**Milllld Headphone Warning...Maybe?**

Kenny Ackermann, a man I've liked since Episode 1 of this season...we finally learn bits and pieces of his backstory, connection to Levi, relationship with Uri (who is FASCINATING), and tiny chunks of lore in this episode to get me rambling into my longest discussion of the series...

And we still have TWO episodes left this season...and the Beast Titan, Reiner, and Bertholdt are preparing for Eren! @_@ But where's Ymir? My nervousness isn't going anywhere as we gear up for the mid-season finale!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

Oh my god, they killed Kenny! 😲

Trung Ta

After this episode, it shows an interesting parallel of the Ackermans. They all have someone to follow/ be loyal to, for Mikasa's is Eren, Levi's is Erwin, and Kenny's is Uri. That someone saved them/ gave them purpose in life. They immediately became the loyal protector of that person, which also ties to the Ackerman being the king's personal guards.

My favorite episode and my favorite ship. Uri is just so...yeah he's a character alright in the best way possible. I think I like him because he's just so soft (kind of) and Kenny is just so...not?? But they get along and that makes me feel all warm inside. Kind of reminds me of the Past Christa and Ymir dynamic (Smol bean with a friend with scary dog energy). I find it sad that all this time Kenny was still following what he dreamed and such and just wanted to see what Uri was seeing. Big sad.

Jason T Frye

Ah yes, the grand reveal that monkey man is hot. On a serious note though, Kenny is seriously one of my favorite characters, it’s crazy how good of a character he is relative to the rather short amount of screentime he has.

Jason T Frye

But yeah, I believe when Uri says, “I believe in the miracle that happened back then,” he’s referring to his and Kenny’s friendship as the miracle he believes in, because under normal circumstances it shouldn’t have happened. Also, are you planning to watch the Lost Girls Ovas after season 3 part 1? This could be a good time since they don’t spoil anything past part 1, so it could be a good time to watch them.

I love how, for how drunk on power and violence Kenny was, all he wanted to do was understand his friend’s perspective and become less like trash he believed he was. He only saw himself as a violent trash of society but he was like everyone else, drunk on something and still cared for his friend and his little nephew he was a parent for (even if for a short time).

Doesn't Annie's story have small spoilers for Descent? I've only read the manga.

cw

Small note on Rod Reiss: While he was the head of the royal family after Grischa's sin, he didn't have the true power of the king, the founding titan. So the balance of power shifted to the council of the noble families (who had their own goals, mainly to maintain their power and riches). He couldn't even protect Alma against the council and Kenny. (sorry if this double posted, I hit the wrong key by mistake, and it doesn't show up for me) This chapter was one of Isayama's personal favorites because he got to tell a relatively self-contained story (another favorite like that is coming soon)

Jason T Frye

I guess, I didn’t really consider it a spoiler though since it was hinted at heavily in season 2 episode 9 as a mini flashback. She could of course wait until the end of season 3.

Julie

That’s what I thought he was talking about with “the miracle” too.

Julie

Uri was a more or less a pacifist, but he was still having people murdered to keep society from progressing and keep people from learning too much. Erwin’s dad must have been killed somewhere around the time Kenny was with Levi. A small amount of violence justified for the greater good. Unavoidable, like he said. Seems like that’s how this world has always functioned. Until now. I really wanted to hug Levi. Literally everyone he cares about dies. I love him so much. My mind refuses to integrate the information about him choking Historia. 😕

The truck

I don't have much to say about this episode(i mean its good but, I don't really have much worth talking) but the beast titan... oh man that dude in it is hot. (♡~♡)

romaniablack

I get a nervous feeling about the Beast Titan (probably because of his VA, but I love his VA), but dude is RIPPED! That's for sure! @_@

romaniablack

Ahhhhh, I was WAITING for this joke to appear the moment we were introduced to Kenny...I'm just sad it's this soon. T.T

romaniablack

I hadn't thought about that -- that makes sense that the "miracle" is him and Kenny becoming friends! Hmmmmm....interesting. And I did a poll on here, and the majority voted for me to watch all of the "Lost Girls" OVA's after Season 3 Part 2, so we'll just be having a GIANT Titan Week between Seasons 3 and 4! :)

romaniablack

Monkey Man is ripped, who knew?! But SERIOUSLY -- I'm so sad Kenny is dead because I really came to love his character, especially after this episode. T-T

romaniablack

Ahhhh, that makes sense with the council why we have the top four meeting to decide things, alongside "King" Fritz and Rod. Good point -- so, it was the council's decision, really, to kill Alma? That would make sense. I think most mangaka love getting to do little self-contained, stand alone stories within their manga (I think of Bleach -- some of Kubo's best work is in the flashback/side stories he did) and I can definitely tell he liked Kenny as a character! That has me excited -- obviously, don't spoil me on what's to come, but I'm excited! ^^

2021-11-24 18:43:11 The way they tie in the Royals & the Ackermans stories that motivate these characters is always so cool to see. That's why I love rewatching this show, I appreciate this scene the more I watch it. Especially the relationship between Uri & Kenny. Who would've thought things would get so deep lol we still gotta get to the Titan stuff😂(Even tho technically this is Titan stuff with Uri lol)That quote from Kenny tho omg they're all drunk on something to keep going😭literally every AOT Character. I love that comparison of Jean & Eren & how Violence brought them together whereas if it wasn't for the war they probably wouldn't be friends & had so much growth. I love that perspective, never thought of that😯 Rip Kenny your trash but you kinda don't stink as much now cuz your an Ackerman & Levi's Uncle😂😂😂 & poor Levi. Gotta love the scouts espcially Mikasa telling Historia to punch him. It cheered him up for a moment & HE SMILED!!😲😂 oh & THAT Cliffhanger hehe😏

It's not explicitly confirmed. The formation of the anti-personnel squad was Kenny''s initiative though, but signed off by the nobles who we know have issues with the survey corps (see also No Regrets). It's clear that the whole situation with Alma was very much not Rod's idea, who wanted to make them the new royal family. We do know that some in the council had issues with the existence of the illegitimate branch, like the Wallists. On the other hand, it might have been Kenny's plan as well, to remove competition for potential new hosts should the coordinate be retrieved. I personally think it was probably the council though.

romaniablack

That is SUCH a good observation -- they all have "their people" they're loyal to and that give them purpose...I love that! :) Seemingly "genetic," eh?

romaniablack

I LOVED this episode and seriously, Uri x Kenny -- soft king and hard knight (that doesn't realize he's a knight?!) -- LOVE IT. I can't wait until I'm caught up...AO3 will not be able to handle my searching. ALSO -- your comparison of Ymir x Historia with Kenny x Uri lives rent free in my mind forever, now. So that's fun. And yessss, Kenny just wanted to see what Uri did -- and didn't realize that he had compassion all this time. Dang.

romaniablack

YESSSSSS, this episode explained so much on his character and viewpoint of his world...but in the end, despite being so self-loathing, he cared for Levi and Uri...ugh...Isayama....why you do this to us!?

romaniablack

That's what I was wondering this episode, and the time of Erwin's dad's death would put it during Uri's reign. Which kind of plays to Historia's comment on "destructive pacifism." Interesting...but yeah...Levi SERIOUSLY needs a hug. I'm kind of in denial about him choking Historia; we'll just go with the anime version of him didn't, haha. But yeah, Levi's lost everyone nearly around him...which is sad.

romaniablack

SERIOUSLY?! Who would have thought the relationship between Uri and Kenny would be this deep and crazy, with Rod included?! And yesss, all of these characters in this series are "drunk on something to survive;" it's crazy. The ideas in this episode were insane and definitely worth thinking about -- but RIP Kenny, indeed! He may have thought he was trash, but he cared for Uri and Levi. and Levi smiling at the cadets? So sweet...glad Historia punched him back, though. Now we just have....the OTHER titan shifters to worry about. Fun times ahead, right?! @_@

romaniablack

Yesss, I'm glad to see that callback to No Regrets and the Anti-reconnaissance nobles. And that's a great point about the killing of Alma being part of Kenny's plan and backed by the Wallists/Nobles...woof....well, now I feel bad for Rod. Boo. Hahah, thanks for that perspective!

Toni simi

I feel like this hand bitting from Berthold would be too obvious in the manga. It would be much easier to catch. I love when shows give us scenes where someone of the royal family bows to a person who is seem as 'trash'. We had that in AkaYona too. I wish Ymir could see how gorgeous Historia looks. Rip Kenny He was only here for such a short time but I absolutely loved every second we got of him. He was such a refreshing character. "I'm not meant to be somebody's father" This was the line that made me cry. We finally got to see what is happening with Reiner and Berthold. Wish you a wonderful day!!

romaniablack

Yeah, that's a really good point about it being obvious in the manga; I hadn't thought of that! And YES! The connections to Yona with the bowing -- I love that! Seriously, I wish Ymir could have seen it, too! And RIP Kenny...I really loved his character so much! And ugh, THAT LINE -- he was still self-loathing until the end, even though we know he was so much more than he made himself out to be... T_T And yeah, FINALLY some of the "Warrior Crew!" **nervous chuckle** Thanks for the kind words and have a great day, too!
