Yes, this show definitely has a strong nighttime soap opera vibe at times. I think that vibe will be strongest, for better or worse, during the long stretch in Season 2 (episodes 8 through 21), where Lynch was only involved for the most part as an actor because he was busy on Lost Highway and/or (depending on the source) had some creative disagreements with ABC.
