Well, well, show...it only took you 37 episodes before you drew tears from me. But here we are.

This set of episodes was an emotional ROLLER COASTER -- from the excitement of Sawamura pitching (and pitching WELL) to the hilarity of the Todoroki duo, to the utter shattering of SOULS as Raichi proves you can pitch perfect...but he's still going to knock it out of the park.

This series is getting SO GOOD and I can't wait to see how Kawakami and Tanba handle Yakushi's batters...now, someone just give our boy Sawamura a hug! T-T

Thank you for watching with me and for the kind words and support!

Sawamura was crushed but I loved the lesson he got from the situation. Like the Coach said, the fact that he gave up a home-run and two runs is not as disappointing as how he handled the situation afterwards. Right now he is crushed, but this will help him be better pitcher in the future. And of course it makes sense that he wouldn’t know how to handle the situation. It’s hard to forget that he and Furuya are just first years competing in a VERY competitive tournament. They are babies still! I was surprised to see tears though! You are often a tough nut to crack 😂😂 I am happy to see you are connecting with these characters and anime enough to do so though 😇💕 As for Sanada, in a previous episode, while they were watching videos of old games of Yakushi, Seido noticed that Sanada was the true ace despite not having the number one. I cant remember if they said the reason why yet and I don’t want to spoil you so, if they don’t say again, I’ll wait to tell after the match is over :)

Yessss, our baby had his first major blow in the tournament -- I'm glad that Chris and the coach told him to take it as a learning experience. And RIGHT?! I think seeing our boy be so forlorn and not his usual self...I didn't expect to get so emotional this soon with this show...I'm slipping, clearly! Hahaha! And ooohhh!! Thank you for not spoiling me! I'm excited to see what happens with the rest of the match and to find out!!

I thought I wasn't going to have much to say since we're mid-game, but what a roller-coaster! Starting with Raichi; he really is batter talent given human form. And I think that the intimidation caused by that talent makes Sawamura simultaneously nervous and competitive to the point he forgets everything - the game, Chris' training, Miyuki's call (for which he's rightfully angry) - and tries to duel Raichi like he did with Azuma in the first episode. At that moment, the team didn't exist for him. Making such a team player so single-mindedly competitive, and ultimately winning the battle between pitcher and batter, makes Raichi such a compelling antagonist and rival. And poor Sawamura afterwards. Right after when he's been acknowledged by the people he admires, and Kataoka, Chris and even Miyuki (like, for the first time since Episode 2?) say and/or do things to boost his confidence. Right after being trusted with a fourth inning and a second round against the top of Yakushi's lineup. I mentioned a couple of weeks back about the glow in Sawamura's eyes. Seeing it disappear and replaced by that dull, almost lifeless look is so painful, especially since it was through no fault of his own. I can understand why he's unresponsive to the rest of the team after that; to have his confidence built-up and then crushed must be awful. I'm really glad that Kataoka says something to lift Sawamura's spirits, even if it only somewhat works, which also acts as a lesson to help him accept that - no matter how good he gets - there are times he's still going to allow a hit. Of course, in my opinion, it would have been better to switch Sawamura when originally planned and let Raichi hit off Kawakami. I think it would have hurt Kawakami less since everyone expects Raichi to hit successfully. It saves a first-years' confidence and doesn't dent a second-years'. And speaking of bad calls, we get to the real surprise of this set: Miyuki is not infallible! I think that's a sign of the apocalypse! I mean, he misreads situations several times. First, he misreads Sanada's pitching, then he underestimates Raichi despite seeing his explosiveness first-hand. And finally he misreads Sawamura's condition after Raichi's home run. Maybe it wouldn't have mattered, but maybe speaking to Sawamura seriously instead of teasingly would have kept Sawamura from crumbling that badly. That last one just screams lack of interpersonal skills. But I still like him, darn it. The last star of this set, Sanada, can't even be spoken about in any depth without spoilers, so we'll just have to hold off on him until sometime in the future.

Yesssss, I love your line about Raichi making Sawamura forget all of his training -- he was so hyper-focused with battling Raichi...THIS, this is the rivalry I've been waiting for in this series, and I'm soooooo excited for it! I think that's what got me in this episode: that light dying from Sawamura's eyes, and then for the first time, everyone is kind to him...and that "kindness is cruel," indeed, as Coach Todoroki teases. I loved that the coach told him it was his strongest pitch that was hit, and reminds him he is only a first-year and has a long way to go! But that's what the series is all about, eh? Following our sunshine boy on his journey to become the ace! And YES! Miyuki was a surprising character in this set of episodes -- from getting very mad at Sawamura to making mistakes and not realizing the toll the home run really took...I agree, I hope that maybe Miyuki can see that he may need to communicate with Sawamura a little differently than he has others on the team. But you're right -- he's a frustrating character at times, but darn is he CHARMING. ^^ And Ooooooooohhhhh! The Sanada hype is REAL!!! I can't wait to learn more about him!

So they consider Sanada to be the true ace of Yakushi even though he doesn't have the number 1. It's more of a mental thing with that one. Mentally he leads the team in a way the ace should but that's why Chris was talking about how weird it was that he's not the ace. It's not an animation error don't worry haha. I adore Sanada. He's so fun and hype to watch and the way he handles himself on the mound and with his teammates is like no other. Speaking of Attack on Titan voice actors, young Mei Narumiya is also voices by an AOT character VA lol. Mei is also voiced by the same VA as Eren from AOT, Todoroki from MHA and Kenma from Haikyuu. All those are such iconic roles but every time I hear them, I think of Narumiya haha. Very different from Erens usual lines. I'm glad you understood why that hit affected Sawamura so much. Seeing the sunshine characters break down is always really hard, especially since he did try to make it together. Even with his eye bags he was trying to force a smile and he did try to get past the homerun it was just such an unlucky series of events that even after the homerun, a blooper hit to the field that could've been caught, hit the ground. He was so excited by being acknowledged by the coach that the thought that he let him down just crushed him. Although Miyuki was right in it being a wrong call, Sawamura isn't the type to blame anyone else for that kind of stuff. As you said in the episode, Raichi was waiting for that exact pitch so it was almost a sure thing that it would be hit. If Miyuki had realized that he was waiting for it, another call might've done better but hindsight is 20/20 lol and it's absolutely better for him that he experiences this now and can learn from it for the future. I feel like Sawamura would be a tough nut to comfort lol. You don't want to keep poking at him as you usually do because it comes across harshly but them being so nice was not something he's used to so of course he would take it as a pity thing. Poor boy.

Agreed. There's no limit on the good things I want to say about Raichi. Part of me wishes he was at Seido so that we could see him all the time, but he really couldn't be a good rival against Sawamura in that case... He actually is the hero of his own story though; the author's debut manga had Raichi as the main character, although his personality is different and it has nothing to do with DnA other than being about baseball. We've known from the beginning that he's softer than he looks, but I wonder if Kataoka doesn't subtly favor Sawamura a bit. Even at 3 episodes a week, it's been a while, but I don't remember him offering that kind of support to others when they were down. But I'm happy that he did. As for Miyuki, sometimes you just hate to love him. He's almost never serious. He's sly and manipulative. His teasing can border on bullying. And he mostly keeps positive thoughts on people to himself. Like you say, frustrating but charming. And he definitely needs to find another way of communicating with Sawamura (and everyone else, tbh...).

Oh wow, that is crazy about Raichi being the MC -- I can definitely see it, but I'm glad it's Sawamura in the end! :) And that's an interesting point about Kataoka -- it's definitely the first time I can remember him offering support like that. I've always thought that Kataoka maybe sees some of himself in Sawamura? Maybe he's faced a similar situation, so he could relate? I really hope we find out more about him later on... And yes, Miyuki is..."slick?" Not slimy, per say, but definitely hard to approach or get a handle on! I'm curious to see how his character develops in the series, or rather how everyone else develops around him. At least Tanba's offering Furuya advice, haha!

I'm so excited to get into Sanada more in future episodes! Everyone seems to have a high view of him, and it's Levi's VA, so I mean...how could we not?! :P That is so awesome about Mei being voiced by Eren's VA! I didn't notice it the first time we met him, so I'll have to keep an "ear out" to hear his voice when we see him again (and I'm sure we will hahaha)! Thank you for that info! And yesss, seeing our sunshine boy crumble was heartbreaking! Everything was going his way, only for Raichi to shatter it to pieces. And yeah, hindsight -- it was a perfect pitch; they're just literally dealing with a "monster" of a batter! And you bring up a good point -- Sawamura almost seems like the type that needs to be smacked and told to move forward, rather than "comforted" like he was in this episode. His teammates being so nice was so out of the norm, of course it'd make him feel worse. I feel the coach sort of went for the "move forward" move, but it'll be interesting seeing how his mental state is in future episodes! Thanks for the comment!
