Thank you for this recap/discussion! It has been such an amazing journey. Actually, Monster was THE series which pushed me to follow your channel week-to-week (before that I’d just focused on particular series of interest). I knew the Monster discussions would be excellent – it’s a show made for your format. It is also a fascinating series because it does cross certain perceptions of anime-genre-boundaries – I’ve known people who “”got into anime”” (i.e. overcame assumptions) via Monster, as you noted; and also people who watched it, loved it for what it was, but it didn’t work as the gateway. To me it sits in a very unique place, which is wonderful. I think this is also why the discussions around Monster I’ve seen over the years include a larger cross-section of types of viewers. And it is funny to me how even with that, the concept of culpability causes so much consternation. 😂 Personally, Tenma is the ultimate husbando for all the various reasons you noted. And I love the Nina appreciation – the move of putting her in the Top 5 a step above Johan? 🤌 Complete agreement. Nina’s complexity is often ignored for all the usual and obvious reasons. Looking forward to the livestream! And to watching Pluto for the first time along with you, I am so glad I’ve saved it! 🥰

This journey had been SO incredible and I’m so glad it encouraged you to join the channel! I really appreciate that! And I can see it not quite working as a gateway because of how unique it is — but it’s so interesting and works so well as a stand alone series! And ahhhh, Tenma — I would make my case for my Grimmer crush, but Tenma overall works as a husbandos among husbandos — and YES! Nina has been noted by commenters as being too similar to Tenma, but I’d argue she’s definitely her own person, just fighting on the same side and in the same ways (at times) as Tenma. I had to include her in the Top 5! :) And YAY! For simultaneous Pluto watching!! I’m very excited for it and the livestream this summer for Pluto and Monster should be fun! Thank you for the kind words and comment! :D
