The Endless was a fun boogeyman, and I've got an interesting idea how I see it turning out.

The Endless is Tom, if his daughter is killed, and it's his daughter from the future if she's not.

If she dies, he has motivation to throw away all morality and curb-stomp them by Infinite replicating through time shenanigans. If she doesn't die, she most likely can time travel as an adult to any point in time where she already existed, coming back as many times as necessary to change her present.

Which one would you rather see?

As an author, I think the better option is Ella as an adult time traveller becoming the big bad character, because it prevents Tom from going on a revenge quest and losing his moral high ground/creating a clone army.

That level of power is attainable with what I've got in mind with him, but it requires a level of power creep i feel would possibly lower tension. Idunno.

What kind of things do you wanna see? Tell me in the comments below!

Deathburn

I support amoral tom, as well as pure evil tom.

The possibilities are Endless

Daniel Sanchez

It's the Terrans. These medieval assholes can probably make a lot of food, but unless their magic is a lot more logistically useful than we've seen, they probably don't have several billion people just hanging out. Either someone noticed the Great House force's portals, or Tom acquired backup, or the government illegally renditioned a portal mage or something.

I'd prefer Ella but i mean Tom's grandparents were killed he still has revenge reasons even without Ella dying.

Joe ?

Why not big bad Tom without dead daughter? Tom thinks his kid is dead so he goes on a world ending rampage, but they keep Ella alive because prophecy tells him that she's the only bargaining chip they have to stave off the endless. Then it turns out that all of this is future Ella acting retroactively to get revenge on the people who wronged her family line. That way it's kind of both.

Macronomicon

Well, there's revenge, then there's burn the entire world down. the major reason he has for not seeking the power to destroy the planet is BC his daughter is still on it somewhere.

SunderGoldmane

The hallmark of the early parts of this story was the fact that he’s a teen dad. I want that. Everything g that gets tossed at him passes through that character first. To that end it would be Interesting seeing him interact with time traveling adult Ella. I want to see Rick before he became an infinite universes jaded grandpa. I want to see that Rick discovered by time traveling sci fi adult beth. Alternatively it would be interesting as well to have endless be a sort of dark side version of himself that comes swooping in the closer to death any piece of himself gets. Trying to make your way through life and recapture your baby while practicing necromancy so that your e up twin doesn’t show up and kill literally everything is a motivation to get stronger and maintain your sanity. Maybe sci-fi future Ella can show up and expound on dark side tom then be a buddy comedy?

I was thinking possible world invasion from earth as an arc an tom has to stay ahead of them and find his daughter before nukes start falling. I wouldn’t want the primary story to be about earth groups invading but it would be cool to see macronomicon’s take on a “earth discovers a new world” story. Would be a decent back drop to write the main story on. Would be equally interesting to see Tom get paired up with some elite swat people. I love tactical fantasy so much but there’s very few that fit the genre. Think GATE the anime.

SunderGoldmane

I do want to see some real tactical minded earth people with guns get bound to toms wagon so to speak. Small loyal tactical crew that he can outfit with crypts alongside modern weaponry. Using multiple crypts in tandem with squad tactics, marking a target with a curse and then bullets curve a d track into them. Literal heartbeat magic sensors to see through walls. Various optical camouflage spells.

SunderGoldmane

That’s just like a pipe dream for me and obviously might not fit into your story but crypt tech with modern tech in the hands of someone capable and tactically minded would be a fun read.

Prinny Knight

Neither, think a self replicating terminator like entity that Tom makes in the future or in the present that’s sent into the future/past. Changes main directive as Tom influences the current time.

Deinos

Oh well I thought it would be Tom combining sciene/weapons with his magic to have a kind of demonic army with guns. Hm not sure if I like either option since auto-time travel is god mode and god mode is boring. Also you should always have the highground, especially with a clone army, we all learned that already.

Enzo Elacqua

I like Ella being a kind time traveler. Though I feel it would be kind of interesting if instead of being from the future she is from some alternate reality, and in that reality they failed to kill Ella but they killed Tom. Then in this reality it’s the opposite and Ella is killed and while Tom is in the process of becoming the Endless his daughter tries to stop him from becoming what she became in the alternate universe. Perhaps she tried to stop Tom from dying and instead made it so she died instead. Now she is trying to show him the light while helping him take revenge. All while trying to get to know the father she never got to meet.

As long as the Endless is Jacob I don't mind, would definitely prefer for him to be Ella's Terminator nemesis though

Alexis Lionel

I'm gonna go with the Tom Lineage bit. Though will still make a suggestion. Why can't the Endless be both Ellie and Tom? I mean, it'd be some weird time fuckery, but it could be that the Endless is less a person and more a possibility that made itself manifest. It's the possibility of sacrifice and revenge, wrapped in one. The sacrifice of Tom to save his daughter, but the sacrifice of his daughter to save her father. And the ensuing revenge from both. Whether knowing or not, they are... Like quantum bullcrap. They exist at the same time, but are different to each person who sees. So say that epilogue, it's not Ellie who ends up going through the portal. Instead Tom had managed to divert the cart leading to his arrival and then subsequent murder. Which leads to Ellie growing up hero worshipping her father who sacrificed himself to save her and her "retinue" or whatever the fuck Chris, the cop chick and their man-servant Grant are. She grows to hate that world and her powers let her clone herself or whatever power you wish. But at the same time, that didn't happen and Tom was too late. Finding too late that she was killed immediately on passage, he becomes consumed in a desire of vengeance, willfully making deals and training to carry war onto that world with his own power. And then you have the actual story, where Grant protected Ellie and gave a prophecy that was actually listened to and some god damned common sense was exercised and a possible bargaining chip wasn't sacrificed. Tom tried to save his daughter, but failed yet managed to wind up on that world instead of stuck on his own building an army to wipe out some mofos. But the Endless, exists regardless, an anomaly of time.

John Anastacio

I have no idea what that's all about but I voted for the lineage, simply because it has the word superposition, which I love after reading The Signal Shattered, sequel to Signal to Noise, both by Eric Nylund.

Macronomicon

I suspect you guys just picked the stable superposition because it sounds harder to write.

John Anastacio

Like adding the word quantum? Sounds mysterious and rarefied, but does not always live up to the advertising. I have faith in your writing, Macro.

RageBone

Fuck timetravel. Just FUCK IT. Do not make this another time Travel BS schenanigans. Prophesies meh, Time Travel? NOOOOO!

Jared Bowers

I think the endless is a self-aware botnet of outsiders that was giving a mission to destroy all the great houses. It is endless because as it kills gains more souls that spread throughout the entire botnet ganging them soul points allowing them to summon more outsiders to have more options to kill with to destroy the great houses. It becomes Tom's fail safe option if he's killed.

Andrew

the infinite number of him in cycle the universe is created by every time he sleeps
