. Speaking of Armin. Armin isn’t inherently suicidal. At least I don’t take this situation as such. In a way yes I think this is his self-sacrificial side coming out again but I take this scene more as him taking a page out of Erwin’s book and making a ‘gamble’. A gamble that Connie doesn’t actually want to sacrifice a kid to his mum, let alone a friend. A gamble that he knows Connie’s true character and that with a big reality check Connie will come to his senses. It’s actually a really smart plan but then again such a stupid one too as it was big gamble as soo many things could have gone wrong. But if he just killed Connie’s mum or forcibly took Falco away from Connie it would have only lead to more conflict and anger. Connie needed a great big slap across the face of the reality that he can’t just kill a kid for 13 years for his mum. Plus Connie admits that he knows it would only make her suffer inheriting one of the 9 so he was already thinking about how illogical this endeavour was. This Connie side plot gets a bit of flack from some people for being ‘unnecessary’ but I really don’t think it is. We need these moments from the 104th that are character moments. Bringing their themes back full circle as Connie’s motivation from the beginning was to be a good soldier and to make his family proud of him. And so he gets the big line at the end. Because who else could say something as outlandish as that in this moment? “Because I gave my heart and my life following in your footsteps.” Mikasa also gets a lot of flack from certain parts of the fandom for this scene which I never understood either. Firstly Mikasa does not really owe this girl any kindness and in fact it would be completely out of character for her to do so. Louise is completely indoctrinated into the Jaegerist mind set which Mikasa has made very clear from season 4 part 1 that she despises them. Mikasa has been dismissive of her since 4x11. Louise admits herself here that she wished to see the new world Eren would create. By killing everyone on the planet! So no. She doesn’t owe any kindness to this individual. She’s not even cruel here but just dismissive. Plus this girl stole her possession and a really sentimental one at that and is wearing it proudly. I would be pissed off too! Also the whole Mikasa seeing the mirror between herself and Louise when it comes to devotion by also leads to her being cold towards her. There’s many factors to this scene that I find fascinating. What’s curious though is Eren’s comment about the scarf. When you think about this chronically this comment would have happened before Eren entered Paths. This is the same Eren that only a few episodes ago prevented himself and Zeke moving forward in the memories for a moment to stay and look longingly at his younger self first wrapping that scarf around Mikasa. That’s very suspicious of you, Eren 👀 What’s interesting about the symbolism of the scarf though is that Louise sees it as Mikasa’s strength. It’s the reason Louise followed her because she thought she was strong and brave. But Mikasa sees the scarf as a reminder of the beauty in this cruel world. It’s a symbol of warmth and love. So even after she hears what Eren said she STILL asks for it back. It’s proof that she doesn’t believe that the scarf was a lie. That she rejects Eren ‘will’ to cast it aside. And in a way she rejects casting Eren’s kindness and love aside too. Love how you phrased it as she’s accepting Eren’s humanity and not his monstrosity. But notice she still doesn’t wear it even after taking it back. She just wants to hang on to it… Also silly note but she’s dressed just like a young Kenny in this episode! All she needs is the hat. Some really great fanart came from this 😄 Speaking of Ackermans I would say Levi did hear Eren as he woke up as soon as the vision was over, plus he was in the Paths with Hange. It would make sense him hearing it if Mikasa could too. And we don’t have a scene where people have to explain to him what’s going on. THE INFAMOUS ANNIE PIE SCENE AND THE INFAMOUS SAVING THE WORLD SCENE Lets be real for a second. If I saw my crush Armin looking like that post time skip for the first time I’d choke on a pie too. 😂 I’d love to think that Connie laughs for two reasons. One for the sheer insanity of the situation and that it’s the end of the world and Annie is just RIGHT THERE. But also that he was reminded of Sasha for a second too. Also yes to Armin being good boyfriend material here. This scene is soo oddly charming and real demonstration of Isayama’s bizarre taste in comedy. Speaking of Annie and Armin. This is how Annie and Armin wake up Titan shifters. Annie kicks them awake and Armin stabs them awake… #couplegoals That separate shot of them at the end looking fly as hell. Mappa. You serve me soo good. Imagine being Reiner for a second! Reiner must of thought he had woken up in some kind of fever dream because really, imagine the people that have every reason to want to kill you and in turn you have also tried to kill are now surrounding you talking about saving the world with you. Oh and a wild Annie suddenly appears with them too in front of you, kicks you in the face for ‘nostalgia sake’, and having the kids that you want to protect the most with them too. I’m sorry Reiner, but you are going to have to join the pain train again so get on board *choo-choo* 🚂 next stop… Stop … Eren … GOOD LUCK FINALLY I can say that the Jean and Pieck ship isn’t just a crack ship! 😄 I was going to comment that it wasn’t just a crack pair when you were watching the Liberio attack and you were discussing it but then I thought that would basically spoil the alliance so I’ve prevented myself untill now. Please join the ship! We welcome you! Also love that Marco is never not relevant to the story and particularly Jean’s story. My sweet boy. I’m soo happy the memory of you has never been forgotten no matter how long it’s been. This is a strange chapter for me. And I’ll add a strange episode as it very faithfully adapts the source material. There’s alot of content here that I actually really like but it’s something about how it’s edited together (both in manga and anime) that it just doesn’t have a natural flow for me. It feels a lil disjointed. Plus some things I wish had more attention didn’t get it. It’s not necessarily a weak episode or chapter for me as like I said there’s a lot of scenes that I really like but still it’s something to note that I think you also clocked when you finished the episode.

Sacha

I would also note that the comments are going to get … interesting from here on out. A lot of people take sides and urmmm well basically welcome the genocide of entire world in this story. 🤦‍♀️ There’s a lot strange arguments and generalizations that some people make which are very eye roll worthy. From this point I would be particularly careful about spoilers and I guess be more prepared for ‘hateful comments’ Hopefully it’s not as awful as some comment sections as it seems to be more positive here but you never know.

The Redemption of Karl Fritz I mean (at least through the eyes of the main cast) given all the info we have, and through a utilitarian lens, Karl Fritz's plan would have done the most good for the most people. Even for the Eldians. If anything I have to commend the guy for doing so much and giving the majority of Eldians a century of a pretty good life. I know that might be a controversial opinion so let me clarify. First he was totally correct about letting the founder do as they wish given the global genocide, which the MC find intolerable. Secondly even under the most optimistic projection of the main crew saving the world (stopping the rumbling), which would mean some how taking the founders power from Eren, some people(including Eldians) on the mainland will certainly die. Then afterwards the rest of the world will come to finish off Paradis, the only way to make sure this won't happen again, and something they already prepping for anyway. So just letting the Eldians of Paradis be kill after there century of peace would have been better for everyone else and not changed anything for the people of Paradis. Am I missing something? I understand that the narrative wants us to desire diplomacy. But there's no reason to think that any of the peoples of the world desire that, or the faction that does desire that in Paradis is competent enough to obtain it. After all, they couldn't before under better conditions.

Poor Annie, she was cristallized hearing Eren say ‘ I will destroy the whole world’ and when she woke up!! Well guess what !! He did it !! That ´s insane. This chapter / episode is the least liked in this season among some fans but I think it was needed.. yes some things did happen very quickly nd didn’t take time, but being hateful of the Conny ´ subplot just because we took 6 episodes of madness straight is stupid.. this is the end so all the different parts were to be adressed and that was one of them. Falco 💔 Poor baby , learning of his brother and Galiard passing is heartbreaking !! And my boy Levi!! Why is he so beautiful even bandaged and in awful physical shape.. sigh** I love how his sole focus is on killing Zeke now.. I love how Magath despite being ´an enemy ‘ know about Levi Heichu and respect his strength !! well the beginning of the Alliance.. is a very prickly subject .. like there was any other option than to unite!! People are happy with Eren’s actions and it’s ok because it’s a matter of perspective.. but being mad at Armin and Co and don’t want the alliance to try to stop it!! Are you kidding me!! This is all what Oniyan ´s speech was about!! How could you cheer for something you were subjected to for so long!! Jean, I love you boy!! Marco and his bones are so proud of the man you ve become 💕 Another dividing topic in the fandom: Mikasa ´s response to Louise!! Well I personally think she doesn’t owe a thing to a girl that stole her most loved item and who is an endoctrinated little girl in the Jaegerist cult .. Mikasa loves Eren, but she is not okey with his actions!! Reiner , I hope your nap was good buddy, because you have a mission , and a damn hard one that is!! And Annie girl, we don’t wake up people like that 😝 I loved your reaction / discussion and it’s sad to know there is only few episodes to come !! This show is addicting

@sasha I am totally ok with what you said!! It is insane that people want to impose their perspective to others!! I mean the whole freaking show is about FREEDOM, but some people don’t understand the meaning of it and are very agressive about it!! We have a great community here in the channel so I believe that will be avoided.. but some things I read in twitter the last weeks were in total opposition of what I believe the story is about!! Poor spirits!!!

Interesting conclusion about the content warning. My belief is that it's shown whenever our main cast of 'good guys' established in the first three seasons attempts (or succeeds) to kill or harm children. So to me, this warning had to do with Connie trying to feed Falco to his mom.

I personally loved the adaptation of the chapter and the emotions were heightened with the music and voice acting - as other people have commented on here and on the Discord this was a controversial chapter and a lot of people dislike it - I will just start from Connie - it is very much realistic for one of the bunch to have this “in the middle of the world ending” freak out and this deeply selfish moment - the episode really showed our beloved characters being on the verge - which again is realistic - at the end of the day, they’ve dealt with so much. King Jean really became one of my favourite characters after this episode specifically and I love how good he looks this season and just who he is and has been since the start truly blossomed in this current arc. The Titan Teeth Brushing Scene - I felt like Isayama went on a Roll from the Yelena face, to the Connie face and then ending it with the Annie face - the guy just though I’d just have fun with some crazy facial expression cos why the heck not. And Floch… he truly knows how to follow - as long as that matches his beliefs. He does fit the leader role, as well, but it is all so ridiculous but at the same time - the Paradisians have had enough over the past 8-9 years - wouldn’t anyone be happy with a similar outcome? No matter how wrong it is. That happiness however brings out the worst in people and this brings us to the conflicting situation with the two main sides - the newly formed Alliance and the Yeagerists - no one is really wrong and no one is really right either. The best of the 2nd half of part 2 is yet to come and as usual - an amazing reaction and discussion.

I feel I’m lucky that we have such a great community here and on YT, but I appreciate the warning; I can DEFINITELY see how this show would divide people at this point…no worries…my mind is pretty much aligned how I want, even though I definitely want to be open-minded to everyone’s thoughts. 😊 I’m pretty stubborn and hard to change my mind #tauruslife. I agree! I think the content warnings are when a main character or protagonist is about to harm someone else, like in 4 x 5 and Sasha shooting the Scout/Connie trying to feed Falco to his mom; that makes sense! Yes, “rooting for the main character” takes on a new context from here on out, eh? That is FASCINATING about that interview – I can DEFINITELY see that with Isayama and the Armin/Eren comparisons! And now that you point all of that out, it makes sense that Connie was probably going to back down in the end with Falco; he only got rushed when Armin jumped into the fray with Gabi. And Armin….but I like that idea of the “Erwin Gamble” in this moment! I hadn’t thought of that! That’s so true, though! I don’t see this as unnecessary; I think it’s a good turn around to tie back to Connie and where he’s at mentally in all this, because before this scene, he was just shown as having a major meltdown, and now we see the aftermath of it all. And YES! It makes only the most sense that Connie would be the one to say such a line…and to REINER of all people. I honestly never really cared for Louise’s character; she seemed to have his delusional following towards Mikasa without ever really knowing her…sort of a comparison to Floch’s somewhat devotion towards the “devil Eren” or at least what he represents. Yeah, it’s interesting, because Mikasa has been passive through a lot of this series, but to see her reactive, reaching for the scarf and showing such disdain for Louise’s viewpoint is almost refreshing. Mikasa doesn’t HAVE to be nice to anyone. Why should she? You be you, Mikasa! I still don’t quite understand WHY Eren made that comment to Louise about the scarf, but I don’t want to be spoiled, so I’ll just file it away for now, because yes…Eren pausing on Mikasa receiving it from him in the memories has not left my mind. 😊 I do love that it’s Mikasa’s way to hold onto the beauty within the cruel world and reject Eren’s monstrosity. But yeah, she’s not “relying on it”…at least, not now. I respect Mikasa for developing her identity in all this. AND OMG! I didn’t realize it but YES! She DOES look like Kenny! Levi will be having flashbacks seeing her like that! XD And yesssss, I actually really like the pie scene for the reasons you said! But I love that it reminded Connie of Sasha, possibly! :3 Oddly charming and a perfect display of Isayama’s bizarre sense of humor! Mappa was really feeding us with the blondes and how they looked this episode! And #couplegoals hahahahaa!! And it being Eren and Reiner that they did it to, as well…ahemmmm….And POOR REINER. He wakes up to all this development…at least he got to nap, haha!! And yessssss, back when y’all were joking about Pieck x Jean, I was thinking it was a fun crack ship (The Cart and the Horse), but NOW! I’m ready to join you all! I’m 100% on board with this ship! Marco x Jean is OTP, but Marco would have wanted our king to be happy, and Porco probably would want the same for Pieck, too. 😉 I still can’t believe this whole episode was ONE CHAPTER – the madness of it all! It’s definitely one of the “weaker” episodes of Part 2, but still one I really enjoyed! And now…onto Episode 25, eh? 😊 Thanks for the comment!

romaniablack

I think there are parts of King Fritz's plan that COULD have worked if he'd tweaked things -- I like the fact that he wanted to end being a part of the violence, and recognized that one person having all the power would be problematic...but then he uses that power to wipe his citizens' memories, which I've never been a fan of; I think if he'd done some things differently, it would have been better...but there's so much to dissect with his plan. At the end of the day, I think Niccolo hits the message Isayama wants us to know on the head: Yeah, dialogue and diplomacy is hard...but you just keep trying. Resist cruelty and furthering the cycle of violence -- it's an interesting twist on Eren's own words as the Attack Titan; even after you die, even in death...you keep trying for peace, even if it seems impossible. Or at least, that's just my thoughts, haha! Thank you so much for pointing out this with Karl Fritz and for the comment!

romaniablack

It's the craziest thing -- in the face of the apocalypse, Mappa manages to make everyone look amazing!! Hahaha!! I'll definitely talk about it in the recap, but yeah...what was our crew supposed to do? :) I can see why people wouldn't like this twist, because it's potentially going to lead them to fighting against Eren, but at this point, what can they do? Eren hasn't involved them in ANY of the plan, so they don't know what else to do. And morally, it aligns with the characters' views and where they've been in this series. And honestly, I am fine with Mikasa's response to Louise; girl is showing her identity and I'm here for it! Yeah, hope you liked that nap, Reiner! I don't think you'll get another one for a while after this...yeah, this episode is probably one of the weaker ones of the season, but I still really enjoyed it and get the "twist" with it! Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! I can't believe I'm almost caught up with you all!!!

romaniablack

I think that this episode addresses the characters and where they are in the most realistic way possible -- this episode was so fast-paced, but it involved brief moments of Isayama-style levity and humor, and resolved some of the madness leading up to this point. And Flochhhhh -- it's insane to see how the "worst" in people is brought out through this conflict and YES, what makes it all the more complex is no one is really right, and no one is really wrong. Just as Isayama likes it, eh? The best is yet to come?! I'm SOOOO excited! :D Thank you so much for the kind words and comment! I can't believe I'm almost caught up!

Sascha

Honestly I wrote this more out of frustration with the way that message is being conveyed than anything else. Like in berserk (I'll try not to spoil in case you haven't read it, though solid recommend in that case) the message is similar in a way. Guts is always fighting against his destiny and the hardships of his life, which seem just impossible every time. And though the way he goes about that is clumsy and somethings wrong, you can't help but feel hopeful when you're reading it. Because against those impossible odds he does fight, and at least survives, and sometimes even grows as a person as he tries again to hold on to and find happiness in the frail things he loves. I don't think AOT is really earning a message like that because of how passive most the characters are being, and when they do take action it doesn't further that message. For example in the last 3.5 years our main characters have, made an alliance at the behest of Zeke, agreed to an act of global terrorism so they can try to arm themselves adequately, assisted in an act of terrorism to get Eren, then dithered about for like a month until they very quickly lost a civil war resulting in a potential world genocide. They could have let Eren die in liberio. They could have fought a war of liberation to free Marley's conquered states. They could have done literally anything other than talking to themselves to prove that dialogue and diplomacy was what they wanted. Instead we see them step forward bit by hesitant bit to becoming and little North Korea. It isn't till the Yeagerists step a little bit further that suddenly everyone's like, "oh no we only wanted to threaten to do that if anyone had called our bluff we totally would have folded." I believe that Guts will fight against his cruel world and the cruelty in his self, because even when it's hard, or even when he's already failed, he still manages to get back up and try again. I don't believe that even Armin would strive for dialog when it's hard, because he's chosen violence and led and encouraged others to do the same when it shown that opportunity. Overall it just has me worried where the stories going. The message freedom at any cost might get you what you want, but destroy what you needed is classic tragedy, but doesn't seem like the focus of the story. The message if you clean up your own messes everyone who hates you will change their mind seems dishonest, and the story hasn't really setup any meaningful parties to have meaningful dialogs in the future. The best we have is being on slightly better terms with Margath. (PS srry if this isn't as clear as I'd like I'm sick and my heads a bit foggy.)

romaniablack

Oh no! I hope you get to feeling better! I always took Isayama's point with AOT is that in the face of a bad situation, there are MANY ways to view it and try to "solve" it -- none of them are perfect, none of them are 100% right or wrong, but 100% of them are HARD and involve sacrifice and resolve. Unlike other stories I've read, I can see how someone would gravitate to one person's plan or another -- it's all based on our own perspective and experience. That said, I just can't get on board and say, "Go Eren! Destroy the world!" When he himself seems to loathe that he feels no choice but to do it. I think that's the tragedy of Eren as a main character -- he doesn't want to do this, but sees it as the only way to "save his friends." I have my own personal grievances with everyone in this story and their actions, but Isayama I do think makes a point to say, "See how terrible this situation is? Don't you wish we hadn't have gotten to this point?" I think that's his message too -- I don't think Isayama WANTS to destroy the world and commit omnicide or says that it's a good thing, but presents us with characters that have limited time, resources, and feel they have few choices...and we see how they all act under these circumstances. It's insanity, but I like it. But, like I said, I won't judge anyone for their opinion of characters, and I'll try to be as open minded as I can, without letting my own opinions denote someone else's on the story. :) I think Isayama would want that, too. Thanks for the comment! :D

Sascha

Thx I'm starting to feel better now. I think we might be talking past each other a bit and it's probably my fault. I'm just anxious about where the story is going, and if the ending will be satisfying. usually stories do this through thematic contrast (like in breaking bad where dies alone with his family hating him) or alignment (in romances love conquers all in the end). I figured the story was going in the contrast direction where basically everyone, including our guys, dies, and maybe Eren realizes it wasn't worth it before getting killed too so we as the audience obtain a sort morbid catharsis. But it seems to be leaning the other way, that the main crew will stop Eren in an earnest thematic victory, and I don't think the story has been setup in a way to give a satisfying happyish ending. As far as I can see the only real paths to that are 1) talk Eren down, which would undermine his previous characterization 2) kill Eren and create peace with the world, which strikes me as unrealistic given what we know about the rest of the world 3)Kill Eren and get killed by the rest of the world, in a way this is kind of like the tragic option except the tragedy flaw would be saving the world undermining the main theme. Either way I don't mean to make you think I'm super opinionate on what the characters should do I'm just worried is all. Thx for answering the comments I'm srry to take so much of your time. Can't wait to watch your reaction to this last episode of part 2 I've heard it's going to be really good, suck we'll have to wait another year for the end though.

romaniablack

I definitely am concerned that the ending of this story is going to be a tragedy with all Isayama has set up, but I guess we'll find out, ehhhh? I think your options are definitely ones on the table! And thank you so much for the kind words!! I love hearing everyone's thoughts on these characters and the story, too! It's going to be CRAZY waiting a year for part 3, but I'm also REALLY excited to watch it in real time with you all! :)
