Miura is testing me yet again, as we round out one arc with the Lost Children and start a new one starring the "H.I.C.K." (as coined by patron Emperor Gaeseric) army of Holy Iron Chain Knights...and I don't like where this is headed!

It can be hard when one of the most POWERFUL chapters in the series is sandwiched between such trifles...but my journey as a "Struggler" continues.

* 🍿😅* It could be because I’ve read it so many time, these chapters do not bother me. ( Edit: Ok, I do roll my eyes at the horse. ) I come here to see your reaction and you are not disappointing me. I have to remind anyone who reads this that I am a woman and in my own life I have been assaulted numerous times and still, this story means a lot to me as a human being. Watching a woman read it is very different than seeing a man reading it. I do notice the difference. I do feel for first time readers as it is hard to read at times. You are justified in your feelings. I just wanted to say that. Apostate- definition : according to the dictionary, “ a person who has abandoned religion or an affiliation. “ Lady Farnese calls Guts an apostate because she sees him as basically not a religious practitioner. He is not a believer. I do like Gut’s description of what a miracle is. If a miracle is something that is supernatural, as in something that should not happen in nature, then what happens to him fits the bill. If I saw something so bizarre that it was unnatural, I’d say, it’s a miracle. Maybe that’s just me. How does one get possessed in Berserk? It has almost happened to Guts a few times and we just saw that happen to Farnese. A person has to be weak of mind and have a desire to invite the possession. The person may not even know they have done so! I would argue that Farnese acting like she did towards Guts, that may have been all her on some level. I must qualify this as being how I read it. Was she in her right mind? I’d say she wasn’t. Did she have those desires towards Guts? Oh yes! Definitely! I’d even say she tried to assault Guts again and injure herself in the process. Did Guts take it as how I described it? I’d say no. The thing about demons, they seem to magnify the darkness already present in the mind. Mmm, the Beast of Darkness. It appears behind Guts in a cave that is a proven demon repellent. Hmmmm. I see it as more like a canid of some kind. Irl, the meaning of my name is “ Dark Son of Wolf.” 😅 which is pretty cool, but I am reminded of the Beast of Darkness! I am very sorry that you have been through multiple incidents; that’s awful. Thank you for the kind words and for validation – I definitely don’t feel it's a weakness to be appalled and offended by what I’m seeing in these chapters. That mindset has crossed my mind, wondering if I’m being too sensitive and “you shouldn’t let it bother you” – but then, I feel, if I don’t say something, am I condoning this as “okay?” That it’s just “what it is” – which almost feels even more gross to me – that I should “tolerate” blatant exploitation of sexual assault as “art” and “symbolism.” I just can’t let it slide without saying my piece, in the hopes that it registers how wrong it is to anyone that may not question it because no one’s ever spoken up to them about it. But alas, I’m preaching to the choir, I’m sure. All of our experiences are different, and I know you know what I mean, but thank you for being candid and offering that hand of understanding. Thank you for the apostate definition; someone in the Discord offered that as well, so I’ll have to bring it up for volume 19 (as I’ve already recorded volume 18 as I type this). And yes, a miracle by Guts’ definition definitely encapsulates and includes more…sinister things. I definitely think you have to be in a weakened “state” of mind to let a possession happen - I think she was definitely mentally and physically exhausted by that point. I would have to disagree with the sword moment, though. She may want to assault Guts, but I don’t think she was trying to “ride his sword” in the literal sense like that – she clearly seemed DISTRESSED as the demon possessing her was trying to lull her into giving into her temptation. I agree Guts was not taking what she was doing as Assault – heck, if we go by that account, HE has assaulted a female demon to kill it back then, right? I definitely agree that Farneese has darkness in her mind – I just HATE the way that Miura thought it was best to illustrate that. The acts done to Farneese in this volume were disgusting, gratuitous, and ultimately…unnecessary. You could have given us that narrative with Farneese in a classier fashion, as I talked about in the discussion. I want to give Miura praise, but I also feel he has every right to be criticized as well. I mean, my interpretation is that the Beast of Darkness is a manifestation of Guts’ own inner demons, but I hesitate to even talk about it here – I fear we’re on the verge of spoilers with this, don’t worry – I’m sure I will “figure it out” just hopefully not before it’s revealed. 🙂 Meanwhile, can I please get more with Skull Knight and Zodd? They’re literally a comfort ship in this bizarrely dark story at this point. I also feel so bad for the demon baby…it’s literally just…UGLY. Poor thing. AHAHA – the Spanish Inquisition is literally one of the few Monty Python related things I can recall on sight! We love to see it…just yes, keep that damn horse away. WHY. MIURA. WHY. Thank you for the comment and kind words – AND THE ZODD. OH MY GOD. I cannot believe you actually sent me it! I will have an unboxing video at the end of this month with it in there – I’m so elated to have gotten it! It’s going to be my emotional support for the next several volumes, I’m SURE.

I absolutely agree that there is all the room for criticism, there should be nothing so sacred as to not be subjected to it. I’m so glad you got Zodd! He is very soft and cuddly! The perfect buddy to read Berserk with! ❤️

Thank you for understanding! Sorry I went on a rant! This is the ONE subject area that does get me in a tizzy, so of course with it being so prevalent in this series, it sets me off -- but I'm grateful for you and some others that encourage me to work through it! I am so hopeful for the highs to come! :) I'm glad you all are patient with me working through the subject matter! And YES, Zodd is going to likely accompany me in every volume from here on in. :) I need him! hahaha!
