It's the penultimate episode of the season, if you can believe it, and our boys Rei and Nagisa have grown from shy, enthusiastic first years to mature third years competing for a spot at Nationals! I can't believe the growth of our butterfly boy and peppy penguin! ^^

But they're not the only ones who've grown! Our sweet Nitori has gone from shy Rin-follower to the Captain of Samezuka...and even Haru and Rin show once more how they've changed over the course of three seasons! 

This episode had so many emotional beats, but I know I'm NOT ready for next episode! Not at all. **preps tissues**

The little distance is really realistic and nicely done. It felt a bit sad but it also makes perfectly sense. I think the reason why Shizuru called Makoto the ' Evil king-senpai' is because he played that role in the video they made for the swim club. The dynamics and interactions this episode were all so wonderful. The phone call between Ryuji and Mikhail reminds me a lot of Haru and Kisumi. XD Ryuji's soft smile is everything. How much I love the change from Haru being a prodigy to just a good swimmer. It shows how you can be one of the best in your hometown but still has a lot to learn when you go out into the world. It's just so good. Isuzu has big bisexual energy this episode. XD Happy Rin and Haru interactions are the best. We needed that for so long. Haru in middle school: 'Why do we have to run again?' Haru in College: 'Let's run.' XD The way they teased Asahi's and Rei's interaction this episode was so frustrating. XD but luckily we got it and it was so precious. How happy Rei was that Asahi still swims and how proud Asahi was. I can't with them. Nagisa and Rei both came so far. And Aii too. Seeing all of them together again makes me so happy. All the soft looks this episode. My heart can't take the pureness. Wish you a wonderful day!!

This episode was just so PURE! I really couldn't handle all of these moments!! That makes a LOT of sense about Shizuru calling Haru and Mako based off the film! :P And I thought the EXACT same thing about Ryuuji stopping Mikhail with his hand and Haru slapping Kisumi away! Ahahaha! Ryuuji being soft is too much, though! @.@ I've finally found a Mikoshiba I could ship Gou with! :P And yesssss, seeing how far Rin and Haru have come, to being friends and invested in their kouhai's races? You love to see it! I'm SO happy we got Rei and Asahi together, FINALLY. Rei and Nagisa have grown up soooo much, it's unreal. And we still have a movie and one more episode to go! *sniffles* Thank you for the kind words and I hope you have a great day, too!

2021-10-19 03:31:41 Favorite part of this episode for me, Rin and Haru running to get to their friends. So much growth since S1! ❤️ Thank god they showed up because Rei and Nitori admire them so much and, in a way, those two are the main inspiration that has gotten them to nationals. I just know them showing up meant the world to them. And yes! the fact that Haru has suddenly stopped being the “natural” swimmer and now has to work hard to win is MINDBLOWING but so realistic. It happens all the time in real life, when a genius suddenly finds themselves normal among other geniuses. And such a great plot point for the show. They have done an amazing job with Haru’s character throughout the seasons/movies. Each of his struggles, actions and growth has felt very realistic and natural. Speaking of growth, Rei and Nitori’s swimming has grown SO much! I would have never thought they would be getting first place in heats when the show started. Rei was a newbie and Nitori couldn’t even get in the relay team. And now, here they are winning races at the national level. So proud 😍🥲 The Nagisa and Rei montage was INCREDIBLE! They are definitively in the running for best friendship(?) in the anime. Such a wholesome relationship. 💕💕 The lack of angst makes it so unique 😂😂 We have met baseball Todoroki aka Furuya in DNA. And now, here are swimming Eraser & Mic aka Azuma and Mikhail 😂😂 They are such a mood! I love them 💕💕 I am ALSO in denial! I would have watched One Piece amount of episodes of Free! I just love this anime so much. ❤️❤️ Definitively gonna spiral when it’s over 😭💔

2021-10-19 03:31:41 There has been SO much growth for Haru in this series, and I agree that it all kind of culminates in this episode with him and Rin running to the race -- can you imagine in Season 1, where Haru was struggling to even cheer for his teammates, that he'd go this far? :3 And Haru was always thinking he'd become "normal" -- and he finally HAS. But rather than it being this ominous, defeating moment, instead it has spurned him to work harder -- to get more competitive and try to be at the same level as the Albert's and others! I'm sooooo happy they've taken this angle with the show! It's VERY realistic! And our boys Rei and Nitori - the ones who struggled so much in season one - growing so much and winning their races! It just makes my heart soar! :) And the Nagisa and Rei montage definitely hit hard in the feels! Their friendship is just so wholesome and pure. #canon And hahahahaha, I feel Eraser and Mic are best friends without the antagonism -- Mikhail and Ryuuji is kind of like Kisumi and Haru! Haha, but if it were actually shippable! :P I love their dynamic so much, and Ryuuji's grown on me steadily over the course of this season! And YES! Can we get, you know, two or three more seasons? OVA's? Because one episode, recap movie, and two full-length movies is NOT ENOUGH Free! content! <3

OMG I never made the connection of Haru wanting to be normal and now being so! It’s poetic that it isn’t until he finds himself normal that his true competitive spirit surges up. Makes sense! It’s hard to be competitive when you think you’ll always win.
