Although this was his first full length album his first mini-album came out the year prior (that had "Crazy", "Deja Boo", & "Hallelujah" on it which you already heard. ) Glad you loved it, but I knew you would 😊

Every single project he put out was well thought out and baby slaved over his music and I think the fruits of his labor is evident. Jonghyun as an artist is incredible. We were blessed to live in the same time, truly.

By the way, all the pictures on the lyric vids are from the photobook of the album. No, jiffy peanut butter doesn't have anything to do with the album per se....it just goes with the styling. His Powerpuff Girls sweater is actually from Jeremy Scott's Moschino line and that combined with the other colorful clothes & hair gives everything a pop art cartoony feel that the peanut butter fits right in with. Jeremy Scott's clothes were everywhere in kpop a few years ago & Jonghyun had even worn some of his 90s inspired Loony Tunes outfits the year before for the SHINee "Married to the Music" photobook & promotions.

THANK YOU so much for this, you have NO idea how much I've been wanting you guys to react to Jjong's albums!! Jonghyun's voice, the way he controls it to convey his emotions, his sense of musicality, his writing & composing style, just about everything about him, is out of this world! I HIGHLY recommend that you do a first listen on his "The Story The Collection Op.2" right after this to see the contrast between his musical styles and artistry. Jonghyun said that he has two sides to him: The idol one (expressed in "Base" mini-album, "She Is" album and ofc, SHINee) and the more introspective/artistic one ("The Story The Collection" Op.1 and Op.2). He said that both sides are real, both sides are him but he chose to continue his music career writing in two diffeerent styles in order to express both properly. His final album " Shinin'" is like a cross between the two and it's a true masterpiece. THANK YOU THANK YOU for this, looking forward to more Jonghyun reactions!!!

Super super excited that you did this review! I've been waiting to get back to my computer and internet to check this out. And as always I really appreciate the way you break down your thoughts and consider the artist. As far as how he sings and the experimental ways he played with his voice, Micheal Jackson was a huge influence for him. This was from an interview for MUTE from 2015: Jonghyun: Michael Jackson is the singer who had the greatest effect on me when I just debuted. It’s like I absorbed Michael Jackson with how much I copied (his vocal styles) extensively. When I sang 'Love Like Oxygen' and 'Juliette', I applied Michael Jackson’s way of singing, like it’s ingrained in my being. I sang a lot using his image." But he listened to sooo much music so who knows how many layers of other influencers are there. As far as crafting his songs, he had a fascination with creating characters to speak through. So many of his songs were based on stories. Even for the SHINee songs he wrote: Juliette was based on 'Romeo and Juliette,' Obsession based on 'The Black Cat’ by Edgar Allan Poe, and Orgel (Music Box) inspired by 'The House of Wax.' Then the listeners of his radio show Blue Night sent in stories about their days or lives that he turned into the songs he including in the Story Op albums. (The other thing that is awesome about the Story albums is that, not only were they all written by Jonghyun, but they were all almost exclusively composed by him and his Wefreaky team) Skeleton Flower off the first one and Elevator off the second one are probably my favorite. Like Lily_X_M said they show a different side of his character than the other 3 albums but they also expand his musicality so much. They are a lot more intimate and infuse more of his desire to communicate on a personal level.

A funny story about Cocktail is that Taemin had heard it while Jonghyun was working on it and asked Jonghyun to give him this song, along with one called 'Already,' and Jong agreed (cause he is the biggest Taemin fanboy and can't say no to the youngest SHINee member, lol). So when Taemin released his Press It album, 'Already' was on there but not Cocktail so the SHINee members would joke about Taemin rejecting the song after taking it from Jonghyun. Taemin had to clarify that he tried to sing it but it was just too high and he would have had to sing it live as well- so they tried recording it in lower octaves but it didn't feel right anymore. So ultimately Taemin gave it back since it suited Jonghyun's voice and album more. I can't imagine it any other way. lol.

He said in an interview during this album promotion that he's really inspired by Prince! I think that makes a lot of sense. He has great taste.

PLS react to the Cocktail live performance that's on youtube! It's shot by a fan, so the quality could be better, but he KILLS it and it's one of the best live performances by him that I've seen. Super sexy vibes
