2x5 is definitely a fan favorite but it never broke the show for me like it did for some people. I think one of the best things about it is that the story and all the surreal supernatural stuff (lily floating with the wires, the banshee scream, and ronny being invincible) is completely self-contained kinda like how you mentioned a short film. No other episodes of the show break all conventions of reality like that one and that’s probably why it never took me out of it. It’s not as extreme but I kinda compare it to stuff like the invisible car or the flamethrower battle in atlanta that never took me out of the grounded parts of the story.

Yeah TV Tropes calls it a "Big Lipped Alligator Moment" and a show is allowed to have one or two of those.
