Unlike Janis or Jenelle, not all witches specialize in transmutations.

But Katrina doesn't specialize in anything... With little innate magic to boot, she'd been stuck helping her master retrieve components and ingredients for their spells and concoctions. But, as apprentices are prone to be, she had grown impatient with just fetching supplies and studying what her master does with them.

She thought she could impress her master by making herself a familiar, maybe then she could prove she was ready for the next stage. From what she'd seen, gaining a familiar is like a rite of passage among mages.

Attaining a familiar, however, is a complex ritual, done in many ways: one could summon a creature from another plane, enlighten a beast, or even transmute a person. There were many more possibilities, but Katrina was going to formulate hers from scratch with a little alchemy, which is considered probably among the most complex methods --one could say she was ambitious; but really, she hardly knew better.

And performing magic during a full moon? And beastly magic, no less? A more seasoned witch would know how potent, even volatile, magic can be at the height of the lunar cycle.

Even if she had all the formulations correct, the apprentice had little control over the situation...

Feeling like a real witch for a change, Katrina excitedly tossed in her ingredients and stirred gingerly, but the cauldron's bubbling brew frothed and foamed with little warning, suddenly erupting from the pot in a thick green cloud that overtook the young witch. She had little time to realize this was a mistake as her body warped and tore her clothing.

Katrina's paws hit the floor as she coughed and panted, she tried compose herself despite the whirlwind of changes that had overtaken her, leaving her furry and nude. She heard her master's voice call out from across the manor...
