Zero Punctuation is great, even if he hates anime - there are different genres of anime, some genres really are all about fighting (shonen) or sex (hentai). No matter what the genre, you're not escaping "anime parents are terrible." This came out in 1980 almost 15 years before the Treck introduced the holodeck, so them having a holodeck here has me wondering when the idea was first invented. I assumed the artificial gravity got knocked out after he fell, like the text you flashed on screen, but in retrospect it isn't very clear (and it'd be a bit odd the gravity got knocked out just for that section of the ship).

I got the date wrong, this came out in 1983. It was created by Tomino, who previously made Gundam. He was originally very opposed to making direct sequels to any of his works, so after 1979's Gundam he made a bunch of other shows (Ideon in 1980, Xabungle in 1982, this and Dunbine in 1983, L-Gaim in 1984) before he finally gave in and made a Gundam sequel series. Basically everything he's done since he gave in and made a direct Gundam sequel have been Gundam sequels. I'm shocked he made so many series that weren't based on any pre-existing books or manga or anything in such a short period. Apparently Tomino was less involved in this show than most of his other works, but the rest of the team were the same as worked on his other shows, it was more a product of the rest of the team than usual.

Yeah its a bit clunky but so far the show has earned the grace to let it slide. We tend to be more forgiving of great shows making errors than bad ones, that's just human nature
