Ooooh, this episode may be a full-fledged Shonen drag out fight between Atsushi and Akutagawa, but there's more lurking under the surface, and it has to do with a cloak-wearing Tsundere and his relationship with our resident ability-negating suicidal agent!

I'm SO intrigued after this episode, ESPECIALLY that ending with a certain mysterious new character entering the fray...

I hope you enjoy watching with me and thanks for the support!

Last week I forgot to mention it but the opening is from granrodeo, which Kishow (Chuuya's seiyuu) is the singer of. The little tease of Chuuyas and Dazais relationship. Fitzgerald is a character I really like. In this episode I really started to be more interested in Akutagawa. From what we've seen it makes sense why he is how he is and why he sees the things the way he does. Also how he says/does similar things to Kyouka, that Dazai did to him. He doesn't got teached otherwise. Which,of course, doesn't justify what he does. The parallels between Atsushi and Akutagawa are wonderful. I like that Atsushi is this what could've been Akutagawa if he would have met Dazai under other circumstances. And the other way around, Atsushi also could have turned out like Akutagawa. I'm weak when shows are doing this. XD Wish you a wonderful day!!

Yes, the dynamic between Dazai and Chuuya is interesting. Reminder the singer for the OP is the VA for Chuuya. Dazai mentoring both Atsushi and Akutagawa, allows from so many interesting parallels.

I absolutely LOVE that Chuuya is the singer of the OP! It reminds me of Mako's VA singing the OP for Free! ^^ And yesss, little teases of Chuuya and Dazai's relationship...so intriguing, as is Fitzgerald! He has my curiosity PIQUED! I am so excited to see how "The Great Gatsby" translates to an ability. You are so right about Akutagawa and Atsushi -- I am a sucker for parallels like this, too, ahaha, and it's sooooo neat that each of them represent what the other could have been, depending on their relationship with Dazai...which has me even more curious about Dazai's past in the Port Mafia, too! Ahhhh, the mystery! ^^ Thank you for the kind words and have a wonderful day, too!

First glimpse of PM Dazai!! This episode is crucial to establish how different Dazai was as a mentor to both of these boys and how much that has impacted them moving forward, especially in how they mento Kyoka themselves. To Akutugawa, Dazai was cruel and thus he only values strenght and has no care for others if they are not useful. On the other hand, to Atsushi, Dazai was kind and thus Atsushi wants to pay it forward with Kyoka. That being said, the reason this is one of my favorite episodes is not any of those but because of Chuuya. I just love their relationship of brain vs brawn that he has with Dazai. I can’t wait for you to see more of him.

what did I do?? everything wrong!! The way you were like, accidentally right again? It's the unnecessary blame Akutagawa puts on Atsushi. It's definitely due to an upbringing but Aku certainly has been touched by jealousy by Atsushi simply existing and Dazai giving him more attention and reverence. And speaking of upbringing, it's rather funny knowing how similar they actually are. More so than either is willing to think about at the moment. Because what--are we going to sit down and talk about our trauma? Absolutely not--just fighting please. But the parallels are there. Even minorly so when it comes to the simplest motif about names. It's not a spoiler cause you know their full names but you have Atsushi the Tiger vs Ryuunosuke the Dragon. So now we have folklore parallels sprinkled in. But yeah Dazai in the Port Mafia was someone to be feared though beyond "youngest executive in Port Mafia history" as well as his then much colder demeanor, up to this point, we don't know the specifics of why. There is a stark and harsh contrast between how Dazai interacted with Akutagawa and how Dazai now interacts with Atsushi. So then that poses the very important question; what happened to Dazai in the time between leaving the mafia and joining the agency? And why did he leave in the first place? Also I totally forgot we get to see Francis this early. Granted, now that we're in the final stretch of episodes for season 1, it's not early, but I could've sworn we didn't get a glimpse until next episode. Color me surprised for a second but it's just another sign that more chaos is approaching.

I love that he's the OP singer for this show -- reminds me of Mako being the lead singer for the Free! OP! :P And yessssss, interesting parallels! I'm excited to get more with Dazai and his past with Akatugawa as the show goes on! ^^

romaniablack

I reallly find the parallels with Dazai's relationship with both Akutagawa and Atsushi to be SO fascinating! I can't wait to get more PM Dazai hopefully, though he is QUITE scary! And Chuuya...ahhh, already liking his dynamic with Dazai! More, pleassssseee!! :D :D

romaniablack

Right?! Akatugawa is soooo jealous and angry at Atsushi for his own personal reasons; I actually didn't even make the Dragon/Tiger connection -- that's great! Yesssss...I want more with these two in the future! And sprinkle Dazai in there, of course. Yes, your questions about Dazai are all of mine at this point! I'm excited to get into season 2 and maybe get some answers! And yessss, I am SOOOO excited about the Great Gatsby getting introduced in this; color me intrigued as well! ^^

Akutagawa says a lot of pretty mean things to and about Kyouka, and he believes and internalizes them all for himself too. And Dazai was responsible for most, if not all of it. That's the main reason why I can't really like Dazai, though I can appreciate his efforts with Atsushi and his work with the agency. Kyouka had Atsushi and Atsushi had ADA Dazai, but Akutagawa didn't have anyone to tell him he was worthy of being alive. It doesn't make what he did to Kyouka okay, but he does truly think he's doing what's best for her. And more Chuuya! Yeah, Chuuya and Dazai's relationship is really interesting too and you'll get to know a lot more about both of them further on in the series. The newest light novel is actually all about Chuuya's past (and of course, Dazai is a part of it) but it's gonna be a while 'til that gets animated.

romaniablack

Yesss, you can definitely tell that Akutagawa is projecting his own insecurities and fears onto Kyouka and Atsushi...which is sad, but that also leaves a lot of questions about Dazai that has me curious! Hmmm, that analysis there does make me feel bad for Akutagawa...maybe he has Higuchi? Eh? Hmmmm....a lot to think about. And yes, the Chuuya/Dazai relationship is one I'm curious to see unfold as the series goes on!!

Funny how you said that Atsushi+Akutagawa are kind of in the same boat as Dazai and Chuuya. This episode shows us more of manipulative, forward-thinking Dazai, and it's safe to say now everything, every word and action of Dazai have their purpose. Everything he said to Akutagawa, as well. This one is pretty easy to manipulate, isn't he?

romaniablack

Yessss, this other side of Dazai is intriguing and quite scary, so I'm curious to know more! Ahhhh....and YES, Akutagawa is REALLY easy to manipulate from what we've seen so far; he relies a LOT on his emotions.
