I have MISSED animated Given, and this OVA was so darn wholesome and sweet! 

Taking the moments that The Given Movie couldn't fit in, this OVA does a really good job of compiling all the wonderful manga moments, like Uenoyama and Hiiragi "officially" meeting and sweet Uenoyama x Mafuyu softness...I really hope they eventually do a second season!

Awww this was so precious omg I didn't know how much I've missed them especially Uenoyama😭🙌🏽This was so funny too. Mafuyu's Tsk had me dying!😂😂😂😂& Uenoyama having a coughing fit being introduced as Mafuyu's Boyfriend. Very tempted to check out the Manga but I'm going to try to hold off. I've missed them all so much & that intro😂Love the interaction with his friends talking about bugs lol It's been a while so I forgot there names😭 but I love them too. I love how realistic this show is about so many themes with Grief, Love, Identity & coming to terms with first love/communication. They don't paint these characters as perfect beings. They make mistakes, they're emotional & struggle but come out in the end as well as get suck back into that hole as well. It's an ongoing thing with life & I love that they show them that they are never alone when things do get hard. The growth they've all made was a light to see. I needed this in the movie so this OVA is everything!😂This was really nice & thank you to the translator!

Yesss, what I love about Given is that it's not-perfect characters dealing with not-perfect relationships that are very relatable, and the series still finds a way to make it sweet, emotional, powerful, etc. I just love it! All the little moments with sassy Mafuyu, Hiiragi, ane Uenoyama's panic (and Kaji's) were wonderful! If you didn't want spoilers past the first season, you could read volumes 1-5 of the manga -- Volumes 1-3 cover the first season and part of the movie, and Volumes 3-5 cover the movie and this OVA. :) But I don't blame you if you want to wait. This OVA was definitely great! Thanks for the kind words and comment and YES! Props to the translator!!

Sugar High after watching the OVA. I loved it. Considering how scatter these scenes where in the manga between all the Akihiko/Ugetsu/Haurki content they did a good job in creating flow between them. I LOVE the acapella version of Yoru ga Akeru (Dawn Breaks). I like how the were able to capture Mafuyu's feelings using the glimpses of the first concert, the trip to Mirai and of course the beach/ Yuki. The moment when Mafuyu was looking at Yuki's guitar and "dawn" broke bringing the light (life) back to Mafuyu was a nice touch. And Sassy Mafuyu is BEST Boy. Also, the cuddly Mafuyu is perfect.

I’m yet to catch up with the manga but this OVA was everything I wished it would be and more… so cute and Uenoyama panicking is as adorable as usual. I just feel like they put the work and care into this OVA and didn’t treat it just as a bonus feature to a manga volume and I love how good the adaptation has been in general. (having read volumes 1-3 so far ). I really hope we are getting a Season 2 soon as this was absolutely awesome and loved every second of it.

The OVA was directed by Oohasi Akiyo who also directed the BL movie, Umibe no Etranger (Stranger by the Shore), so I feel that like you said they treated the OVA content not just as bonus feature or just a side story. The production team put the time in to treat it with care.

Wasn't this super-cute?! I loved hearing Mafuyu sing acapella - his voice is so pure. Strangely, Uenoyama actually did say "older brother" (aniki) during that scene, so it's a mess up on the part of the studio/creators rather than the subs. It came across more obviously that Uenoyama definitely wants to do more than kissing with Mafuyu but he's too shy. He's very good at giving Mafuyu hugs though - so sweet. I think the main reason why Uenoyama is good for Mafuyu is that he will force Mafuyu to find his words. He asks and waits and is fairly patient. Yuki and Mafuyu might have understood each other on a different level, but Yuki wasn't always right and Mafuyu couldn't tell him - that is why they drifted apart even before the fight. Yuki assumed, Mafuyu kept quiet until too late. Uenoyama will eventually get to hear Mafuyu's truths and it will be worth the wait - I think. Yuki protected Mafuyu but Uenoyama pushes him gently to move forward. It will be a very good relationship once they get it sorted out. Hiragii is such a diva! I'm sure they're saving Hiragii's singing for the next arc, when they get to Yuki's song.

They really did a good job with all of these scenes, putting them together, and it was definitely a sugar rush!! Luckily, I have a big sweet tooth, haha! And yesssss, the imagery with Mafuyu and the guitar and throughout the Acapella version of Dawn Breaks was so well done!! And yesss, we need more of Mafuyu being able to be both his cuddly and sassy self!!

Ah! I completely forgot about the OVA and had to run to go watch it before watching your reaction! It was perfect, any new content for Given I will consume greedily. I'm gonna have to catch up with the manga, I haven't touched it in months and I also hope soon there'll be enough content for a season 2 given how popular this series is. I love these boys and I love the very true to life relationships, you know how some BL get and as a queer person myself I will take the good representation. It's also funny you mention how when Uenoyama talks you hear Ash but I've recently been rewatching Fruits Basket and all I hear is Kyo, especially when he's yelling haha

This was ADORABLE!!! Mafuyu singing acapella -- no wonder Uenoyama was swooning, hahaha! Ohhh WOW! That's so weird that the studio didn't catch that mess up with Uenoyama! @.@ Wow, how strange! And that's a good point; Uenoyama WANTS to do more, but isn't sure how to initiate/what to do -- it's so relatable. My hope in the future is that Mafuyu becomes the one to lead in the relationship (in that regard) since he has more experience there...but we shall see. He is a master at hugs, apparently, though! And that's a good point about Yuki vs. Mafuyu -- I really hope that Uenoyama will take the initiative and speak to Mafuyu, rather than withdraw himself as Yuki, did. I definitely have faith in them being able to sort out and communicate...it's just "when," haha! And Hiiragi has my heart, that diva! I'm sooooooo ready to hear Hiiragi sing, and for that song! :) :) Thanks for the comment!
