Thanks to Andy Jacobs, I'll be doing all of season 1 here, 2 episodes dropping each Sat. (I've heard its just been renewed for 2 more seasons, so reception must have been pretty good.)

Also, for an 11 minute conversation about the way adults dismiss teenage romance, my intro is here: https://youtu.be/KHIMrsl_GT0

Yay, Heartstopper! My friends showed this to me a couple weekends ago and I became a little temporarily obsessed, even tried to buy the graphic novel version of the webcomic this series is based on but they were sold out EVERYWHERE at the time, haven't checked since. I've only watched your intro so far so I'm gonna save commenting on the reaction till later but to answer some of your questions in the intro, I'm not British, just gay XD. So I'm gonna be just as clueless about a lot of stuff when it comes to how they do things across the pond. I like your thoughts on young love; I feel like I saw people not really get taken seriously when they were in a bad relationship in high school, they would be talking about different behaviors of their significant other that are toxic, like their SO being really controlling with how they spend their time, but people don't take it seriously and give them a hard time and joke about, and then the people feel less able to talk about their toxic relationships and stay in them longer than they should, then that takes years of therapy to undo; people should really take teenage romance more seriously!

ALRIGHT. REACTIN TO YOUR REACTION. Stream of consciousness goooo 1) Dunno how british schools work, I'm an american gay dude who went to high school from 2006-20010 so I'm not privy to how anyone does anything now adays, let alone how people do stuff in the Uk haha 2) I remember the first time I watched the scene with the teacher going "come to join the ranks of hamlet house?" and the then out of the the blue suddenly goes "you two could sit in silence for all of ETERNITY and I WOULD. NOT. GIVE. A SHIT." (or something to that effect) and being like "did they delete a scene? What just happened?" but I guess tha teacher is just some random asshole lol. 3) FUCK BEN. Commenting on both the scene where he pretends to not know Charlie and afterwards, I'm sure he has his own issues but still, fuck Ben. 4) Did not have a single thought that Nick looked like a golden retrievier until Thao brought it up and now I can't unsee it; 5) The scene with the blue ink is so dorky but so cute! It's explained in the webcomic how that happens; Nick uses a dip pen and apparently it's easier than you'd expect to spray ink on yourself if you use a dip pen; dunno if that's necessarily true but that's their explanation for how Nick eneded up covered in ink 6) Love Elle! In the webomic she showed up WAY LATER in the story, I love that they took some of Charlie's friends that didn't have much to do until partway through the webcomic and gave them stuff to do from the beginning. I remember my school being kind of uptight about phones (even during lunch) when I went to school but that was 2006-2010, when we were just transitioning from phones that could only text to actual smart phones, they didn't know how to handle that; I think they chilled out a couple years later. 7) Ughhh I wish I had the kind of teacher that Charlie did when I was in high shool; I had to figure all that stuff out completely by myself; luckily I'm 6'3" and developed early so I was tall, even back then lol, so I didn't get bullied much; though therere were still instances where the fact I was gay came up and people would just matter of factly go "Oh, you're gay? I don't like gay people." Like they were talking about fucking licorice or something. I remember all that California Prop 8 stuff happening back in 2008, I was 16 at the time, I was on a bus for a track meet and there was a spontaneous, I don't even know what to call it, yelling fight? Half a bus yelling "YES ON 8" and half a bus going "NO ON 8"; basically arguing about whether or not I should have the ability to get married. Part of myself checked out that night and I quit the team by the end of my junior year of highschool; track and field is technically an individual sport but they tally points to decide which team wins and I thought, you know what? Fuck helping them with that. And I had no one to talk to, about any of that stuff. This series is super bittersweet, it's adorable, but it also makes you think about what you wish you could have had when you were younger. 8) FUCK BEN. I love that this series takes a nuanced approach and makes it clear, Ben isn't mistreating Charlie just by being in the closet and needing Charlie to resect that, he's being genuinely shitty, in multiple ways, and Charlie should unambiguously NOT be ok with that; and Nick coming in like a white knight when Ben was forcing himself on charlie; I remember squealing like my favorite boyband just came on stage when that happened, not just because of him interveneing in that scene but also it's so adorable that Nick is starting to care about Charlie enough that he notices when something is up and to take notice and folllow up. HOLY SHIT this all just commenting on episode 1 of your reaction, gonna have to put this into parts. Also also, apparently Nick's mom is super famous and I've just somehow avoided the stuff she's starred in cus multiple youtubers have absolutely FREAKED. OUT. that Olivia Colman is in this series as a part that wasn't really advertised. I will proceed to comment on the episode 2 part of your reaction, later, when I feel like it! Thanks for reacting so far!

Yeah Ben was really well written. It would have been easy to just make him a mustache twirling villain but he was written with nuance and complexity so its much more fun to hate his rancid ass. LMFAO
