Content
Hey everyone. I thought I would include another quick video with this one.
I've been working hard on creating some cool trailer content.
I hate doing this kind of work but I want to do a re-brand/re-structure of the game.
It will help me if I can create a clearer picture of the type of game I'm creating. It also has helped me to create allot of new game visual content.
However, I'm grabbing the footage now so I'll be able to pull it together soon. I'm really happy with how the bits and pieces are looking. I'm not satisfied with everything. But I think it will do for now.
I've decided to delay the next demo. I'll explain more of my thinking next week but the short answer is just creating another quick demo of the new terrain is just a waste of your and my time. So I'm planning on creating the first prototype of a dialogue system and weave that into the next demo.
So in this log I thought I would talk briefly about more game story/mechanic details.
I've begun to get a much more clear idea of what I'm going to present.
First thing is a name!
Littleington University
This name has been chosen for a number of reasons. Firstly I'm planning on making the university the central theme/location for the game. This provides a great co-ed environment and the central theme of growing and discovering new skills and experimenting with new things.
Littleington University is (in the story) a global university with campuses around the whole world. Each campus is in a location known for its supernatural qualities. You have been accepted into a Para-Biology degree studying the strange phenomenon on the little known island of Kinmandear.
The island is owned by the University and houses the main campus, dorms as well as a small town and a number of local residents. The island is the protected habitat of the strange supernatural creatures that dwell there.
In order to protect local residents and the local environment all children and family's have been relocated to the mainland, making the new university students the youngest people on the island. People have a habit of treating them... Oddly... perhaps due to a strange influence the island has over them?
The progression of the game is focused around exploring the island while meeting the local residents, other students and studying the local supernatural phenomenon. The central story-line revolves around earning your degree while discovering the secret behind the island and Littleington University. Your side-quests revolve around meeting and helping the local residents. They can teach you many new techniques to help in your journey and if you befriend them they might just ask you to come live with them. But be careful, they might have strange plans for you....
There will be a simple combat style engine built in. This will revolve around earning cool new supernatural abilities that help you explore the island and fight off strange creatures. With several tech trees that might relate to whom you learn your new skills from.
Mechanically it will be a simple RPG style system with a single character (you). But abilities designed to work together and combine in interesting and unexpected ways, encouraging experimentation. This system will weave together with a stamina system re-charged by eating and drinking different foods and items as well as resisting or accepting the effect the island is having on you (you can take a guess as to what affect this might be...).
Phew... Okay that was allot of information to dump down. Obviously allot of this is subject to change but the broad strokes will likely to remain the same. As I test things I'll be throwing out stuff that doesn't work and adding things that do. But the format of an island gives a good predictable space, and I like the idea of structuring the game around exploration and forging relationships with the local town.
This is by the way I'm planning of linking those previous concepts of factions and a main story. The main story is just what is the secret behind the island. But the factions are the townspeople, their side-quests and what they know about the island. This is also how I'm planning on weaving the ABDL content into the game. The townspeople are the ones that will typically want to baby you and your friends. Each set in a different way.
So that's my current thinking. I'll be cutting the trailer together this week and hopefully I'll be starting creating the basic dialogue system this weekend.
