*ALL CAUGHT UP IN HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

If this is how I end my journey with Psycho-Pass for now (except for the livestream to come), I think I'm fine with it! The threads all come together to tie up Season 3 and there was intrigue, comedy, FAN SERVICE, and ROMANCE subtext? SHOW. You spoil me (well, there were ways you could have spoiled me MORE, but I get it).

This series has meant SO much to me, and I am going to miss it on my Wednesdays! Get out your bourbon and tear open your pack of madeleines! It's time for a three and a half-hour reaction and discussion extravaganza!

Anime Annie

May be one of my longest comments for Psycho-Pass...whoops 😅 I've really enjoyed your reactions to this entire anime. It has been a wonderful, sometimes crazy, ride. We have a bit of an open ending that we could have more seasons or movies, but at the same time I'll be okay if we don't get anything more. You saying that Akane would be all about Kougami looking like a sugar glider, meanwhile I was thinking Ginoza would enjoy him wearing that so much because he could push him out of the aircraft without any severe consequences 🤣 Was waiting for your reaction to man-bun Ginoza. Personally I don't mind the look on him, but it does mean he cut if after the events of Providence for his hair to be the length and style it was in Season 3...which there is the trope of cutting your hair when you move on in your life, though its more commonly linked with a break-up of a romantic relationship 😏 I do love Atsushi's somewhat gentle, if not blunt, reminder to Akane that you can attract more flies with honey...just he was a little brusquer by saying he managed to open Japan's borders by not pissing people off. I feel like this side of him is a little like how Shindo is when he drops his guard/façade. Mika's face really is so expressive when it comes to dealing with Frederica 🥰 Something I didn't notice on my first watch of this movie is that the police car Akane is driving is number 317. Not a big deal, but the way the lettering is done on the roof it makes it look like they're spelling out the word "LIE". Potentially reading too much into it, but considering Atsushi talks about how he'd told many lies in his life it did jump out at me as being a subtle nod to the conversation Atsushi had with Akane not being the truth, or at least not the entire truth. Made me laugh that, once again, Ginoza's hair was a distraction for you 😆 Maybe that's the real reason we only got snippets of him in Season 3 and First Inspector: he'd have distracted our gaze too much from the actual plot and possibly even prevented us from getting attached to the new characters 🤣 Absolutely adore Mika just casually stepping back to hide behind Ginoza when she realises Yabuki likely heard her comments 😂 Even with the foreknowledge of what we know about Atsushi from Season 3/First Inspector, Saiga's response to him casually greeting him to be "Why are you with her?" definitely sets off all the alarm bells. And certainly heightens your concern for Akane. Also gotta say how much I love the greying of Saiga's hair to show time having passed since the last time we saw him. Your worry over Saiga being targeted outside of the facility made me have to pause 🥺😭 Saiga never got mentioned the entirety of Season 3 and First Inspector, so his death gives a lot more impact in this movie. As does his death almost being his choice to save Akane from being pulled down with him. Hurts like hell though. The scene of Kougami's return is so good. We get Ginoza still being angry with Kougami, and shoving him up against a window; Sugo trying to calm Ginoza; Mika being angry at Ginoza losing his composure, but then losing track of what she's saying because she recognises who exactly Ginoza's getting rough with; and then Kougami ignoring Mika's existence in order to greet his Inspector 🥰 Such a little scene but nice little moments to add depth to various characters. I will say that Ginoza and Kougami have met since Ginoza became an Enforcer, back in the first Psycho-Pass movie. Just they didn't get to spend as much time together as Kougami and Akane did. I like the fact all of them on the aircraft are using their watches to read up on the data that Frederica is telling them, but Saiga is a little more "old school" and using a tablet. It could be because he's just "on loan" as it were to Akane, but I like to think of it as a detail of Saiga's character that links to the other times we saw him help the team through the old methods (such as psychoanalysis, and posting on forums). Same with when he's taking physical notes to compile a profile on Tonami. The scene between Saiga and Kougami reminds me of earlier times, especially with the way they bounce ideas off one another. Feels very reminiscent of back in Season 1 when Kougami went on the hunt for Makishima and went to Saiga for help on tracking him down. You said at the start you wanted shipping moments...can't get better than Kougami immediately diving on top of Akane to protect her with his body. Like that whole scene is a trope in any action movie for the two main leads. And then towards the end with the whole princess/bride carry? Sooo many shipping moments and I am here for all of them! Sugo getting shot at and Ginoza coming in to save him though is like in Season 3 when the vice versa happened and they had their whole kabedon moment 😏 I almost choked from laughing so hard at your "Stop with the knife fight!" Haven't you learned by now, Psycho-Pass *loves* their knife fights 😆 Two positives(?) for having a metal arm: you can use it as a weapon to shove it through someone's torso, and when they go to blow themselves up you can just disconnect yourself from it and get away safely 🤣 I just knew you'd have the same shipping thought as me at seeing the glass of alcohol on the table in Akane's room 😆🥰 Definitely prefer the idea that Kougami and Akane went back to her room so as they wouldn't be alone, and the anger/grief/blame wouldn't eat each of them up. Out of the multiple aircraft they have at their disposal I have to laugh that Kougami and Ginoza got put on the same one. Incredibly messed up. Your soon-to-be brother-in-law murdered your mother basically under the command of your best friend's father. And just before your wedding. Poor Maiko. I don't think her Hue would ever recover if she learned of the web Atsushi created with the intel they passed on all to try and catch "The General". Also kinda awful of him to kill Kei's brother the day before his wedding, and then commit suicide after giving a speech at said wedding. No wonder all three of them were so focused on getting answers in Season 3. The Dominator changing to Eliminator mode is a big nope, but shows the drawback of the Divider. Whilst it worked for giving them a low Crime Coefficient, Akira straining for control to kill himself will still read as him trying to kill another person to the Dominator because of the Divider. That moment, rewatching with you in the reaction, honestly reminds me a lot of Geto's body trying to take back control from Brain-kun in Jujutsu Kaisen 🥺 Kill themselves to stop their body being used by someone else to hurt others. Shindo being the one to walk Maiko down the aisle 🥺 Definitely adds a little more canon to them potentially being a throuple, but it does make me wonder if perhaps originally her mother was the one who was supposed to have that role. And instead, because of Atsushi using her as a lure for Tonami, his son had to step up into the position instead. Learning that the Sibyl System decided to work with the ones mostly to blame for the deaths of Saiga, Yabuki, and Akira (and sort of Atsushi) just adds more reason to be distrusting of them. The group has already proven that their Hues being clear is meaningless in regards to the criminal activities they're willing to do/force others to commit. And yet Sibyl System accepts that as a suitable reason to work with them. Kougami's "Knowing you, I assume there's a plan?" never fails to make me laugh, because I always read it as: if it was Kougami in charge of mucking the Sibyl System's plans up he'd just go in all guns blazing with no real plan except improvisation 😆 The Bifrost does connect slightly in the phone call Atsushi had with Homura's father, before Atsushi met up with Akane and invited her to Kei and Maiko's wedding. That's when Atsushi lost his Inspector title with Bifrost, because he gave the Stronskaya Papers to the PSB instead of Bifrost. Homura didn't take the Congressman seat until after his father retired from the role. The scene of Sugo flying the drone whilst Hinakawa tries to hack the communication system honestly reminds me so much of Star Wars: A New Hope when Luke and the other X-wing pilots fly through the Death Star to try and destroy it. Our final piece of Psycho-Pass animation and once again they do not flinch away from the more realistic and relatable aspects of the show, alongside showing the image the cost of war has. For me Sugo's scenes aren't as anxiety-inducing for me because I'm able to always remember he pilots the drones remotely, so out of everyone attacking he's the safest one 😆 He's in the ship with his friend piloting the plane. Its still pretty stressful because of how much everyone is counting on him, but not as life-threatening as Ginoza, Frederica, and Kougami storming the base. In First Inspector you asked for hair down Ginoza...well Psycho-Pass has granted your wish! 🥰😂 Your gasp of realisation made me laugh. They really did just throw it at us out of the blue. So unprepared for how beautiful he is. Kougami reading Akane's letter and calling her an idiot seriously gave me such Sherlock and Liam flashbacks from YuuMori, and Liam's goodbye letter to Sherlock 🥺😢 I'm sorry but when you said "She's gonna tear it up" I burst into a fit of laughter 🤣🤣🤣 Akane *did* say in her letter to Kougami that she learned from him what to do. Of course that's gonna involve a gun and shooting someone. But hey, at least it was just Kasei. Though as the public aren't aware of the truth regarding Kasei it looks like point blank murder of a person to everyone else. And now I can say that the Chief we saw in Season 3 had a different look because Sibyl System had to create a new "face" for the public in order to not have to explain away Kasei being a robot controlled by the brains of Sibyl. Kougami said that when it was all over Akane could cry then 😭💔 Hanazawa Kana did an amazing job at really making you feel Akane's pain, grief, sadness, and loss in her weeping. But to end with Kougami making a vow to free Akane? Just giving us that final shipping moment 😍 I watched as each Season/movie became available on streaming sites. But I do know some people who waited or started the series after everything had already been released and chose to watch in chronological order (in regards to the events of the shows) instead. I do think, especially with Saiga's death, it left them a little more nervous for certain characters surviving Providence to then appear in Season 3/First Inspector. Definitely agree with you that falling would not be the way to go, only my thoughts went a little darker/more morbid than yours 😅 Falling would give you that time to anticipate the impact which would be terrifying, but the reason it'd be a no for me is that, depending on how you land, it might not be an instantaneous death and instead you could be lying there in agony for a few minutes before you do. Several new seiyuu for this movie: Akira is voiced by Kase Yasuyuki, and has also voiced Kankurou from Naruto; and Gerger in Shingeki no Kyojin. Milcia is voiced by Tsuda Shouko. She has also been the seiyuu for Izumi Curtis (the Elric Brothers' teacher) from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood; and Anne's Mother from Vinland Saga. Yabuki is voiced by Hashi Takaya, and has also voiced Konrad from Monster; Kakuzu from Naruto; and Lobov from Shingeki no Kyojin. The redhead black Peacemaker is voiced by Shirokuma Hiroshi. He has also been the seiyuu for Minoura from Bungou Stray Dogs; and Yakushiji from Season 3 of Psycho-Pass. Homura's father is voiced by Mugihito. He has also been the seiyuu for Gakuganji from Jujutsu Kaisen; and Sverkel from Vinland Saga. And Tonami is voiced by Ootsuka Akio, and has also voiced The Skull Knight from Berserk; Kyouraku from Bleach; All For One from Boku no Hero; Fukuchi from Bungou Stray Dogs; Todoroki Tenma from Season 3 of Psycho-Pass; and Thorkell from Vinland Saga.

Loved the reaction & discussion! I won’t go into all the stuff that’d just be repeating from my letter. 🥰 Providence is such a complete delight! (I’m so happy I got to see it in a cinema last year, as well.) I also could, legitimately, bleat on endlessly about Psycho-Pass – this is a significantly edited version of my comment, I am so sorry. 😅 Part 1: Very glad to see that you loved it and were happy with its work in wrangling the various elements of S3. I think they did exceptionally well – as you said, we know what happens by who is in S3 and who isn’t, the fact that tension and worry are still retained just points to more amazing character work. Any sort of flashback is a risk – having The Entire film be one? Honestly, pretty brave from a creative point of view – they have to bank on so many things working right and being interesting to the audience, including all of S3. For the benefit of transparency, I’d say the majority of flagged comments – if they weren’t spoiler-ing through explanations - were regarding “chronological vs release order.” Unfortunately, the existence of the difference alone would have been a spoiler, especially as soon as S3 started. To me this also links to what PP is, and is not, – it has never been a static work when it comes to genre across seasons or iterations. Post-S2 I knew that every time I started a new part there was a chance the narrative structure would be different (so far it has been different every time, I’d say) – but I also know that I’m into that sort of thing. I agree that it is a binary - literally impossible to compare because one precludes the other. But I think the main thing I can point to in terms of which way is ‘best’ - is Akira. I think if we had met Akira in Providence first – he would be just another in a line of antagonists. Could we really say he’d come across as more than a Nicholas Wong or Guillermo Garcia? Post-S3 and Kei/Maiko/Arata, Akira literally gains a sort of sainthood. The Akira “fight scene” for me is now Top 5 of action scenes for the entire series. Literal poetry in motion. The other point is the obvious, and really the only material reason – the creators intended it this way. On a different note, you asked why the horses and I say: why not a herd of horses?! 🤣 The melodrama! Tree on fire, the rain, the cliffs, the string orchestra – a biblical Sherlock/Moriarty by the waterfall, or Seven Samurai. Psycho-Pass does not skimp on dramatic environments. I do wish we’d had more of Kogami/Akira – ‘cause this was only about the 2nd time they’d met I think, I find that to be really hilarious. 😆 Part 2: Moving onto some Sibyl pontificating. “Those brains are bitches” – is the ultimate truth. This really cuts to the core of my Sibyl-rage. Sibyl’s “understanding” is based on data sets – I interpret the criminally asymptomatic not with any basis on any diagnostic framework we would have access to, but a data point where Sibyl was unable to quantify why actions A+B did not equal C as Sibyl “knew” and expected. So, by assimilating the brain that produced this data point, Sibyl expands and is able to prevent being able to put into that situation again. I think then we have people like Akane – who have conviction that’s based on some recognisable factors, but also has such mental fortitude that again action D+E does not equal F: with Akane committing a murder but not a crime. CA as a spectrum of Sibyl Does Not Understand. And on the other side of the spectrum, we have those like Kagari 🧡 – where Sibyl “knows” they would have been a threat, that they would never have submitted to the status quo and has some semblance of proof for this within its own data-sets. So much of this film is about sacrifice – especially Akane and Akira, but the others, too: Saiga, Milcia, Atsushi, etc. The barrettes in Kagari’s hair all throughout S1? They were XII for The Hanged Man - surrender and sacrifice. I think it is still the core theme: what would you sacrifice for truth and justice? And what would you be forced to sacrifice by a parasite? Won’t ever give up my Kagari The Revolutionary narrative! 😆🧡 Part 3: Loved more of the little tidbits PP threw in here – “possession” via an idea. The theme of a tool (like that medical AI) being seen as a deity – it makes me very interested in how the PP team will incorporate commentary about generative AI into any future works. The “conflict coefficient” – sounds like the most terrible thing already. I’m always interested in what people think of Akane. To me she is one of the most remarkable protagonists – I’ve never really thought of where I would place her in a Anime Protagonist list, after this rewatch especially, I’d place her exceptionally high. I think those are some of the conversations I’m looking forward to most. Akane being called a witch is perfect choice – it is absolutely what Sibyl would consider someone like her to be - a detail that is tiny but so specifically correct and has so many layers. Very interested in what the "statutory" part of her Enforcer title will be like. Also, PP always making sure to include that class-commentary: “climbing a stairway that was prepared for you.” Part 4. Yugo Kanno 🥰 – back for Providence and produced even more stunning work, gonna share some specific links and will be able to send links to the full playlists in the Discord now 🥳: The culmination of the Psycho-Pass Symphony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghCo_1ummDo And to show the range, the Atsushi/Kasei scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmXUqc4Ultk Then the wedding scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Uh27wkeUkg And their arrival at the Final Boss location: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfHFSEoTLNY Akane’s theme (the growth!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAYNxIloWuM Part 5 (last one 🤣, also I checked this one with a mod). We do have a bunch of side-content to feast upon while we wait for more – there are audio dramas, stage plays, novels, manga, a visual-novel game, etc, etc. Some content has fan-translations (not much), some has only summaries, some has official releases (e.g. the manga you received + the VN). But overall, the lack of a consistent and non-problematic Western fandom has meant that a whole load of amazing content is only available in Japanese at this time. Will see what I can find - it'll be a nice little project to take my time with. 🥰 “Deleted scenes” are pretty rare in anime, but FI has something that’s close - the initial JPN release had an additional scene which takes place after the end, and it was never (that I am aware of) presented as part of the release for streaming. I think you will be able to see why they essentially deleted it + it was spoilery for Providence, it is here in case you are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hmg9BcTxJbQ This has been an amazing journey and I am looking forward to any and all future Psycho-Pass content! I still get to say: onwards and upwards 😆🥰

I mean, it’s the last episode for now, so I don’t BLAME you! 😀 This has been a very fun and crazy ride and the open ending does make me optimistic and excited if they carry on, but also okay if they don’t (though I will miss this show dearly). I just need Ginoza and Akane looking at Kogami in Sugar Glider attire. The hilarity! Ginoza just trimmed his bun, what are you talking about? 😛 Maybe he’ll grow it out later! But yes, his hotness was a TOTAL distraction! And him and Sugo sharing moments was so fun! And of course Kogami and Ginoza had to be together for a brotherly make-up discussion towards the climax of the movie! I was with the long hair though, SO pleased and SO star struck! And that scene of Kogami returning? *fans self* Yes, all the emotions! My shipper goggles were tightly on this whole film, but definitely starting with that scene! And yes, Arata does in some ways take after his dad, which is neat to see in this! And the “LIE” car note is REALLY fascinating! I hadn’t noticed that. And Saiga’s reaction was ALL we needed to know that Atsushi was shady, at least for me. Speaking of Saiga, my HEART. Yeah, him not being around during S3 or FI, I just chalked it up to Akane having taken that “role” of mentor-in-facility-aiding-from-outside, but this film definitely made you FEEL the weight of that character death. And Saiga not only working with Kogami as a Sherlock-ian partner, but giving dating advice?! The bridal carrying? Kogami on top of Akane?! MY SHIPPER HEART. Mika is MOST expressive when dealing with Frederica - I’m here for it! 😛 Psycho-Pass, if known for anything, will be known for madeleines and knife fights! The entire DRAMA with the Shindo family, Kei, Akira, and Maiko is something a soap opera DREAMS of. So messed up! But it definitely ramps up the reason why they were so adamant and on top of things in season 3! And Maiko with Shindo down the aisle; yeah, this movie definitely filled me with “We are a polyamorous relationship overall” with the three of them; Arata just doesn’t need a marriage certificate to prove it. ;) Oooohhh, that is soooo good of a commentary with the connection between Geto/BK and Akira in this - I can SO see that! It was surprisingly such a tense scene! It’s been so interesting seeing just how FLAWED the AI and brainwork of the Sybil System is, which shouldn’t be surprising since it’s mostly human brains running it - and human brains that believe in their own “superiority.” It's also neat to know about how the Bifrost/Homura/PBS connection all went down through Atsushi as well! Sugo and Hinakawa’s moment as reminiscent of Star Wars: A New Hope is SO hilarious! I love that connection and totally see it! And at least Sugo happened to have a major impact with this final film! Not you connecting AkaKoga to SherLiam! Oh my gossssssshhhh. But seriously, I feel Akane felt okay shooting Kasai because she knew it wasn’t “actually” killing someone. Just getting rid of another “spare.” But yeah, to everyone else, she knew they’d think of it as her literally murdering someone. And yes, it ties to the “new face” Kasai has in S3! But YES, oh my GOSH, Kana as Akane’s VA - that was RAW! That weeping made me feel uncomfortable with how real it was! And then to cut to Kogami vowing to free her?! SHOW! SHUT UP, SHOW! All of your reasons why Falling might not go “as planned” just make me dread it even more! And that’s interesting about the seasons; I honestly am glad I watched it in the way that I did - I didn’t feel spoiled to Saiga’s death and it being the last piece of PP media made it hit harder with me watching it! Thank you for all the VA information! What a cast of newbies to this one! And thank you for the comment and kind words! It’s been SUCH a ride, and at least I have the livestream to go through now with it before I can put it “on the shelf” for the time being. 🙂

I was sooo excited to dive into Providence and it did NOT disappoint! But yes, I think it’ll be fun to let loose about Psycho-Pass Sunday at the livestream but I could likely still go on and on about it! No apologies needed! Honestly, as much of a risk as it was for Providence, to finally give context and answers to S3 and FI was a great incentive to see it and to tie it all together - a nice stroke of good writing on their part - I had been DYING to know the circumstances of Akane in prison and the answers delivered! Ahhh, I’m glad you all kept me from spoilers that would have confirmed what Providence was! I know people try to help sometimes, but I wish they’d just be patient and let me figure things out first and then fill in where I missed! 😛 So thank you for that and your prowess to help moderate with Floor! Akira DOES take on a whole new context when you know how much he was loved by our Trauma Trio in S3/FI and then see the drama he gets involved in through Providence. Definitely makes his character viewed in a new light. That fight scene was a great one! WHY NOT A HERD OF HORSES! It’s just insanity but I’m not mad at it! I would not have opposed more Kogami and Akira content! The tie back it makes to Kogami and Kei’s fight makes it all the more heartbreaking! “Those brains are bitches,” indeed. I love the possibility of Akane as an “Anomaly within an anomaly” as I told one commenter on YT. She’s this factor that Sybil doesn’t *quite* know what to do with, and it fits her character so well, especially with her sense of justice and law of the people that goes against what Sybil believes. Man, tie back in Kagari, huh? RIP. Still miss him. That’s a great note about this series being about sacrifice! Yes, what is truth and justice “worth” for us? Kagari, your spirit lives on! Honestly, with as much talk and use of generative AI as we are seeing in society, it does make me hopeful we’ll get more PP content in the future - how could they pass up the opportunity to make commentary with the series and this going hand in hand? With images being more easily manipulated to deceive the public? Maybe the Sybil System will get into Crypto and NFT’s? WHO KNOWS! So many possibilities!! But yes, the conflict coefficient sounds like a not-so-good idea. And that note about the stairway and whether it’s “for you” or not. Oof. I LOVE Akane! I definitely agree she’s high up there for a MC for me! I love her attitude, the fact that she’s flawed, but striving for good - her whole demeanor is so great! And a “witch” to the Sybil System! I agree - it’s perfect for her! I’m curious what her Enforcer role would be like! Ahhh, the soundtrack can be listened to in full now, huzzah! Thank you for sending me all of these links to go through! Oh my! That is a LOT of side content! I sadly have not had time to go through the manga like I thought before the livestream (life has been too busy) but I’m glad to have it there to read in my own time and talk to you all on the Discord about it volume by volume (which will likely be the case)! But YES, if you manage to scrounge up some translated content that’s available to those outside of Japan, that’d be awesome - I won’t complain! 😛 Thank you for offering to look! AHHH, yeah, that deleted scene would very much reveal what Providence would be about, but I’m glad you shared it! And YES, this journey has been SO much fun - almost a year’s worth week to week! I can’t believe it but I AM excited for any more content we do get for the series and the livestream of course! Thank you so much for the comment, for moderating, and for the kind words! 😀
