Oh, Yi City Arc -- y'all warned me it would be more painful than the donghua made it, and you all were RIGHT. T_T

The emotions of the VA, the score, the dialogue, the manhua -- these three versions were a tour de force of pain and even though I knew what was coming, I nearly teared up again! My dudes...this is my favorite set of chapters in the story so far, and for good reason! I can't wait to talk with you all about them!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

OMG I forgot this arc was so freaking long in audiodrama and manhua both. Considering we only have 1 chapter of manhua weekly it took forever! I missed WangXian so much while that lasted, haha. That "you all think you're so righteous and pure and yet I made you do my bidding so easily" thing explains so much about Xue Yang, And his association with Jins and Yao, as well. He had seen all the wicked and hard sides of this life before meeting Xingchen anew! Not that it excuses his egotistical views and his desire to drag the best man down with him into darkness and rest assured noone is better than himself as they tried to pretend. Also, I probably watched too much of criminal investigation procedurals so that his serial killer ways of recreating the "nice clean family house" to live with the dead there don't surprise me so much.

OMG this episode is so good! Thank you so much for your reaction! Totally enjoyed it. I feel like deep under the hubris and madness of Yang, he is also caught in his own sense of inferiority. He knows he's vicious, has done a lot of evil deeds, and definitely not on par with XingChen. So fooling XingChen to kill living people can also be understood as a way for Yang to debase XingChen and send him into abyss so that he could feel justified and entitled to stay with XingChen all along. Also, Yang's comment that the entire family are not a match for his single finger definitely reminds me of the later conversation between Yao and Nie MingJue, where Yao claims that his life is more worthy of others and gets kicked off by MingJue. I really like this self-contained Yi City arc in MDZS. I almost read it as a meta-narrative, a way for the author to offer parallels and her own annotations to the main story.

I cannot IMAGINE having to wait a chapter a week in the manhua during this! That would have been TORTUROUS! Wow! But seriously, I love how much content we've gotten in this part of the audio drama with Yi City...yes, that line explains XY so well -- he's such a complex character and I've really enjoyed how each iteration handles him! And yes, TOTAL serial killer vibes with him in these chapters. @_@

Thank you so much for the kind words!! I LOVED these chapters, as painful as they were. There is so much hubris and madness to Yang; he's so complicated, but I really love that about him as a character. He tries to "lower" XingChen down a peg to where he thinks he himself is at...and along the way develops all of these feelings and this relationship with him...it's good stuff, painful as it is. And YES! I thought after the fact about that parallel with Yao! It's soooo interesting! I definitely agree that it's MXTX's way of drawing parallels to our current characters, while also being able to insert this self-contained story into the current one. :)
