Fun fact, the writer of the manga also wrote and directed the film. He chose to drastically change the ending of the film to surprise the audience and give the film a proper ending. The manga in its original run actually goes on alot longer

There's so much manga I wanna read and this is now on the list. The production process reminds me of the movie and novel 2001, which were produced at the same time and both of which took cues from the other as the author and the filmmaker worked closely with each other throughout.
