The show was definitely quirky and a little weird before Episode 3, but here it gets downright bizarre. You can always see the mark Lynch leaves in the episodes he directs (which is only 6 of 30 in the first two seasons). I think the impact of this episode in 2022 is muted in comparison because we've now been exposed to gazillion sources of programming. But if you step back to 1990, there was really only network TV--this really broke the mold to be on ABC at 10PM. The top TV dramas that year were Murder, She Wrote, Matlock, In The Heat of the Night and LA Law. This is just completely different than those.

Yeah no question about it. There's a reason I heard about this show everywhere I turned at a time in my life where I didn't watch TV.
