Well. Well, now. That. That was PAINFUL.

The fates of Ning, Qing, Yanli -- all called into question with EVEN MORE QUESTIONS surfacing this episode! And WuXian -- it's NOT just been him with the resentful energy throughout this -- in the words of Yoda, "There is another" using demonic arts and framing our chaotic gremlin.

Oh my God: the animation, the music, the pacing -- this entire episode was insanity!

And now, FINALLY, WuXian knows that Wangji knows he's in Mo Xuanyu's body...just in time for the season finale! **nervous chuckle**

Thanks for watching the full length reaction and for the support!

Congrats on getting Su She's identity! He's really forgettable among the great heroes of his generation and that's kinda foundation stone of his character lol. Well, now you know how even the Lan clan people can be very sketchy! Oh God I'm never ready for all the deaths even if I remember all the facts and rewatch different versions with different youtubers. That said... WWX in the Nightless city was totally badass. The people gathered there deserved his wrath and didn't deserve his words. Even without considering the setup and blue fires and all that extra dark energy donghua gave him at this moment, it's totally justified he could lose control when attacked and affected by Yanli's death as well. That's why I love him so much, he's horribly human in his great deeds and great mistakes. And the fact he has to face them again and again. Remember, he didn't die at the Nightless city. It was the Burial mounds. So he had to live even after that meltdown, somehow. I don't like the assumption that someone betrayed Wei Ying and took his blood to break open the seal... no idea, really, that's original, too! Ahh, the chance to baby Wei Ying and to take care of him openly! To receive a present from him, to talk over all the things hidden before! Nice reprieve from the horrors of the past. I also think Wen Ning's flashback with three faceless men happens some time after the Nightless city. Jin clan leader asks, how is the process going, so they've been at it for a while, some things involving Wen Ning's captured body and consciousness. Talismans are definitely a cultivator thing, Wei Ying just changed purpose of one of them. They are, however, considered a less noble and more easy way of cultivation than sword training, closer to clever tricks than to an honest fight.

2021-10-19 03:38:31 Pain, that is what this episode is all about. There is more too WWX NOT carrying a sword. Hopefully, the Donghua will explain since it is an important part of the story line. Wen Ning, did not "break out" of the seals, someone released him to add to he chaos that was being created. I am sure the "mastermind" knew WWX would show up for the execution and set their plan in motion to continue to discredit WWX. I've said it before WWX has some of the BEST entrances in to a scene ever and in a way so damn sexy too. And yes it is finally revealed that Wangji has known that WWX is in Mo Xuan Yu's body. Granted the boy has known since episode 2, but WWX did not know. WWX takes it in stride and thinks nothing it. Wonder why the animators put RED candles in the scene with LWJ & WWX? What does red symbolize? Lan Wangji never lost his faith in WWX, while so many others did. Good catch on the blue flames. What color is LWJ's cultivation? Does each clan have different colored cultivation? That might answer some of your questions. FYI, there is an after credit scene in episode 8, pay attention.

LWJ was spending his time investigating the incidents in WWX's life, plus he was looking for any potential leads of WWX returning.

So happy, or sad, to rewatch this episode with you! Your reaction was GREAT! Remember that we got to see the death of WuXian at the very beginning of the first episode of Season 1? although through an unreliable narrator... It's interesting to see if they would show his death scene from his own perspective in the next episode. Regarding the solemn XiChen in this episode, I mean he has become the Lan clan leader after his father died, and much like Jiang Cheng, he has to bear the weight that come with this position. He has to handle the "diplomatic" relationships with other clans after the demise of the Wen clan and to basically rebuild the devastated Lan clan. He has a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders too. As for Su She, he not only holds grudges against WuXian, Jiang Cheng and Jin ZiXuan. In S1E8, when the poor girl Mian Mian was hiding behind WangJi and ZiXuan, Su She tried to pull her out and offer her to Wen Chao. Seeing him doing that, WangJi spared no effort throwing Su She to the ground for doing such despicable thing as a Lan clan member. Finally, the waiting time!!! You are so right. When the second season ended in 2019, I just couldn't wait two years for the third season... so I read the novel, listened to the audio drama, watched the Untamed, and now I'm still here lol. Sorry for the long comment, and I look forward to your reaction next week!

goldmund

Also another quick question: after the second season ends next week, what do you plan to do on Monday? Are you going to continue reacting to MDZS-related stuff? cuz that would be great!

wes

Su She also appeared before 9th episode — in the 4th one, as a Lan disciple, caught in a cross-fire with water ghouls. Su She wasn’t skilled enough to fight with demons, so he almost drowned. Wuxian actually tried to safe his life that day, remember? Unconscious Su She was the white-robed man Wuxian carried, while trying to slip away from the Waterborne Abyss. So, we can’t know the exact reason why Su She wanted to hurt him. Wuxian was on a good terms with Su She all along. What we can do is only guess)) Don’t rely fully on these two seasons. There’s still a couple of new characters we’ll encounter in the future, who are even more suspicious than Meng Yao and Nie Huaisang! Yanli was invited, because this gathering was supposed to be an honorable ceremony. She is a wife to Jin Guangshan’s deceased son, so of course her presence is required. I’m completely sure that Yanli didn’t really want to attend it, but etiquette is a very important thing in the cultivation world, especially among clans as pompous as the Jin sect. The returned bell could also be a symbol of Wuxian’s grief and loss, like, he doesn’t acknowledge himself worthy of being a Jiang anymore. I’ve seen one great art with the similar message on Twitter once, where Wuxian wore both Jade token and Jiang clarity bell on his waist, but it’s a spoiler art, so I can’t send it to you for now, lol. Wangji is a BIG tease deep down inside. He will never tell Wuxian, how he recognized him. In the end Wei Ying would have to learn it himself. :D Wangji traveled a lot for the past thirteen years, helping common people, and hoping to find any traces of Wuxian’s soul. That’s actually the reason why Jiang Cheng addressed Wangji as “being wherever the chaos is” in the second episode of season one. In the beginning, you mentioned the pacing of the donghua and how you expected the flashback to end after season one. I’ll let you know that the book is even more chaotic than that, lmao. If I remember correctly, in the novel we get to the Wen Chao’s death almost in the middle of the story, while the events of second season are happening within the first 10 chapters. Be prepared, haha. Thank you for reaction.

Dunno2000

And here is what I'm not fond of about this adaptation - that what happened at Nightless City wasn't Wuxian's fault. In the book, he really did just lose control and accidentally kill thousands of people, including his shijie. Same as the bridge - it was just his fault for misjudging his capability and he killed those hundreds of cultivators. I'm just not a fan of how the donghua takes all the blame off of Wuxian because I find how Wuxian deals with the fact that it really was his fault more interesting than him knowing that there's someone else behind all the mistakes he made.

romaniablack

The fact that Wangji has been trying to prove WuXian's innocence this whole time, not knowing if he was ever coming back...I just....**SIGH**

romaniablack

Ahhh, I am SO glad there's an after credits scene! Yay!! And yeah....isn't the Lan Clan blue? So could it be SuShe? Hmmm...And red candles? Like a wedding? Like Love? Like I need to be reading the novel at this point? Hahahaha! I'm intrigued to learn more about WuXian and the business of him not carrying a sword, and that is intriguing (and makes more sense) about the seals with Ning! Ahhh...still so many questions, and only one episode left until season 3! @_@

romaniablack

That table flipping emoji is EVERYTHING and ALL OF MY FEELINGS after this episode! hahahaha!

2021-10-19 03:38:32 OH yeah, that whole animation with WuXian was SO badass, but so sad at the same time -- there was definitely an air of melancholy with him in this entrance. And the fact that it was still around another year before he died after that? SO SAD! :( The idea that someone has been using his blood is also veryyyyy suspicious! And your note about Ning and the "processes being worked on..." Hmmm...more questions! And we only have one episode left of the season?? I can't!! >.<

Thank you for the kind words!! This episode was SOMETHING! And ahhh, I had forgotten we did get a peek of his death at the start of the show...I wonder if we'll get it from his perspective; that would be cool! It is sad to think that XiChen is suffering the same as Cheng in that regard to losing a family member and becoming head of the clan...I hadn't thought of it that way; that's so sad. T_T And yeaaaaahhhh..Su She has a lot of people with grudges against him...hmmmm....much to consider. And we're on episode 8 next week! AHHH!!

romaniablack

Ohhh, I still have LOTS with Mo Dao Zu Shi planned while we wait for Season 3 -- I want to watch MDZS Q, Do reviews of the Novel and Audio Drama as I get through it, and start The Untamed...so....LOTS still to go! Hahaha!

romaniablack

Oooohhh, that IS interesting! I'll be excited to see the differences in the novel to this...hmmm...interesting to note! Thanks!

romaniablack

OOOH, that is a great comment about SuShe in both episode 4 and 9! @_@ I didn't realize that! And the fact that there are STILL more new characters to introduce? I mean, I'm excited...but also terribly nervous! And yes, in hindsight, that makes a lot of sense why Yanli was there...I just hate it! T_T And ahhhhh, I can't wait until I can view all of the fan art without being spoiled, but that makes a lot of sense with the bell, too. And WANGJI IS A BIG OL' TEASE! Seriously! I'm so glad that they at least know that each other knows...ahhh...now how long will it take until others find out? Hmm? I've heard the novel gets a bit out of order than the donghua, so I wanted to make sure I've seen both seasons fully before starting the novel, just in case! Thanks for the kind words!!

I think it's been another 3 months before Wuxian's death in the final version of the book, but still very long for his horrific mental state. It was 3 years in the initial version but then MXTX changed it which incurred some mismatching with Jin Ling's age so it's not that easy to do timeline math now.

goldmund

Fortunately XiChen still has WangJi and uncle QiRen to help him around, whereas for Cheng...

romaniablack

That's so true! I feel really bad for Cheng, because throughout all these years, he's been alone raising Ling. :(

romaniablack

Ahhh, yeah, that's still a long time! I can see why she did that to match the timeline better! Still, our poor chaotic gremlin! :(
