2021-10-19 03:44:35 I LOVE THIS MOVIE! I think it may be my favorite Free content. This was the first thing I saw of Free, so I was pretty sad when I didn't saw Ikuya (my fave) on the first season. It also explains why I have been team Mako/Haru from the start :D. I think you may be a little confused about the time line so here it is (so far): During the first years of elementary school, Haru and Mako were in the same one and Sousuke, Rin and Kisumi in another. Then, during their last year in elementary, Rin moved to the same school as Mako and Haru. He also entered the same swimming club as Mako, Haru and Nagisa where they formed their relay team. During middle school, Rin went to Australia and Mako, Haru & Kisumi went to the same one as Ikuya and Asahi. Both, Sousuke & Nagisa, went to different middle schools. Sometime after this movie and before High School, Rin visits from Australia and meets up with Haru. They have the race where Rin loses and Haru quits competitive swimming because of it. Makoto also quits when Haru does. Finally, during Haru and Mako's second year of HS, Nagisa comes to the same HS and convinces them to start a swimming club at their school. :))

I had no clue what to expect from this film, but it was REALLY good! And it was the first Free! content you saw?! WOW! I bet that made seasons one and two a strange experience!! And uhm, yesss, this was definitely feeding the MakoHaru shippers! ^^ And thank you for the timeline information -- that helps a LOT! OKAY, so Rin was on the relay team with Nagisa, Mako, and Haru while they were still in elementary school! Oooooh, that makes much more sense! Japanese school setups still confuse me at times, but nowwww I get it! ^^ Thanks so much!! This movie was great, but the new characters REALLY have me excited for Season 3! :3 I can't wait!!

This movie definitely surprised me with the angst it managed to drum up! Particularly the rift that formed between Makoto and Haru, talk about hard to watch! It's like you said: really jarring to see Makoto on an uneven keel. I like how Makoto's blatant confession (and that GAY-ASS pool scene) kinda answers the question of "Why no MakoHaru confession in the series?" Because it happened beforehand, duh! Speaking of gay, Nao and Natsuya, am I right?? I really like them together. I see what you mean about the Sousuke/Rin vibes, with the clear love of competition and a debilitating injury, though I kinda see them being like Makoto/Rin; Caring and teaching/fiery and passionate. I noticed the bits of Asahi/Ikuya banter, but I have to say Asahi and Kisumi are a better pair as far as I'm concerned. Kisumi is so complimentary of Asahi the entire time, it's really cute to me. Also, I don't think it's too spoiler-y to say that many of your concerns with continuity will be addressed handily. As usual, thanks for the reaction!

Right? I did NOT expect all the angst we were given in this movie! Blame it on the middle-school hormones, eh? I did not like seeing Mako not his supportive, parental self, so movie: mission accomplished if you were aiming to make me want to root for him and Haru to persevere! And yeaaaaaah, the fact that the confession’s already happened between him and Haru? Totally agree! That pool scene! XD How can you not ship them at this point?! And Nao and Natsuya – I like your comparison to Mako/Rin over Sosuke/Rin – I definitely see that; but those two…hooo….middle school tension! XD They definitely make a good pair and I’m excited to see them as they’re older. To be honest, I didn’t get the Asahi/Kisumi vibe UNTIL I watched “Timeless Medley” (which comes out next week). By the end of those movies, though, I TOTALLY see it now, and that has me really excited for season three!! Kisumi’s kind, unwavering friendship + Asahi’s bold, energetic, unwavering friendship = magic. ^^ Thanks for the kind words and not spoiling! I’m sooooooo hyped for the rest of the Free! Movies and season 3, now that I’ve got to see our new characters on screen!

I think what might be confusing you about the school is the fact that their schools don’t go from elementary to 12 grade. They have elementary schools from which they graduate and then they have to apply to a middle school based on grade and extracurriculars, etc. And then same with HS once they finished MS. Therefore, some students get separated or reunited each time they finish a “level”. Like, for example, in Haikyu when Kageyama finished MS he took the entrance exams for Shiratorizawa HS but didn’t pass and had to go to Karasuno instead. Did that make sense?

romaniablack

That makes SO MUCH sense! U.S. schools are like, "Eh, we'll take ya!" Hahaha, so there's no entrance exams, etc. Mannnnnnn...Kageyama and his entrance exam for Shiratorizawa **cries in manga** -- but thank you! That actually helps a lot! I've already recorded Timeless Medley (on Monday), but I'll have to bring this up in Take Your Marks! :D
