I thought you'd like this for the animated gravity, given your comments about gravity in animation in the Gundam reaction. The expressive facial animation (e.g. Ai's eye) was a draw of the show to me. Ai is Japanese for "love" creating some puns (e.g. with her saying the only thing she needs to leave her family is love to the insurance agent). I don't think them being underpaid is toooooo unbelievable; while space debris is a problem. When a problem effects everyone, no one company wants to be the one company to expend resources fixing it (to the benefit of everyone) - IRL this sort of thing causes environmental work to not be done beyond what the regulators like the EPA require. If the problem is international, things are even worse, as no one country wants to be the one to put in the resources to benefit all countries (difficulty getting consensus on climate change shows this) and space debris would be a global issue. There are lots of companies in space, each with a debris department, that only gets enough resources to appease the regulators (i think this is made more clear in the manga). Still, i don't think anyone working in space would be underpaid, but this is a future where space has been explored so much that it's boring, like the gritty space jobs in Alien you mention. You noticed that the countdown is in English, but some other things are (e.g. "I copy") I think this is to emphasize the space station is international (only a couple of characters are Japanese).

Comparing it to environmental issues really brought it home to me, really good point. I totally get it now
