Some of you already know this, but for those who don't NerdSync was recently approached by a group of other comic book channels to join forces and build a central hub of comic book YouTubers. The video explains everything in a bit more detail. I want to know your honest opinions about this. If you have any questions, I will try my best to answer them. Thanks everyone!

First of all, congratulations. I have no Idea who this website might be, but getting recognized is pretty awesome. As for opinions, absolutely wait for the website to come up before making the final decision. However, with the information I have, I think it's a yes. I wouldn't worry about the E-mail responses taking time. People get busy. I'm working on a project for a biggish Youtuber. On multiple occasions, he wrote that he'll get back to me in "about a week" and I didn't hear from him for about 3 months. I understand wanting the name NerdSync on the videos, and if they agree with a compromise that's great. But you will need to think hard about how important your individuality is to you, and if it's more important then exposure to your target audience. This point also goes for the intentions of this company. Whether they want to team up with you because they think you'ed be a great addition to the website, or they're just doing this to benefit themselves (It's probably both) it doesn't really matter. If you still hold creative control on your content, and you can still share your content on all of your platforms. It seems the benefits landslide the costs. I would still wait for the website to come up just to see if you like it and the audience it attracts.

If you can't get a compromise with the bumper, try and see if you can make an end slate for nerdsync that still is "nerdsync" and then you can end it with the beginning bumper (like revision3 does) Overall I think that if you can compromise with that bumper, go for it, but if not, then cut it loose.

NerdSync

I just feel like it's going to be branding overload. Their bumper, then the CM bumper, then also the NerdSync bumper later. Just too many things to me.

NerdSync

It's not so much about retaining individuality as it is getting the NerdSync name out there. Sure, we could get more exposure for the videos, but the videos won't say NerdSync, so what's the point? The NerdSync name wouldn't be gaining any exposure because of this deal. In fact, since this will affect a lot of our old videos as well, it could actually hurt the NerdSync name. The exposure thing is kind of a double edged sword. On one hand, we get more views and potentially more subscribers and fans. The cost is that we essentially stop promoting the name of NerdSync. So it would be helping us with YouTube statistics, but it wouldn't be helping the brand as a whole to gain any sort of traction outside of YouTube. I don't know if I'm describing it well, but I hope that makes sense.

Yea, I think your best bet would be to try and reach that compromise and/or wait till it's already been unveiled.

It makes sense. Although you bring up good points I haven't thought of, I would still argue my case further. From my understanding the videos would still be on the NerdSync channel. so while it will be viewed on a different website, it will still be on that channel that anyone can click the subscribe button too. But it seems there is an emotional element as well. That's a very good thing, NerdSync exists because of how you feel about comic books and comic book Youtube shows. You've stated a few times that you're always trying to be a bit diffident. That decision is the reason NerdSync is awesome, and it's a decision mostly rooted in emotion. So... As cheesy as it sounds.... I'm basically telling you to follow your heart. Assess the pros and cons, make sure your decision is informed. But you need to be able to stand by your decision or it won't work.

NerdSync

I see it as the videos will be embedded on their website, so it won't really show our channel name, just the video name. And also, if our video get embedded across other sites, those also won't say NerdSync anymore. It would only say NerdSync on the YouTube watch page. I'm not really an emotional person at all. Bryce and Chris often call me robotic and cold making comparisons to Spock because I always try to do the logical thing regardless of whether it's the "right" thing or the "nice" thing. We fight a lot about that kind of stuff. I think the real root of the problem is that I can't find a clear decision here logically. I've talked to a bunch of people and it seems pretty split. Plus, I don't see what they could offer me that I don't already have. Derek Sivers has a simple philosophy that I try to stick by: Are you happy? Are your fans happy? Are you profitable? Isn't that enough? Right now, we're a "yes" to all of those. While it'd be nice to get additional views or subscribers, I don't see it as necessary. NerdSync is growing at a fine rate as it is, and we don't make a ton of money, but it's enough (especially with the help of Patreon). I'm happy, I think the fans are happy, we're profitable, and that should be enough. But then that idea is challenged by all of you and some of my friends saying that we should go for it. So it's a little stressful and confusing.
