I need a small race that likes making tech or alchemy, basically a gnome or dwarf knock off, but they need to be rebranded, since everything in the story has had a pallete swap to allow us to pursue our own mythos.

So, if you comment, give me a name, physical description, and cultural quirk. I'll mix and match out of the suggestions to create new races and characters from those races.

Umjin Small skinny people with rust colored skin Tend towards OCD so their cities and dwellings are all super organized but there is also a shit ton of beurocracy cuz everything needs to follow proper procedure

Cobalts, little creatures with skin tones varying between blue to grey. Instead of hair, they grow mineral-rich keratin spines that they can harvest rarer minerals from. Where do these minerals come from? They eat rocks, of course. Because they're always trimming their spines, they've got a constantly shifting fashion culture with regards to "hair" and "hair" accessories.

Jibbleya, A race of small, pink, semi-translucent people with very tubby bodies. Their biology affords them a resistance to chemicals and poisons, and they have taken that opportunity to experiment to a degree that would kill most people. They do not like sharp objects, and find it strange when people refuse to give them 'samples'.

The spines start out malleable, somewhat, but as the Cobalt consumes more and more rare minerals, the spines harden their hairstyle, giving them an almost rocky appearance, and often glittery due to lustrous metals and the like.

Seadrake

Knick-knacks small clockwork golem type creatures. Originally created to aid in mech repairs and production they eventualy learned how to create themselves. They are typically non-confrontational and trade materials for artifacts. Not much is known about their society as they live in forges deep underground. They only trade in materials not locally found or are only found on the surface. Their small frame allows for smaller more easily maintained tunneling networks though no human had been able to see their forge homes. Some knick-knacks have told of subterranean monsters that they fight off. Captured Knick-knacks have often created dangerous explosives and traps while in captivity, making enslavement unproductive. Interrogation and hostage situations ends in the subject self destructing. Suspicion is they have some type of ability to talk to eachother at distance, due to negotiators knowing more than they should during the aforementioned situations.

Phooka Phooka ( same word twice) they are small shapeshifters. (can turn in minture version of anything living ) they tend to be tricksters (a cluster of phooka spend years masquerading as different people playing harmless tricks and protecting their chosen communitys. Phooka phooka are hyber integllent and dabbel in organic machinery ( bone golemes flesh horrors and the like ,) they can temporary fuse together to make full sized people or creatures ) they are easly distracted. And they gather in groups of no more than five. Phooka in their base form are generally two too three feet tall blue skinned with four eyes and slightly pointed ears and teeth . That being said they often masquerade as different animals and races and tend focus on a family or person or in rare occasions entire small communities. They protect and play tricks on their charges intill said persons dies form old age or the phooka Phooka dies themselves. Phooka who live too old age (somewhere around 100 to 200 years old )are around 5 feet tall and phooka are extremely long lived growing bigger as they get older .tho most phooka never live past 20 years of age do to their thrill seeking and trickster ways. The phooka Phooka who do mangae to make it to old age tend to be ether extremely dangerous or extremely lucky. young phooka Phooka are Highly motivated by food and sex . a phooka can be your greatest Ally or your worst enemy . Also pure silver burns the ever loving shit out of them ,like third degree burns in seconds they do not like pure silver.

Why go small? Why not a race of massive giants that are avid doll house enthusiasts. They make everything to human scale because they thin it is cute.

I like the idea of some sort of hive mind colony crafters. Make them hairless and base their appearance and behavior off of dwarfified naked mole rats. They are eusocial and the entire colony can work together on great works or drones can labor away tirelessly on basic projects for the good.
