Hey friends and fans, another Plot Bunny has been born! Seriously, they’re breeding out of control! I have three or four more already queued up! I need to separate the Bunnies before they breed completely out of control!

This Quirk comes from two characters, one more than the other, but I thought it would be a good Quirk for Izuku! As for the character his Quirk was derived from, well...this will inform those in the know: “Mingo!!!”

He’ll be underestimated at first, but a certain Hero notices his spirit and takes interest! This leads to his underestimated Quirk becoming much, much stronger!

I hope you enjoy!

The String Hero!

All men are not created equal. That is a simple fact of life. Six generations ago the Human Paradigm shifted in a way no one could have ever predicted. The emergence of Super Powers, which would later come to be called ‘Quirks’ appeared in a single baby born in China. From there these powers seemed to spread like wildfire throughout Humanity. The very next generation had a record of ten percent of all births manifesting a Quirk by age four. The third was even higher with twenty five percent of people having a Quirk. The fourth generation had a fifty percent Quirk manifestation rate. The fifth generation had an eighty percent manifestation rate. In the current sixth generation it had spiked to ninety five percent of all children being born with either a Mutation Type Quirk of some kind or manifesting a Transformation Type or Emitter Type Quirk by age four. Humanity had changed more in the last one hundred fifty years than at any other time in their evolutionary history.

“Mommy! Mommy! Look, look! I made strings!” Midoriya Izuku gleefully announced to his mother, Inko. Turning to look at her son she smiled brightly seeing the long thin strands coming from her son’s fingertips. It seemed her own mother’s Quirk had skipped a generation and manifested in Izuku. It was too bad that she had passed shortly after Izuku was born, she’d have been delighted to teach Izuku some ways to use it.

“That’s amazing, honey!” Inko hugged Izuku happily. “We’ll get you registered at the Doctor’s office as soon as we can get an appointment, ok?” Izuku only nodded while happily hugging his mother back. The young four year old was happy to play with his newly awakened Quirk.

-Doctor’s Office-

“Clearly an Emitter Type.” The Doctor smiled at the young boy while taking a sample of the string the boy produced. “We’ll run an analysis on the string to determine what it’s made from. We wouldn’t want young Izuku to be using up his cells or anything if that is what the strings are made of.”

“Thank you, Doctor.” Inko bowed and the Doctor nodded as he pulled up the Quirk Registry form on his computer. “Before you go, we should get Izuku registered.” Inko nodded and Izuku was all smiles as they filled out his Quirk Registry.

-Registry-

Name: Midoriya Izuku

Quirk: Strings

Type: Emitter

A week later and the tests had come back. Izuku’s strings were apparently converted through his body from what he ate and his own dead or damaged cells. His Quirk essentially used his food and the cells his body would normally remove to create his strings. A side benefit of his Quirk was that young Izuku would probably never have to worry about cancer of any kind. Though an increase in appetite would become more noticeable as he aged and his Quirk got stronger.

Further testing revealed that his strings were incredibly durable and boasted a tensile strength of about three hundred kilograms. It was by far the strongest thread on Earth and Izuku could potentially become very wealthy just by producing strings for use in specialty manufacturing. The strings could also withstand high temperatures, not burning until they hit temperatures of around fourteen hundred degrees Celsius.

It was safe to say that Izuku was more than happy with his Quirk. When he showed it off to his peers at preschool most thought it was interesting enough. Kacchan just thought it wouldn’t be very good for beating up Villains. Though Kacchan had become a bit mean ever since he’d manifested his Explosion Quirk. The ash blonde wanted to be the best at everything. Being second place to anybody seemed to be unacceptable to the boy.

So it went that Izuku spent his Elementary years practicing with his Quirk. He learned that a part of his Quirk allowed him to manipulate his strings to form shapes or to even remain static in motion. This seemed to be a remnant of his mother’s ‘Psychic’ subtype and Izuku experimented with it heavily. His friendship with Katsuki slowly became more strained as the ash blonde became more and more prideful and arrogant about his powerful ‘Explosion’ Quirk. In the last year of Elementary School this came to a head when Bakugo had become a full on bully. The two children fought for the first time and Izuku put his years of practice and experimentation to the test.

“You think your strong, Izuku?!” Bakugo roared at his childhood friend his hands crackling with small explosions.

“This isn’t about being strong, Kacchan!” Izuku retorted a glare directed at Bakugo. “Heroes don’t pick on others and hurt them!”

“What would you know?! Your Quirk isn’t even half as good as mine!” Bakugo snarled as he set off a stronger explosion.

“What you’re doing is wrong, Kacchan! I’ll stop you if I have to!” Izuku declared and Bakugo snapped, launching himself at Izuku with blasts from his hands.

“You loser!” Bakugo roared as he flew through the air towards Izuku, ready to blast the other boy. The sudden halt of his momentum in midair confused the ash blonde. “What the hell is this?” He demanded as he struggled to move.

“Restraint String.” Izuku informed as he used the near invisible strings from his body to hold Bakugo still.

“Damn it!” Bakugo growled as he set off an explosion in each hand. The strings loosened a bit and the blonde dropped to the ground. “That won’t work again!” He declared as his hands continuously emitted explosions. Each successive blast getting stronger as Bakugo’s Quirk ramped up from his increased sweating.

“Bullet String.” Izuku pointed his index finger at Bakugo and the blonde stumbled backwards as something small and fast struck him in the chest.

“Ow!” Bakugo growled as he glared at Izuku. “I kill you!” He roared as he rushed in and set off an explosion. Izuku stumbled back from the blast but prevented Bakugo from capitalizing on it by making a spider-like web between himself and the blonde. Said blonde was snarling out threats as he’d run headlong into the unyielding net and fallen on his ass. Bakugo blasted the net but his explosions weren’t strong enough to break the strings. Not to mention most of the force of his blast didn’t hit the strings themselves, merely moved through the empty space between them. The heat his Quirk generated was also far less than what was required to burn the strings.

“Spider Web works well.” Izuku mumbled to himself as he stood back up. Bakugo realizing he couldn’t force his way through, decided to go over the net and launched himself into the air. When he was over the barely visible net his arms suddenly moved behind him, against his own will, and he ended up crashing into the dirt a few meters away from Izuku.

“What the hell are you doing?” Bakugo demanded as his arms folded themselves behind his back. No matter how much he strained against the force he couldn’t move his arms the way he wanted to.

“Puppet String.” Izuku replied as Bakugo felt his legs start to move against his will. “I use my strings to wrap around and control a person’s limbs. The more strings I use the more control I have over the person.” Bakugo howled in anger as Izuku made him walk forward and perform a full bow to Izuku. It was the green-haired boy’s way of making Bakugo ‘apologize’ since he doubted he’d ever get a verbal apology.

“As soon as you let me go I’m kicking your ass!” Bakugo threatened as he glared at Izuku from his forced bow.

“Kacchan, just watch.” Izuku sighed as he swiped his hand through the air above both of their heads. Several branches from surrounding trees fell to the ground all around the two boys. Bakugo wasn’t an idiot; he was rather intelligent and understood the implications of what Izuku had just demonstrated. If the green-haired boy had wanted to, he could have sliced Katsuki apart the very first time he’d been caught. “I can control the properties of my strings as well as manipulate them. I don’t use this aspect much for obvious reasons.”

“Fine.” Bakugo huffed out grudgingly. “Just get these damn strings off of me!”

“They’re gone.” Izuku said not a second later and Bakugo moved his arms around.

“I won’t put the extras in their place, but I’m not holding back what I think about them!” Bakugo yelled while pointing at Izuku.

“If you want to be a jerk, fine.” Izuku sighed at Bakugo’s abrasive personality. At the very least the ash blonde wouldn’t be physically harming anyone now. The two parted ways after their fight and Bakugo kept his word not to physically harm anyone he deemed an ‘extra’. It didn’t stop his rude and explosive comments towards others but he usually only snapped at people that said something about him; or looked at him in any way that he found ‘funny’ or ‘disrespectful’.

Izuku did find it almost ‘fun’ to use his ‘Puppet Strings’ on Bakugo though. The ability to force an opponent into submission without hurting them, or potentially have Villains fight each other could be incredibly useful as a Hero. He’d have to look into his Quirk more. It was a versatile Quirk to be sure, but Izuku felt there was still far more he could do with it.

-First Day of Junior High-

Izuku sat in his assigned seat and prepared for homeroom. He was a bit early, as shown by the fact that only about a quarter of the class was present, but he figured it was better to be early rather than late. He was pulling out his notebook when someone took the seat next to his. Looking over he discovered it was a girl. A rather cute girl with chin-length, pale gray hair, parted to the right, hanging down over her eye and obscuring the majority of the left side of her face. She had dark bags under her blue eyes, and a small mouth with full lips. Izuku felt his cheeks heating up as he looked at the girl. He also noticed she seemed to carry her hands in a fixed position held up as high as her elbows, with her hands draped down, sort of like how ghosts were drawn in the olden days.

“Your gaze has been upon me for a prolonged moment, might there be something I can help you with?” The girl asked Izuku, just as he realized he’d been staring at her. With a jolt he shook himself and tried to speak coherently.

“Oh, uh, um, I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stare.” Izuku apologized with a small bow. “I’m Midoriya Izuku; it’s nice to meet you.”

“It is good to make your acquaintance Midoriya Izuku, I am called Yanagi Reiko.” Reiko introduced herself.

“Nice to meet you, Yanagi-san.” Izuku smiled at the girl. She was rather…verbose…speaking without contractions and in a lengthier manner. Was it weird that he found it endearing?

During the first year of Junior High, Izuku and Reiko would speak with each other daily. Reiko’s slight stoic nature, manner of speaking, and the fixation she had with her arm placement when she walked or was standing kept her from being a social butterfly like most of the girls in their class. She was friendly enough with them but seemed to spend more time with Izuku than anybody else. The two became rather close throughout their first year of Junior High. Reiko enjoyed his friendship and even found his hobby of cataloging and studying Quirks interesting, rather than weird like most of his classmates.

Finding out about Reiko’s ‘Poltergeist’ Quirk and its ‘Psychic’ subtype, specifically Telekinesis, had made Izuku go off on a lengthy mumbling spree about it. Reiko was barely able to keep up with her friend’s muttering but was amazed at all the things she did hear about her Quirk. Izuku was rattling off ideas about her Quirk’s limitations, potential, and ways to work around her limits that she couldn’t help but be impressed. She was also impressed by Izuku’s ‘Strings’ Quirk and all of the ways he’d found, so far, to use it.

Reiko was surprised on her birthday in February to be given a gift from Izuku. Opening the package had revealed a blanket, woven from Izuku’s Quirk, and in her favorite color of silvery white. She’d thanked him gratefully for the gift and surprised both of them when she’d given him a hug for it. Both were left red-faced afterwards. Reiko adored her blanket and her parents could only smile when they saw their daughter walking around the house with it draped over her shoulders.

Izuku had received a gift for his next birthday as well. Reiko, knowing of his admiration of All Might had gotten him a newly released book about the Number One Hero. It was a compendium of All Might’s Hero Career, including his beginnings and his most notable feats and achievements. Izuku had been over the moon to receive the gift and had asked Reiko to go to the local ‘Summer Festival’ with him on the spot.

“Do you desire me to accompany you for the evening?” Reiko asked blushing.

“I-I’d really, really like it.” Izuku bashfully replied; he could feel himself start to sweat from nervousness.

“I would enjoy that, Izuku.” Reiko agreed and Izuku exhaled in relief that she said yes, in her own way of course. The two met up at the ‘Summer Festival’ and Izuku was stunned to see Reiko in a dark blue yukata with white butterfly designs on it. “Is this…to your liking, Izuku?” She asked shyly.

“You look amazing.” Izuku smiled brightly at her. Reiko gave him a smile of her own at his compliment and the two started walking through the festival together. They tried the food at a few stalls, had some sweets, and played some games. When it came time for the fireworks the two sat next to each other on a bench with a good view. They both enjoyed the fireworks and Izuku stiffened up when he felt Reiko laid her head on his shoulder. Looking over at her Izuku couldn’t stop the smile that came to his face. She looked so happy and content, which was so far from her normally stoic expression. He really wanted to see her like this more often.

“Izuku, if you would like, you may put your arm around my w-waist.” Reiko offered a hit of pink on her cheeks.

“O-oh…thank you, Reiko.” Izuku stuttered; but he did gently wrap his arm around her waist and pull her close to his side. By the end of the festival Izuku walked Reiko home, a soft goodnight was said and her parents gave him an open invitation to visit whenever he liked. Reiko and Izuku grew closer after their ‘date’ and Izuku brought her to his apartment to meet his mother.

“My baby boy has a girlfriend!” Inko was so happy she had tears streaming form her eyes. After the stuttering and blushing that her exclamation had caused, Inko and Reiko had talked and gotten to know one another. Inko took a great liking to the polite girl and had welcomed her in their home anytime she wanted to come over. It was no surprise to any of the parents that Izuku and Reiko started dating before summer ended.

-Near the End of Second Year Junior High-

“Are you sure I can do this?” Reiko questioned her boyfriend as they were standing together in a park that allowed moderate Quirk usage.

“One hundred percent, Rei-chan!” Izuku smiled widely. “From everything you’ve told me about your Quirk, you should definitely be able to do this!”

“Very well, I trust you.” Reiko nodded as she focused on her Quirk. Izuku watched on with a proud smile. He and Reiko had been training their Quirks together ever since they’d become friends. After learning everything he could about his girlfriend’s ‘Poltergeist’ Quirk he’d suggested she try this new application of her power. He’d used his own power to create a soft safety net below her just in case though. He’d never let her get hurt if possible, especially not from one of his ideas.

“There it is.” Izuku couldn’t have smiled wider or brighter if he tried. Reiko was floating off the ground under her own power! Using her Quirk on herself had never been Reiko’s forte, but with practice she’d gotten used to it. This was the culmination of their practice together for the last few months. Reiko opened her eyes after a few moments and looked out over the park. She was easily ten meters in the air and smiled at her progress. With a smile she began to fly around the area a bit, always keeping Izuku’s safety net underneath her. This was something she’d never thought she’d do and she was amazed at the freedom it granted her. She descended a few minutes later with a little sweat on her forehead from the strain of her new ability. Izuku handed her a bottle of water and a towel which she gratefully accepted.

“You mentioned that you wished to try out an idea of your own, Izu-kun. I would like to see what you have come up with.” Reiko smiled softly at him and Izuku nodded with a grin. The barely visible strings appeared around Izuku for a moment before the verdette began to lift off the ground. Reiko looked on with a gentle smile as her boyfriend lifted off the ground and began to ‘fly’ around. Anyone that didn’t know about Izuku’s Quirk would assume he was flying. But Reiko knew what to look for and noticed dozens of strings all around the trees near them. Knowing the amount of weight that each of her boyfriend’s strings could support on their own made it easy for Izuku to support himself and manipulate them to carry him through the air. He’d probably be even more mobile in an urban environment with plenty of tall buildings to anchor his strings to. Izuku came down a few minutes later with a beaming smile and Reiko was pulled into a warm hug.

“We can both fly!” Izuku laughed happily as he hugged his girlfriend. Reiko returned the hug, enjoying the warmth of Izuku’s embrace. A few moments later they separated and Izuku used his strings to create a hammock between two trees. Reiko pulled the blanket Izuku had given her from the backpack she’d brought and the couple was quickly cuddled together in the hammock. Anybody coming upon them would involuntarily let out an ‘Aww’ at how cute the couple looked all snuggled up together.

-Months Later ~ Izuku’s Third Year of Junior High-

“You’re all Third Years now; it’s time for you to start seriously considering your futures.” Their Homeroom teacher told the class as he looked at them from the podium. “While normally I would pass out these career aptitude tests…why bother? I know you all want to be Heroes!” The entire class, barring two, cheered as they showed off their Quirks. “Yes, yes, you all have very nice Quirks; but using them at school is against the rules! So restrain yourselves!”

“Hey, sensei, don’t lump me in with all these extras!” Bakugo spoke up, he may not be a full on bully but he still stated his opinion of anyone and everyone without hesitation. “This lot would be lucky to end up as Sidekicks to a busted D-Lister. I’m the real deal!” Predictably his fellow classmates had something to say about that as they all tossed insults his way. “Bring it on! I’ll take you all on!”

“Hmm, you do have impressive test results.” The teacher commented. “Maybe you will get into UA.” Cue the shocked exclamations of the rest of the class that Bakugo was trying to get into the Number One Hero School.

“That’s why UA is perfect for me!” Bakugo replied as he stood up from his seat. “I aced all the mock tests! I’ll be more popular than All Might himself and become the richest Hero of all time! People all across the world will know my name! And it all starts with UA!”

“Oh yes, Midoriya, Yanagi, you both applied for UA as well, right?” The teacher asked looking over his paperwork. Izuku sighed seeing Bakugo grumble about not being the only one.

“Yes, sensei.” Izuku and Reiko both replied and all of the other students in their class whispered among themselves.

“Midoriya and Yanagi too?” One guy whispered.

“I mean…I could see it.” A girl nodded.

“Have you seen what they can do during the Quirk Application Course of P.E.? They both have a shot, probably.” Another student spoke up.

“Settle down class, we still have work to do today.” The teacher quickly brought the class back under control. Izuku glanced over at Reiko and smiled when their eyes met. Reiko smiled softly at him in return before they both turned to focus on the lesson.

-After School-

Izuku was walking home on his usual path from school. He and Reiko lived in different directions so the second half of his walk home was always by himself. As he made his way underneath the overpass he was startled to hear a strange sound from behind him. Turning around Izuku was witness to a large mass of sludge pouring out of the sewer. The sludge then took on a vaguely humanoid shape as two large eyes and a mouth full of teeth appeared.

“Damn it, I need to hide!” The sludge growled before spotting Izuku. “Oh, a medium-size skin suit, perfect!” Izuku was staring at the sludge worriedly when the man moved for him. Izuku jerked back and managed to avoid the grasping tendrils of sludge.

“Back off!” Izuku yelled as he lashed out with his strings, slicing the sludge into pieces with how fast the thin, wire-like strings were moving.

“What the hell was that?!” The villain roared out as he pulled himself back together. By the time the villain had reformed Izuku had already made it out from under the overpass tunnel. The villain saw the boy running and began to give chase. Both Izuku and the villain stopped when a bang came from the tunnel.

“Never fear, for I am here!” A loud man’s voice called out and both Izuku and the villain turned to stare at the man who’d just showed up. One with the sparkling eyes of a fanboy, while the other with eyes full of fear.

“All Might!” Izuku exclaimed in shock, he never expected to meet his idol today!

“Damn it!” The villain cried out as he tried to make a break for it. All Might suddenly appearing in front of him with a fist cocked back ended any thoughts of escape.

“Texas…Smash!” All Might exclaimed as he threw the punch and the wind pressure released by his strength alone splattered the fluid villain across the street.

“Holy crap! That was incredible!” Izuku fanboyed as he watched All Might collect the villain into an empty two liter bottle.

“Sorry that you got caught up in my Hero Work, young man! Are you alright?” All Might asked and Izuku could only nod with starry eyes. “Hahaha! That’s good!”

“Mr. All Might, sir! C-could I…h-have your autograph, please?” Izuku managed to get out as he pulled his Hero Analysis for the Future Number Thirteen Notebook from his bag.

“Of course!” All Might replied as he signed the notebook and passed it back to the teen.

“Thank you so much, sir! This will be a family treasure! An Heirloom passed down for generations!” Izuku thanked the Number One Hero with multiple rapid bows.

“Think nothing of it young man! Now I must be off to turn this villain into the police!” All Might waved as he stuffed the two liter bottle into a pocket of his cargo pants. Izuku could only watch on amazed as his idol leaped away into the distance with his immense strength.

“Mom isn’t going to believe this! I met All Might and got an autograph!” Izuku exclaimed happily as he rushed home to tell his mother. Unfortunately this wouldn’t be the last time Izuku ran into the ‘Sludge Villain’ as the media would come to call him. All Might made a single error in his capture of the villain. A two liter bottle isn’t meant to fit into most pockets, even on cargo pants, not to mention things tend to be knocked out of place when one suddenly accelerates with enough speed to clear several city blocks in one leap. Only when All Might stopped because of his time limit would he realize that his pocket was torn from his excessive speed and the bottle had fallen out at some point during his leap.

-A Short Time Later-

“I got everything on the list.” Izuku smiled as he carried a bag of groceries back to his home. “His Mom hadn’t been planning on making his favorite food, Katsudon, tonight. But seeing as Izuku had met and gotten an autograph from his favorite Hero, Inko decided to celebrate. This led to Izuku volunteering to go get the missing ingredients for her. Now as he was heading back home with said ingredients Izuku was shocked to hear an explosion from afar. “What was that?”

“Hey, apparently some villain is rampaging down the block, there’s a bunch of pros on scene!” An older teen told his friends close to where Izuku was walking the three older teens looking at the first teen’s phone. Izuku, ever the Hero fanboy decided to take a look. Rushing to the scene Izuku was able to make his way to the front of the crowd. The scene was crazy, buildings were on fire, and there was smoke in the air and explosions kept going off further down the street. Izuku saw the Rescue Hero Backdraft trying to contain the fires, the new up and comer Hero Kamui Woods was rescuing civilians trapped in the buildings while the Hero Death Arms was trying to yell over the explosions. But what made Izuku puzzled was when he saw the Sludge Villain from before, after all, hadn’t All Might captured him? But what made Izuku act without even a passing thought, was the sight of Bakugo Katsuki trapped in the villain’s grip while trying to fight back. The look in the blonde’s red eyes was one of fear and pain, the eyes of someone begging for help.

“Katsuki!” Izuku yelled as he bolted passed the police line and charged down the street towards the villain.

“Stop kid!” Death Arms yelled but Izuku couldn’t hear anything but his own heartbeat.

“Let him go!” Izuku roared and swiped his arm straight up. Before the villain even had time to recognize Izuku the portion of his body that held Bakugo had separated from the rest of him. Bakugo fell from the suddenly inanimate sludge and hacked and coughed to clear his airway and breathe.

“You little shit!” The Sludge Villain roared as he swung tendrils at Izuku. They were diced to droplets before they could get halfway to Izuku. The Sludge Villain was suddenly deluged with strings. The threads were literally everywhere and he was finding it hard to move his fluid body as more and more thread sank into him. “What the hell are you doing to me?”

“Adding fibrous material to mud, or sludge in your case, makes it clump together.” Izuku explained as he used his threads to pull Bakugo away from the villain and behind him. “Mt. Lady!” Izuku yelled as he used his strings to throw the villain straight upwards. The new Hero started at hearing her name before looking at the villain that was now at eye level with her giant form. “Smash him!” Izuku yelled out.

“I get it.” Mt. Lady quickly realized what the kid wanted her to do. Before the villain could start falling, the giant Hero slammed her palms together with him in between. A wet splat was heard throughout the area and Mt. Lady grimaced at the feeling between her hands. She knelt down and Kamui Woods landed next to her.

“Need something to put him in?” Kamui Woods asked.

“Please, this feels so gross.” Mt. Lady stated with a grossed out look on her face. Kamui Woods used his ‘Arbor’ Quirk to create a solid barrel and Mt. Lady scraped the unconscious villain off her hands. Once the villain was secure all of the civilians cheered for the Heroes’ victory. Bakugo and Izuku got checked out by paramedics and Izuku was scolded by the Heroes a bit for jumping into the incident. Though Mt. Lady went a bit easy on him as Izuku did leave the villain to the Heroes as soon as he saved the hostage. The boost that it would give her new career might also have influenced her a little bit.

“Thanks, Izuku.” Bakugo forced out and Izuku was stunned that the ash blonde had actually thanked him. “But I’ll never need to be saved again! You hear me!” Izuku nodded as Bakugo huffed and walked off. Well, Bakugo was still Bakugo, at least he was consistent. Izuku was walking back home with his bag of ingredients, he’d already called his mother to explain the situation and why he was late, Inko told him to get home safely and that she’d be waiting. He wasn’t expecting what happened next.

"I am here!" All Might called out as he appeared dashing out of an alley in front of Izuku.

"All Might! What are you doing here?" Izuku questioned since he hadn’t seen the man watching on in his true form near the edge of the crowd.

"I wanted to speak with you, young man." All Might laughed loudly as he put his fists on his hips.

"You wanted to speak with me? What about?" Izuku asked, wondering what his idol had apparently searched for him directly to talk to him about.

"Earlier, when you ran to face the sludge villain to save that other boy…" All Might began, making Izuku's eyes widened that All Might had seen him saving Bakugo. "Your legs moved on their own, right? You saw someone in need of help and you ran to save him even though you saw that the professional heroes couldn't do anything. Am I right?"

“Y-yes, sir, All Might.” Izuku got out after a moment. He didn’t stop to think about it, he’d seen Bakugo trapped and just moved.

"That is the truest mindset of a Hero, young man. You move to help others without consciously thinking about it. You moved in to save that other boy because he needed help and it was the right thing to do." All Might said with a huge smile on his face. Izuku thought he might be dreaming right now. His idol, All Might, was here praising his actions as Heroic! “Young…” The Number One Hero stopped for a moment since he didn’t know Izuku’s name.

“Oh! Sorry, sir! My name is Midoriya Izuku!” Izuku introduced himself with a bow.

“Good to properly meet you, young Midoriya!” All Might nodded. “Young Midoriya, I have a proposition for you.” The large man stated and Izuku looked on curiously. “Can we talk in private for a bit?” The green-haired teen nodded rapidly and the duo made their way to the top of the building they were standing next too; via All Might picking up Izuku and jumping to the top! Not a minute later All Might was engulfed in a plume of steam or smoke and a haggard, thin man was in his place.

“All Might? What happened? No wait! You’re not really All Might are you?!” Naturally Izuku freaked out wondering if this man was an imposter.

“Settle down kid, I am All Might.” All Might confirmed as he sighed and sat down. “My Hero Form is part of my Quirk.” The blonde man informed the teen.

“Your Quirk?” Izuku murmured to himself his mind running through dozens of options and scenarios. Though almost half of his brain was internally squealing that All Might was going to tell him his Quirk! There had been so much speculation on it over the man’s long career, but he’d never confirmed anything about it!

“Yes, my Quirk is called ‘Bulk Up’; it does exactly what it says and allows me to enhance my physicality at will.” All Might informed the green-haired teen. “The form I take when I use my Quirk is who the people know as All Might.”

“That’s…that’s…incredible All Might!” Izuku exclaimed as he started rapidly muttering to himself. “That would explain why you’re so rarely seen outside of Hero Work. People have been wondering how a man of your stature could possibly blend in with a crowd for years! This explains so much! You have a built-in ‘secret identity’!”

“Wow, you really can belt out the words can’t you?” All Might chuckled making Izuku stop his muttering with a red face. “Listen young Midoriya, what I wanted to talk to you about involves why I look like this.” The Hero started and over the next several minutes Izuku learned of All Might’s critical injury; and of the time constraints on his ability to perform Hero Work.

“What does all of this have to do with you wanting to talk to me though?” Izuku questioned All Might, or Yagi Toshinori as Izuku learned was his real name.

“My Quirk isn’t the true source of my overwhelming Power, young Midoriya.” Toshinori informed the boy as he held up his hand and a rainbow-colored light emitted from his palm. “In truth I was chosen to inherit this great power from another.”

“Chosen?” Izuku questioned his eyes wide in shock. Toshinori explained the true source of his incredible power, the Inherited Quirk ‘One for All’. How the Quirk was passed down from one user to the next, increasing in energy and power with each new user as they added to the Quirk. Currently One for All was the culmination of power and energy of eight Pro Heroes in their prime, one of those Heroes being All Might himself! By the end of the explanation Izuku was abuzz with questions but Toshinori cut him off.

“I’ve actually been looking for a successor to this power, young Midoriya.” Toshinori stated and Izuku was sure he felt his heart stop. “Seeing you with such true Heroic Spirit was inspiring! So I ask you, Midoriya Izuku, will you inherit One for All? Will you become the next Symbol of Peace?”

“Yes, All Might! I won’t let you down!” Izuku answered without thinking, though this decision was made completely by his heart, Izuku would never regret making it!

“No hesitation, just what I’d expect from a true Hero like you, young Midoriya!” Toshinori exclaimed a small amount of blood coming from the corner of his mouth. “Meet me at Takoba Municipal Beach Park this Saturday at seven in the morning! We’ll begin your training to make you a proper vessel for One for All.”

“Yes, sir!” Izuku nodded and a few minutes later the duo parted ways. Dinner was a little later than usual but by the end of the night, after hearing the whole story about the Sludge Villain, Inko was so proud of her son that nothing else mattered. Izuku went to bed that night with a smile on his face.

-Saturday ~ 7am-

“All Might!” Izuku called out to the thin blonde man standing next to a truck.

“Good morning, young Midoriya.” Toshinori smiled. “While I’m in this form call me Toshinori or Sensei; we don’t need my secret getting out.”

“Right, sensei!” Izuku nodded while lowering his voice. Toshinori smiled before explaining the training regime he’d come up with for Izuku to inherit One for All. The regime in question involving cleaning the mountains of trash from Takoba Beach by himself. Izuku’s eyes widened at seeing the trash piled up before Toshinori pulled out a binder. The binder was full of dietary guidelines and a training schedule for the remaining ten months before UA’s Entrance Exam.

“Before we get started, tell me about your Quirk, young Midoriya.” Toshinori requested. “I saw you use it briefly to deal with the Sludge Villain, but what all can you do with it?”

“Well my Quirk is called Strings…” Izuku began and spent the next few minutes going over his Quirk’s capabilities and limitations with the blonde man.

“I see; it’s a very versatile Quirk.” Toshinori nodded to himself. “It also gives me an idea. We’ll train your body and your Quirk during these ten months!”

“How’s that?” Izuku asked wondering what the Number One Hero had thought up.

“We’ll have you practice all sorts of ideas we can come up with for your Quirk on these heaps of trash. With enough practice I’m sure you’ll find a few new uses for your Quirk!” Toshinori smiled widely, matched by Izuku’s own grin at the thought of further developing his Quirk. “Now let’s get started!”

“Yes, sir!” Izuku cheered as he moved towards the heaps of trash. For the next ten months Izuku would build his body by hauling heavy objects and following the workouts Toshinori made for him. His mother was supportive of his training and ‘volunteer work’. Reiko had been worried after seeing the report on TV but Izuku had assured her that he was unharmed. When asked about what he was doing after school so much by his girlfriend, who he realized he wasn’t spending as much time with as he used to, Izuku hadn’t been able to lie to Reiko. He’d texted All Might that he was bringing his girlfriend with him one afternoon and the Number One Hero was, practically, forced to bring Reiko into the secret of One for All.

“You have always been amazing, Izu-kun.” Reiko had smiled at her boyfriend and the level of trust he had in her. She often went with Izuku to Takoba Beach after that day. She’d do some Quirk practice and even some physical exercises while Izuku hauled large pieces of debris or practiced a new idea with his Quirk.

-Time Skip ~ UA Entrance Exam Day-

“In local news, Takoba Municipal Beach Park has been completely cleaned by persons unknown. The beach was known for the last several years as a dumping ground for trash. Local authorities had been stymied in their efforts to combat the out of control dumping and littering. Eyewitness accounts claim that an older man and a teen male were seen occasionally hauling away trash from the beach over the last several months.” The News Reporter on TV said as Izuku got ready for his trip to UA to take the Entrance Exam. He smiled as he saw footage on the screen about how the beach had been revitalized and local families had started coming back to it again. Izuku left the house to words of encouragement from his mother and a nearly rib bruising hug.

Izuku and Reiko walked from the train station to the school entrance hand in hand, a gentle smile on both of their faces. Reiko was a mix of nervous and excited, but having Izuku by her side always helped her calm down.

“You ready for this, Rei-chan?” Izuku smiled at his girlfriend who nodded and squeezed his hand as they headed for the exam hall.

The written exam wasn’t easy, as expected of UA, but both Reiko and Izuku felt they did well enough on it to pass. When it came time to learn what the practical exam entailed Izuku had a small fanboy moment at seeing the Voice Hero: Present Mic on stage going over the exam. Reiko smiled at her boyfriend fondly as she watched. After the explanation the couple found out that they wouldn’t be in the same Exam Site with each other since they went to the same Junior High.

“It’s ok, Rei-chan, you’re going to pass this easily!” Izuku reassured his girlfriend.

“I would like a good luck kiss.” Reiko requested with a blush and Izuku met her lips with his in a brief kiss before they separated. They’d only really started kissing in the last few months; Reiko felt no need to rush their relationship and Izuku agreed with her. Unbeknownst to the couple their respective mothers’ found this to be absolutely adorable.

-Exam Site B-

“Alright…here we are, just have to pass with Rei-chan.” Izuku tried to psyche himself up as he stood outside Exam Site B. It was time to earn his place here at UA and nothing was going to stop him! Izuku thought back to yesterday morning when All Might had passed One for All over to him.

-Flashback-

“You’ve truly earned this young Midoriya; never forget what your hard work has brought you!” Toshinori, in his Hero Form, stated as he removed a strand of hair from his head. Needless to say Izuku had been shocked by the method of transfer, but had pushed past it and swallowed the hair.

“I don’t feel any different?” Izuku mused as he looked himself over.

“Of course not, your body needs time to process and assimilate One for All.” Toshinori, now in his true form, stated with a wave. “Just remember, this Quirk is the culmination of eight Pros at their peaks! It is an immense power and arguably the most powerful Force Multiplier Quirk in existence. It’ll take time and training before you make it your own, but I’ll be there to help you learn, young Midoriya!”

“So does it activate like an Emitter Quirk?” Izuku asked and Toshinori nodded.

“I had a good handle of One for All as soon as I got it. What always worked for me was…”

-Flashback End-

“START!” Present Mic called out loudly from where he stood on a platform at the top of a tower, his voice reaching out across the large testing grounds and to all the various groups of applicants. Everybody in Izuku’s testing group froze up for a moment at the sudden start. “WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! THERE ARE NO COUNTDOWNS IN REAL LIFE! RUN! GO, GO, GO!!!”

With that Izuku and the rest of the examinees dashed forward into the large mock cityscape. Izuku couldn’t out run some of the examinees, like a blue-haired guy with what looked like exhaust pipes in his calves, but he outpaced a good amount of the group. Seeing the blue-haired teen turn and launch himself at a Three Pointer and the only other two examinees that out ran him on the opposite side of the large main street gave Izuku an opening that he was going to exploit.

“Target acquired…eliminate!” Several of the robots intoned and Izuku couldn’t help but grin as he lifted off the ground and soared over the gathering of robots. He swiped his hands multiple times and stopped. He stayed in the air and watched with a grin as most of the robots on the main street fell to pieces. All of them cleanly cut by his thin, razor sharp, wire-like strings.

“I don’t know how many points that was exactly, so I guess I’ll keep going!” Izuku nodded to himself as he used his strings to fly through the cityscape.

-Staff Control Room-

“Well now, it seems we have quite an examinee this year. He has both power and technique with his Quirk. Such control must have taken him a lot of time and effort.” Nezu, the chimera-like Principal of UA commented after watching Izuku’s attack.

“I wonder; what else can his Quirk do?” Ectoplasm, a Hero that wore a long trench coat, wondered aloud as he saw the robots get sliced with such precision by the teen’s Quirk.

-Exam Site B-

As Izuku was ‘flying’ through the cityscape he came upon a group of examinees surrounded by Three Pointers. Seeing the other teens surrounded, and therefore ‘In Danger’, Izuku flew down and used his Quirk on the robots.

“Spear String!” Izuku called out launching ten long, straight strings, well more like wire or cable technically since he’d bundled up dozens upon dozens of his regular strings together for this attack, straight into the Three Pointers. All three robots crashed into the ground with the ‘spears’ sticking out of their heads and bodies.

“Holy shit, what was that?” One of the teens questioned.

“Are you guys alright?” Izuku asked. He received nods from the teens, who were still dumbfounded by what they witnessed, before he flew off to find more robots. It didn’t take long to find some more robots, mostly One and Two Pointers, and Izuku decided to see how well he could control them with his strings. The thin strings descended without the robots noticing. Once Izuku had them all he made a mental command and one of the One Pointers smashed in the head of another. Izuku grinned at his successful test and began to move his fingers like he was manipulating the robots with them. This wasn’t the case of course; Izuku controlled his ‘Puppet String’ move with his mind. But it just kind of felt ‘right’ to move his fingers along with the motions he was making the robots perform.

-Staff Control Room-

“My, oh my, how ingenious.” Nezu laughed as he watched the green-haired examinee make the robots destroy each other.

“Anybody else wondering what this kid hasn’t thought up?” Vlad King asked his co-workers.

-Exam Site B-

In the last five minutes of the test the giant gimmick robot, the Zero Pointer, was unleashed. Izuku, having finished his ‘puppet test’, was trying to figure out how many points he’d gotten by counting the robots he’d destroyed in his head. He watched as the giant robot moved its way down the main street of the fake city towards him. “I see why it’s just a gimmick. Not many Quirks are compatible with an enemy of that size.” Looking down the street and seeing buildings collapsing as the massive machine rolled passed them also let Izuku see quite a few students running from the massive machine. That put them ‘In Danger’ in Izuku’s mind and he flew through the air with his strings while charging up One for All.

“Oh man! That’s a lot!” Izuku grimaced as he felt the power of One for All course through his body. “I feel like I’m going to break apart if I move at all!” He continued to fly towards the behemoth robot as the examinees ran away from it. “Wait! That’s it! If my body can’t take all of this power, maybe my strings can!” With that thought in mind Izuku pushed the power of One for All into his strings. The strings lit up in the rainbow of colors that One for All had glowed when Toshinori had ‘shown’ him the Quirk back on that rooftop almost a year ago. Izuku swiped his hand downward at the Zero Pointer with the glowing strings and came up with a name for the move on the spot. “Penta-Chromatic Strings!” The glowing strings passed through the robot without even slowing down. Izuku hung in the air for a second before watching the Zero Pointer fall into six cleanly cut pieces and crash into the ground.

-Staff Control Booth-

“HOLY SHIT!” Several staff members exclaimed at seeing what the examinee had done to the Zero Pointer.

“Ahahahahaha!” Nezu laughed, near psychotically, as he looked at the destroyed Zero Pointer.

“That’s the way, young Midoriya.” Toshinori whispered in the back of the room as he watched his successor deal with the giant gimmick.

-Exam Site B-

“Annnnd STOP!” Present Mic’s voice was heard throughout the testing grounds. “The exam is over!” Izuku exhaled as he let the adrenaline from dealing with the Zero Pointer leave his system. He was fairly certain he’d gotten enough points to pass the practical; even if he hadn’t actually been able to count them all. He lowered himself to the ground and started heading towards the exit of the Exam Site.

“I should call Rei-chan, I bet she did great!” Izuku grinned at the thought of his girlfriend as he made his way out of the Exam Site and towards the bus. He barely registered the amazed and shocked looks he was getting from the rest of the examinees.

-One Week Later ~ Midoriya Home-

“Izuku! It’s here!” Inko called out as she rushed to her son’s room and handed him the letter that had come from UA.

“Thanks mom, I’m going to open it in my room.” Izuku said as he retreated into his room and sat at his desk. “Ok…you definitely passed Izuku, you and Rei-chan both passed.” He breathed deeply to get shake off his nerves before opening the letter. A small disc-shaped object fell out and started projecting an image.

“Hello, Young Midoriya, sorry about the silent treatment, but there was much paperwork to be done!” All Might bellowed from the image. ‘Why is All Might on the video from UA?’ Izuku wondered, his teacher hadn’t said anything about that! “I’m actually going to be a teacher at UA starting this year!”

“All Might’s becoming a teacher?!” Izuku exclaimed in shock at this new bit of information.

“Now, Young Midoriya, you passed the Written Exam with a very good score! As for your Practical Exam Score; please look at the screen behind me.” The Number One Hero pointed to an electronic board that turned on, showing Izuku’s picture and score.

-Practical Exam Score-

Izuku Midoriya

Villain Points: 97

Rescue Points: 60

Total: 157 Points

-Practical Exam Score-

“As you can see you performed very well! You’re ranked Second for Highest Entrance Exam Score ever in fact!” All Might laughed with his signature smile on his face. “I’m pleased to welcome you to UA High School, Young Midoriya! This will be your Hero Academia!”

“Yes! I did it!” Izuku cheered before he quickly grabbed his phone. “I’ve got to call Rei-chan and make sure she passed too!” A few moments later and Reiko picked up her phone.

“Hello, Izu-kun, you have passed as well then?” Reiko asked and Izuku confirmed for her quickly.

“Yeah, Rei-chan, apparently I’m the first place in our exam. The message also said I was the Second Highest Scorer so ever!” Izuku beamed happily even though no one could see it.

“Since we have both passed that means we can have a ‘movie date’, correct?” Reiko inquired and Izuku felt himself shiver. Reiko was a fan of Horror movies. Several of their dates had been to a cinema that had special showings by genre. While Izuku wasn’t the biggest fan, he’d go to make Reiko happy any day of the week without hesitation.

“Sure thing, Rei-chan. Did you want to go this weekend?” Izuku asked and started to plan a date with his girlfriend.

Standing just outside of Izuku’s door Inko smiled happily for her son, before letting a small giggle escape at hearing how her son’s call with Reiko-chan was going. The sweet girl had become so important to Izuku since they’d met. Their relationship was so adorable Inko had sneakily taken dozens of pictures of them and she and Mrs. Yanagi shared the ones they each took. Both of the mothers’ favorite picture so far was of Izuku and Reiko cuddled together in a hammock while under Reiko’s favorite blanket. It was just too cute!

This was a really good one and now I can’t think of witch bunny I want to be made a story.

Kairomaru

I have three or four more waiting in my brain already! It's going to be a massive poll by the time we hit $1,000/month! *Cackles*

Thomas E Nellis

The Don of Midoriya, Rei is an interesting choice of love interest. When all seems lost the threads answer the call. Honestly best jeanist would be a better teacher than all might in this scenario.

Kairomaru

If this becomes a full story then after the Sports Festival I'll give you one guess who Izuku interns with! Also I'll have a moment where I explain the differences in their Quirks too, just so it's out there.

An interesting read

NTLuck

You know I was thinking what would be the most realistic quirk for Izuku if he wasn't Quirkless? I looked at his parents' quirks and i believe that Fire Breathing from his father and telekinesis from his mother could give powers similar to a Natsu from Fairy Tail. Using Telekinesis to control fire and Fire Breathing would go both ways so he can feed on fire and get powers from it. Add OFA to the mix and he basically becomes an OP Fire Dragon Slayer.

Kairomaru

The next Plot Bunny is actually a Tier Reward for a Patron, and it's a very OP form of Pyrokinesis!

Creature of Grimm

Strings really are a very versatile ability for being such an unassuming thing, at least when they are strong enough. i wonder if he could make actually cloth with his string like the blanket in a fight or if it would take too long to make? if he could it would be a very effective shield/restraint technique with the durability of the strings. i admit i also can't get the image of Bakugou suddenly being put in a straight jacket so he can't even use his quirk out of my head and it makes me chuckle.

Kairomaru

Complex weaves take time so I'm afraid that'll have to be after quite a bit more training. Not to say it won't happen in the future, just not for a while.

Josh

I don't understand what being "static in motion" means. I though it meant his strings didn't need a tether but apparently not

Kairomaru

Static in Motion means that they can hold whatever shape he makes them take, even while they're moving. So, if he had his strings weave together into the shape of something like a ridiculously oversized basket, then they would hold that form, even as they flew through the air.
