These were rough episodes, I understand where you’re coming from regarding Gardar, his circumstances pushed him in to being a “monster,” though he did seem to come back to being his old self as he was dying, but whether he could have been that man again if he weren’t at death’s door is hard to say. And while most people are immediately coming down on Ketil (deservedly) and changing their opinion, a few people have said that he’s now broken/lost his mind given everything going on, and was acting out of desperation/helplessness, taking out his frustrations completely on Arnheid, but still it’s not excusing it. He seemed like he was against violence (wanting to go easy on the kids that were thieves a number of episodes ago, and being afraid of Thorgill), but I guess his feelings have boiled over, and he took it out on someone he knew would be weaker/vulnerable/etc and wouldn’t/couldn’t fight back. Ketil didn’t know she was pregnant, she had said after telling her story to Thorfinn and Einar that she had just found out and was planning to tell him when he got back. I’m not sure that his knowing beforehand would have made any difference given his state of mind though. This really kind of takes away a lot of the stakes in the upcoming battle, though I still feel for some of those on the farm who aren’t Ketil, like Snake, Sverkel, and Pater.

I ended up recording episode 2-19 yesterday and I went into a lot of what you're saying here. With a few days to think about it I had a new perspective.
