Welp, here we are -- y'all warned me this show was going to make me reach for the tissues, and I took your words for granted...until this episode.

This simple, sweet story of a grieving father, coupled with Violet realizing the feelings she has for Gilbert, COUPLED again with KyoAni's gorgeous animation, the music, and then THAT END SCENE...I'm not sure I'm ready for the emotions from here on in...but I still want to talk about this episode with you all!

Oh yes, this is where it starts. I was fine through episode 6. Then I cried every episode from 7 onwards.

Oooof, going to need to have the tissues handy, then. I watched Episode 8 last night, and while I didn't "cry" necessarily, my soul was gutted. Just...PAIN. Wasn't expecting it to hit this hard so fast, but here we are!

This might be the other half of the reason why Episode 6 doesn't impress me much. Episode 7 is just a masterpiece. If i had to criticize anything it would be that it is efficient to the point of not giving it room to breath, every word has purpose, motives get set up and resolved, all in the span of not even half an hour. For some people that might be a bit too simplistic and feel "on the nose". Also the CGI when Violet "walks" on the lake (like the ship in Episode 1) sticks out, still beautiful, but imo the CG is quite obvious and if i wanted to be really nitpicky, i'd take fault with it. As it stands, i am not, so i don't :D And yeah, there are things i'd like to say, but i think i'll save them for a video in the future. Suffice to say, the episode made a bit of a different impression for me than it did for you, but i think you are having the intended impressions. i am VERY curious about your thoughts on next week's episode. Welcome to the second half :)

Seriously, Episode 7 and 8 are just standouts to me so far...I needed to watch Episode 8 last night for scheduling reasons with this week, but I think I'll wait until after Episode 8 is on here before recording episode 9, so I can talk with you all about it first. :) Episode 8 definitely was emotional and had so much going on...my head was spinning with all we got in one episode. So many dynamics, so much coming full circle already, and so many emotions and how we define "love." I find it so painful the set up of this idea of this father in Episode 7 coming to grips with his grief and daughter's death, and then we cut to Violet having to suddenly deal with the news that her major may be dead. UGH. I was okay with the CGI in this, but I mean, 90% of the animation is just gorgeous! I'll take it -- haha, and this show has set up stand alone plots being resolved (while carrying on the series-long thread of Violet and her "mission" to write the major a letter), so I was okay with it all being contained like this. And yeah....wasn't expecting the second half of the series to hit me like a freight train, but here we are. :)

Oh yes the second half of the season, the story is much much deeper than the first part. I really liked the part when she realize that she is "burning", added a lot of depth to the show. Definitely one of my top 3 episodes of the show, can't wait to see your reaction for the remaining episodes. And as always great reaction :)

romaniablack

Yessss, I have more on that burning metaphor to come, but sooo good! Ahhh, this episode has been my favorite so far, but I honestly cannot WAIT to see where it goes from here! Thank you so much for the kind words and comment!

Also, good news: Netflix just announced yesterday that the last movie will be available to stream starting October 13th, so you shouldn't have to wait after watching everything else. I would advise avoiding any trailers (or other promotional material), as they unfortunately contain obvious spoilers for anyone who's watched the series.

romaniablack

That is SO EXCITING!! I was thinking the other day how it was sad I only was able to watch one of the Violet movies when I get caught up, and here we are! :D I'm so excited that I'll get to see the series in full for this reaction! :) Yeah, definitely not watching the trailers, though, haha! Thanks for spreading the good news on here!

Yessss, the pain was just PALPABLE in this episode -- ugh, the animation, the soundtrack, the expressions...the emotionality -- it all was a tour de force this episode; I absolutely agree -- anime is able to just combine all of these elements together so well! :)
