NEW REACTION LINK: https://share.vidyard.com/watch/HSpWSg3VX7EzBFZX5ijaUr?

I was down on Kakeru last episode, but this episode...the turn around of the team! The character development! The sudden collapse of Haiji?!

I was strung through SO many emotions this episode -- and my heart was so full from seeing Kakeru's development and opening his heart to his teammates, that it almost seemed to overshadow Haiji's predicament. I'm still concerned though. @___@

I hope you enjoy the full length reaction!

Roller Coaster of emotions. With Kakeru you have to remember he is always running out front, he never really "sees" his teammates running. Plus he is SO focused on his own running his, own progress he is blinded to what is going around him. Haiji forced Kakeru to sit back and watch for once. Honestly, Haiji is a genius in reading people and then handling them correctly, pushing when they need to and pulling them back when he needs too. Haiji is honestly one of my favorite characters. He is so self sacrificing for those he cares about and he cares about his team. Picking one favorite episode for this anime is extremely hard but I really LOVE episode 10. That's all I will say.

ahh yes the haiji cliffhanger. We were soo concerned about the rest of the team we dropped our guard on worrying about Haiji and look how well that turned out. Not gunna mention this part too much obviously as of course NO SPOILERS but man I remember how scared I was when I first watched it. This team 🖤 Haiji was an absolute genius to realise what they all needed at this time. He had the ‘best’ people run the race knowing that either they were close to time anyway or that they had a good relationship with running currently so didn’t need an intervention. And then took the ‘worst’ performing people and gave them a new perspective. “Stop. Enjoy the view. And then start running again.” Yes, running is a lone sport but just like Haiji said way back in episode 4 ‘you are always running with someone even when you are alone’. Kakeru particularly needed to see that no one was running half assed, and gosh when he started cheering for the them my heart burst too. Also the Haiji gif of him spinning his arms like that is just soo bloody good! 😄 The drip feed of Haiji backstory continues...That moment with Haiji and Prince in the kitchen (why are all the best conversation happening in the kitchen??) is soo very special. We catch a glimpse of the fact that Haiji had to go back to absolute basics and start all over again. I can’t imagine what that’s like for what seem to be a person who was an incredible athlete (judging by what Fujioka said to Kakeru) to learn how to put one foot in front of the other again. And then, like you said, to realise why it is soo perfect that he has not left Prince’s side, not because his presence will demand Prince to run, but that he KNOWS what it’s like to start from the very beginning and will stay by him to help him. Didn’t I tell you this show is perfect to rewatch?! 😊. Also the fact that both of these two our literature students and are beautifully articulate in expressing how they feel to each other is just wonderful to see. And lastly I know it’s a little frustrating to not get Haiji and Kakeru complete backstory yet but trust that there is a reason and it will all be worth it in the end.

Ooooohh!! And that episode is NEXT! @__@ Oh cool!! That is so exciting!! Wow, and that early on, too? Hmmm... YES! I hadn't even thought of that until Haiji pointed that out, that Kakeru was always running "away from his problems" and running in front; he never looked back and saw anyone else. It was seriously GENIUS planning on Haiji's part to make them watch the race and "see" the runners and the event for more than what it seemed competing. It also showed how important everyone is on the team; not just the runners, but the support as well. Haiji is LITERALLY one of my favorite new anime characters as well -- I know you said he's got a long list of fans, but I'm definitely one of them! Seriously, that man is on another LEVEL! This episode just warmed my heart! I can't wait for next week!

2021-10-19 03:57:49 Haiji is just on another LEVEL in terms of protagonists -- that's a great point; back in episode 4, the notion of always running with someone -- even if that someone is on the sidelines!! SO TRUE. <3 His humor this episode with his actions, especially at the track meet, were golden, so the ending really threw me for a loop! @_@ I really have gone back and watched that scene with Haiji and Prince over and over -- them both being literature majors (my major bwahaha) and having so much to relate to -- it was so beautiful and added such depth to Haiji's connection with Prince and his past....I definitely am re-watching this show, for sure! I know that patience is a virtue with this show, and we're only 9 episodes in, so I'm being patient on their backstory, but I'm confident we'll get more. The morsels we do get are so tantalizing, though!!
