Update about listing your names on videos (Patreon)

Hey gang! I wanted to give you a quick update on how I’ll be handling supporter shout-outs in my videos going forward.

As you may know, I’ve always made it a point to list and read off the names of some higher-tier patrons supporters at the end of every video as a way of showing my appreciation for your generosity. However, as I've been trying to make shorter, off-the-cuff videos, I think it's best to change it up for those.

The main reason for this is that it takes a while to read and list off all the names, and if I'm trying to make shorter videos then that section of the video takes up a high percentage of the video's runtime. The YouTube algorithm rewards videos that have high retention rates, and for shorter videos, every second counts. Especially when the video is sponsored, since I read ad spots at the end of videos also.

Basically, I just don't want the last third of the video to be stuff that people might likely skip over.

So, if it's cool with you all, I will only be listing off supporter names at the end of longer, fully-scripted video essays where I feel there’s more wiggle room for shout-outs without affecting the retention time too much. For shorter videos that aren't sponsored, I’ll still make it a point to thank supporters and acknowledge your contributions in the spot where a sponsor typically would be.

I hope you all understand the reasoning behind this decision and know that my appreciation for your support hasn’t waned in any way. I’m still committed to creating high-quality content that you can enjoy, and with your continued backing, I know I can keep growing and improving as a creator.
