NOTE: I'll go ahead and say it; my brain was a fangirl mush watching this and I kept calling Kaji as Kaiji/Haiji. I apologize if it's annoying...I cringed the whole time editing, so I wanted to bring it up. So, I am sorry, y'all! -___-

BUT....I am SO GLAD Given is back! This movie was the shot of Given goodness to my system I needed: Emotions! Relationships! Music! It was everything I wanted for the movie, and it has me REALLY excited to dive into the manga and see what was left out and what could possibly be included in a Season Two if they do it! ^^

Thank you for the kind words! YES! I went ahead and caught up with Given (because watching this movie was like opening the flood gates and it cannot be stopped now, haha) and there's SO MUCH they could do with a season 2 of the series, especially focusing on Mafuyu and Uenoyama's relationship. But, as a Haruki fan, this movie just. UGH. SENT ME. And aaaaaahhhh, it's been such a long time coming, but I'm excited/dreadfully sad to finish Banana Fish. I've been watching it for SO LONG but I also don't want it to end. T_T It's going to be an emotional roller coaster for sure!

And you caved. LOL! I would love a season 2. Of the BLs manga out there Given is really on a different level with its story and characters, they are both so layers and grounded in real life. The real life aspects to the story allows it to be relatable to a wider audience which is one of the reasons I think it doing so well both in Japan and outside of Japan. And yes, Kizu Sensei has a knack for expressions, you can truly feel what the characters feel. I also love the themes she has running through out the story - "the cycle of the seasons" and "letting go and moving on". It deserved a second season and I will do what I can to support (manga, calendars, music, etc.) in the hopes that $$ will help make it worth it for the studios to consider bringing us more Given in the future.

Agreed! I can't wait until my calendar and other manga volumes arrive! ^^ But YES, this show just handles the realistic and yet fantastic elements of romance so well...everyone can relate to having to move on from a bad relationship, being in love, etc. And the characters are all so different, complex, relatable...this series is just a fantastic one in general, regardless of the BL genre. **continues to fangirl** I hope we get more content in the future as well!! And YES, I totally CAVED. It's been a long four-month wait and I'm so glad it's here!!

Man, I loved this movie so much. I love characters that have real flaws. I love that stuff got messy, as hard as it was to watch. I love that even in that awful moment, Haruki was more worried about Kaji's pained look than he was his own vulnerability. I love that Kaji had a chance for redemption. I love that Kaji essentially had to 'man up' and break up with Ugetsu not once, but twice. I love Mafuyu pleading "let this reach them!" I love the fierceness in Kaji's eyes as he tells Haruki he needs to go to the station but that he'll return; his resolve completely emboldened by Mafuyu's song. That Ugetsu crying shot is pure artistry... quite a gut-punch, no matter how you feel about him. The little bit we did get between Uenoyama and Mafuyu was really, really cute. And the music absolutely lived up to the hype! (I've had that ending theme song on repeat...) OK I'll stop gushing now. I am so glad you reacted to this! It blew me away, even though I had already read ahead. Speaking of reading the manga, WOW, you have SO MUCH self control to keep from reading it! I went a bit overboard when I first finished up the series. If I had any gripe about the movie, it's just that the pacing was very, very rapid, which I can imagine isn't their fault. If I remember correctly, the manga makes the fallout from 'the incident' really feel like this massive, massive thing that kinda clouds everything. I just felt like in the movie they had to get over it fairly quickly, comparatively. Also there's tons of cute stuff in the manga that was missing, primarily with the younger boys. I'd imagine that would get included in a season 2, although that might make the chronological order a bit skewed. I'll stop writing my thesis paper now and just say again: thanks for the reaction! I really feel like I'm watching it with a friend, and that you actually care about it as much, if not more than, me.

I love how this was Kaji and Haruki's movie -- as well as Ugetsu's. That Mafuyu was the matchmaker through it all and the unlikely (or is it?) friendship he's developed with Ugetsu. Ugetsu needs a healthy platonic friendship in his life, for sure. And how Kaji realized his mistakes and worked the whole movie to help make them up to "earn the love" from Haruki. *swoon* It was so great! There were so many nuances with their expressions, the dialogue; it was exactly what I wanted from Given! It was HARD resisting spoilers, but now that I've seen the movie, the flood gates have opened! Hahaha, I've caught up with the manga and all I can say is that I really want to see a season 2 -- season 1 did a nice job of changing around events to fit an anime storyline, so I think they could reference the film and what happened when touching on the events with Mafuyu and Uenoyama that were happening around the same time! I have faith they could do that! :) Gotta save that kiss for the anime, I guess! :3 And thank you so much for the kind words! There are definitely more avid Given fans out there, but I love this series a lot! And that's my goal -- to make reactions that feel like we're all watching together, I guess. :)

Ahhhh, I'm so torn with Fruits Basket! I've read the manga and watched the original series; I started the new series in 2019, but haven't made it all the way through the first season -- I've debated putting it in a poll or just watching and then doing a soapbox about it.
