NEW REACTION LINK: https://share.vidyard.com/watch/FtjDc8pevkfjDqCZE3HvQM?

This may very well be the episode that made me love this series!

From Prince's speech to Haiji (I don't know why I call him Kaiji in parts of this -- ignore me ^^) and his determination and leadership, to Kakeru's adorable modesty...hmm...this series is going to be something special, isn't it?

I hope you enjoy the full length reaction! Thank you for the support!

i love all your thoughts and theorys up to this point of the series ^_^ i feel like everyone can relate to princes speech in some way or form , ah so i have haiji and prince as your favourites so far ? but is there any close contenders at this point ? ^_^

Yeah, one of my favorite episodes. The scene at the end, is so perfect, the lines, the visuals and the music. When they started running its overcast (dark, depressing and moody), then right at the end as the team is leaving after the speech the clouds part, the sun shines and Kakeru takes a step forward following his new team. Such visual symbolism. The OST playing is called "We Must Go" and its the main theme of the show. Also, pay attention to the sound and visual design of this show they do a great job using both to help tell the story, adding depth and emotions. Haiji continues to be BEST BOY!

you are truly seeing the beginning of why Haiji is probably my favourite leader character, not just in anime, but sport stories in general. He truly knows how to get on the same level of each of his teammates, and never belittling them, and we are only seeing the start of how awesome he is at his role. I loved his patience with Kakeru in particular. He’s always a lending hand but he doesn’t push him. Prince’s speech is a stroke of writing genius. He’s already tapping into what this show is about. There’s no ‘high level’ or ‘low level’ with this group. They are simply themselves and they are respectful in what progress they are at now and what they will develop to be. It’s not winners, losers and shitty coaches who uses favouritism, and results to try and run a high school sports team. Sakaki is an asshole yes, but totally a product of the learning environment he had in high school. As you can tell there’s much more to this backstory of Kakeru than what we have seen so far, but you’ll have to wait and see. Loved what you had to say about the “never running by yourself”. This story really taps into not just the physicality of running but mentality too. Kakeru is only seeing the physicality of it currently. You run on your own. But of course anyone who really has a passion for running knows that there’s soo much more to it than that ...

Yes!! Prince's speech is so relatable; I love it! Haiji and Price are my favorites, but Kakeru's backstory and realizing he's just shy/modest/introverted really drew me to his character! I also really like Nico and Yuki -- honestly, there's not any characters I DON'T like at this point, but probably the ones I like the least are the twins and King...just because I don't know as much about them.

2021-10-19 04:00:43 Oooh, yeah! That ending when the sky opens up, my heart was so full! <3 And that the wind was blowing Kakeru towards the team? *chef's kiss* I really love how rich and layered this show already is, while also be subtle and "real." and YES! Haiji is just...BEST BOY all around! Give him all the things!!

Oooh, I've only watched/read Haikyuu, I'm reading Slam Dunk right now, and have this show and Free! but already Haiji is SOOOO far up there as favorite leaders for a sports series. His compassion and caring about Prince's interests just sent me! And I'm REALLY intrigued to see how his and Kakeru's relationship develops, especially after this episode when he stood up for him. Yes, Prince's speech was soooo good, and I like your comment about the team dynamics. Honestly, their coach seems pretty standoffish and letting Haiji take care of everything -- when he says that Kakeru can run without being yelled at, that was a big eye-opener into how Haiji views the way the team works. I'm realllly interested to see more of why Sakaki is so standoffish towards Kakeru, but MAN, he was a piece of work this episode. I'm curious to see what led him to be that way. And I agree, the spiritual nature of running that they're hinting at is soooooo cool! This show is just really getting ahold of me so far, and I can't wait to see where it goes!

I’ve always loved sports stories (anime, books, live action) so I have a lot of experience with tropes and themes, yet RWTW holds such a special place in my heart because it just takes its themes and perfectly executes them. But I’ll hold of on gushing as I know that can go into spoiler territory! 😄

Your comment has me soooo excited for future episodes, but thank you for avoiding spoiler territory! ^^ I love going in blind to these episodes!
