A feature length Bungo Stray Dogs movie that looks this good?! YES, PLEASE!

We get more into Fyodor, our new antagonist, and more into our suicidal protagonist, Dazai. More Akutagawa and Atsushi team-ups, Kyouka proving she's at the top of my Zombie Survival Team, and of course...CHUUYA. Chuuya showing how badass he is...and fueling the Dazai x Chuuya ship, of course! That Snow White metaphor!

It's a much longer reaction than usual, but OH SO worth it! I hope you all enjoy!

Thanks for watching and for the support!

Yes, the OP for the movie is by Granrodeo, thus Chuuya's VA is singing it. In case you did not know, Chuuya's VA, Taniyama Kishou is also the VA for Jean from AOT.

Also, abilities manifesting themselves, made me think of the Zanpakuto arc in Bleach.

While I love this movie…it can be confusing 😂😂 I had to watch it a couple of times to fully understand all its little details. This movie is so important to Chuuya’s character imo. From the first scene we see him in, when he rages because of his friend’s deaths, the movie establishes how loyal Chuuya is. Which is so out of character for someone who is “bad”. And then, at the end of the movie, he risks his life for the city because he loves it. I just find it so interesting that a character so loyal and that loves the city so much is actually part of the “bad” guys. And YES! Our trio’s battle was kind of anticlimatic after Chuuya’s godly battle and its conclusion of punching Snow White…this anime can’t convince me that Atsushi’s ability is stronger than Chuuya’s…like..no 😂😂 And WELCOME to Soukoku aka Double Black aka Chuuya/Dazai ship 😂❤️❤️❤️ The movie was also crucial for Atsushi’s character. Not only do we get to learn more about his past but he finally accepts the tiger as a part of himself. Plus, the fact that he was so against killing Shibusawa not knowing that he had already killed him. And then, not only having to come with terms with that but accepting that sometimes killing IS the only/right option to save someone. This is not a Shounen where talking can save every villain…some villains have to be killed 🤷🏻‍♀️ And, at the end, Atsushi was the avenging angel that gave him salvation 😇 And I think Kyoka and Akutugawa understood that Atsushi wasn’t getting his ability back because they have also gone through the phase of not accepting their own abilities as parts of themselves, so they recognized Atsushi’s lack of acceptance. One of my favorite parts of this movie (besides Chuuya of course!) is how Ranpo figured everything out in 5 seconds and he just decided to secure his candy and not tell anyone what the fog truly meant. I just love him so much! 😂 And I ADORE that Rashomon is a badass lady because of course it is! #girlpower 💪🏻💅🏻 Mori and Elise! I was surprised that not even the president knew that Elise was part of Mori’s ability. And a second WELCOME for entering the Mori/Fukuzawa train 😂❤️ FYODOR!!! Seeing Fyodor and his ability being besties was CHILLING. That was the moment I was like: so THIS is our main villain for this anime. Before that, he seemed kind of ditzy but, like with Dazai, appearances can be deceiving…he turned up the terrifying factor real quick 😅 I cant wait for us to see more of him! Such a fascinating villain. I am ALWAYS fascinated by characters whose strenght’s are their brains which explains why I love this anime so much where most of the strongest characters are so strong because of how smart they are rather than their brawn. I AM SO READY FOR THE NEXT ARC! I just love it so much! Can’t wait to see your reaction! 💕💕💕 Have a great week! 😊❤️

I’ve always found the plot of this movie confusing, especially Dazai’s role. A lot of people do. But I think the most important thing about it is that we get some significant character development, and better understanding of the dynamics between some of the characters. Kyouka has her moment of accepting Demon Snow. It’s much more of a struggle for Atsushi, but he’s getting there. I find it interesting how we keep hearing that there’s something unique and special about Atsushi and his power. From Fitzgerald and now Shibuwasa too. But what that’s about is still very mysterious. Not much focus on it either. But I guess we’ll find out when we find out. They have to get to it at some point right? I’m so curious. Chuuya was pure awesomeness as always! I love how he and Dazai understand that the other will play out their part of the plan even when they don’t even tell each other that there is a plan. I love that he is compassionate when his temper isn’t getting the best of him, like you said. I love his flashy, pink motorcycle. I just love him period. ❤️ Thanks for the reaction. Looking forward to season 3!

Julie

I just recently found out about Chuuya and Jean. I can hear it now. Freaking awesome. Ranpo and Levi also have the same VA, but Ranpo sounds so different. Akutagawa’s VA is also in AOT, but he has almost no appearances until much later seasons.

Firstly, before I dive into rewatch, here's the story of Dragon Head conflict mentioned, as it went in the mobile game. It's game-only info and was a limited time event I was happy to play while I played. And so it ends just where DA starts! Also, DA has its own manga and novel, but it was made after the movie so the movie script is original. https://bsdmayoi.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon_Head/Story

Ability lore is too profound and all mixed up in this movie, I can't even! Too difficult to unravel it and I don't think it was created to be unraveled. More like, to watch and admire. Story of Ango and Tsujimura involoving Chuuya for a bit is that spin-off light novel for Gifted Special Division Ops I think... it also has a manga but the graphic style is so wildly different I never managed to get deeper into it. Ah, Chuuya, so stylish and dramatic and wild. I didn't care that much about White Trio mutual intrigues or Atsushi being all special over again - he's a shounen hero of course, but this... this was beautiful. Oh, and Kunikida being badass! OMG I totally forgot FukuMori were there as well XDD Oh yeah, they ARE a ship I'd love to sail on, as is ChuuAku, partially. And Elise-chan was precious, yeeah. I don't think Akutagawa or Kyouka were aware of Atsushi's past and yet they clearly can see he's not accepting his ability fully, not in the part where it can kill and kill very suddenly.

romaniablack

WuXian, I forget that Jean and Chuuya share a VA! Ahhh...Kishou is just so good in these roles! And this movie DEFINITELY had a "Bleach" vibe, against all odds, deeeefinitely the Zanpakuto arc as well! Good comparison! :P

romaniablack

Julie, agreed -- it's weird knowing Ranpo and Levi share a VA, because they sound so different! I CANNOT picture Levi with Ranpo's "whining" voice, hahaha! And that is innnnnnteresting about Akutagawa's VA eventually being in AOT! I'll be excited to get to that point (thanks for not spoiling me!).

romaniablack

I definitely agree this movie is more about the characters Atsushi and Kyouka "accepting" their abilities more -- and yes, still SO much mystery surrounding Atshushi's power! Hmmm...right? We have to get to it at some point, eh? Dazai remains a mystery as far as his motivation goes, but the fact that Chuuya rides in battling a demi-god dragon to save his Snow White? ALL FOR IT. And the flashy pink motorcycle is literally *chef's kiss* Chuuya really won me over this movie, FOR SURE. Thank you for the kind words! I'm soooo ready to get into Season 3!

2021-10-19 03:21:20 Yes, Kishow (chuuya seiyuu) is singing the OP. I just remembered that the seiyuu's from Oda (junichi suwabe) Ango (fukuyama jun) and Dazai (mamoru miyano) once had like a little event in the Lupin Bar. Here is the link if you're interested in it, I don't think it has subs. http://www.bilibili.com/video/BV14x41127GY?share_medium=android&share_source=more&bbid=XY7668A7AAE811A6761B936536460D677F8DA&ts=1631006675031 I find it really sweet that Akutagawa actually cares for Kyouka. It warms my heart. "Will you kill me? I wouldn't mind" Ango gets so much shit and I feel so sad that it seems like he wants to die too. From what we've seen so far, Ango is in my opinion one of the most tragic characters. He has to give up so much because of his job and gets hate from every direction. The Chuuya waking Dazai up scene. If that wasn't love right there. XD Also Akutagawa and Chuuya bonding? Love to see it. I love the parallel between the scene at the grave and the end of the movie between Dazai and Atsushi. I liked the Chuuya fight definitely better than the end fight. There are some things that I don't understand but it's still a good movie. XD Wish you a wonderful day!!

I honestly love that about this series, that the "villains" -- aka Port Mafia -- do nefarious deeds, but at the end of the day, still love their hometown. And how can you NOT root for Chuuya! I'm right there with you -- unless Atsushi is planning to become a literal godlike tiger, and maybe he is, I refuse to believe he's stronger than Chuuya! Hahahaha!! And y'all...I'm a sucker for a romance and a sucker for a fairy tale, and this movie is giving me Dazai as Snow White and Chuuya as the prince to come save him? Yes. Please. I come to your Soukoku fandom with open arms, haha!! Ahhh, and YES, this was definitely Atsushi character growth: The Movie -- I thought it was chilling when he realized he'd already killed Tatsuhiko and was just repeating that phrase over and over again...creepy! But yeah, the fact that this series is setting up that the power of talk no jutsu won't always work...hmm...and for a kind-hearted saint like Atsushi to realize that...it's good stuff. He definitely was the angel in the end! Meaning Fyodor is the demon, right? It makes sense why Kyouka and Akutagawa reacted like that, now...also, Rashomon being feminine is sooo intriguing....hmmm... Also, Fyodor is just SCARY. I agree about his ability and him being besties -- yeah, they are clearly setting him up as the final boss of the series (at least the anime) and I'm SO excited to see more of him! And yes, it looks like Dazai and him are going to be playing a fun chess game in season 3. Also, I LOVE that Ranpo figured it all out and peaced out -- I honestly forgot he WASN'T gifted at the start of this movie! I was so convinced, hahaha! And yessss, I am ALL ABOARD the Mori/Fukuzawa train now! *choo choo* I need more of them! And getting confirmation of Elise as part of Mori's ability was *chef's kiss* Thank you so much for the comment and kind words! I hope you have a great week, too, and I'm sooooo ready for season 3! :D

romaniablack

Thank you for this! I definitely will talk about the Dragon Head conflict and mobile game animations when I start on Season 3! :D :D I appreciate the info -- anything for more Oda content! ;)

romaniablack

Oooh, I would like to read that light novel, because I love some Chuuya and Ango content! And Tsujimura seems like the Gifted Ops version of Haguchi, haha! But she seems cool! Yeah, Dazai looks better in beige or black than white! :P And yeah, Atsushi definitely fits the mold of the stereotypical Shonen protagonist in this movie (I still love him and appreciate Kyouka and Akutagawa's contribution to him and his conflict with his ability), but man, I loved Chuuya in this movie! It was really his to shine in, and Kunikida's as well! Taking a bullet and still fighting with his notebook! :3 And we're all on the MoriFuku train on this Patreon? Good to know! :D :D Get me a ticket onto that ship! :D Thanks for the comments!

romaniablack

I gained so much more love for Chuuya in this movie: His relationship with Ango, with Akutagawa (both with Dazai to worry about, hahaha), and his battle with Tatsuhiko was great! Seeing Akutagawa caring for Kyouka? Is his heart growing three sizes? Could it be?! :P I DO feel bad for Ango -- you know he feels guilt for Oda's death, as Dazai rubs in, and has one of the worst jobs -- playing the double agent, betraying others for a living -- I feel for him in this series! And Chuuya and Dazai and the Snow White analogy...I just...*fangirls* And yes, tying back the opening scene to the ending with Atsushi and Dazai -- I definitely want to go back and read the Dead Apple light novel/manga at some point, and I am for sure going to watch that event at the Lupin bar!! Thank you for that link! :D :D I can't wait to watch it tonight when I get home from work! Have a wonderful day as well and thank you for the kind words and comment!

Melanie Marie

Only 12 more weeks and then you get to join our torturous wait 😭😭😭

romaniablack

Ahhhh, I'm not ready!! Even though 12 weeks seems like SO long! I've debated reading the manga on here to catch up...but I'm not 100% tied down to it, yet. I'll probably poll y'all (because I'm usually indecisive like that, haha!).
