Sol, a 23-year-old man was on his way to hang out with his childhood friend for the first time in three months. Coincidentally it had only been three months since his parents kicked him out of his house, and unfortunately, his new job wasn’t making ends meet in his new but small apartment. He hadn’t much in his name, just his work laptop, a pile of clothes, a futon in the middle of his living room along with a few other necessities. At this point in his life, he was just trying to survive being on his own. But that wasn’t the hardest part. Regardless of how mean his parents were to him, no matter how many times they made him feel like an embarrassment and a failure, he at least wasn’t alone. Work was hard, but coming home to his apartment every day with no one to greet him was the toughest part.

His childhood friend Lila, who is a talented and good-looking inventor and a couple of years older than him, invited him over saying that she could help. But with all the tough challenges the young man had faced over the past few weeks, he wasn’t feeling very enthusiastic. Upon arriving at his friend's nice looking one-story house, he knocked on the door and Lila answered only seconds later. The young woman had beautiful silky hair and a long ponytail, was about as tall as he was, and wore a pastel pink shirt summer dress with a long flowing skirt. Wasting no time, he threw her arms around him and gave him a big welcoming hug along with a playful peck on the cheek as he squeezed him. Though surprised, Sol let out a sigh In happiness, feeling some of the weight in his chest disappear as she hugged him.

“Hey Sol! It’s been a while! Come on in!” she said cheerfully. “Come in, I made some tea for us!” Releasing her hug, she guided him inside and closed the door behind them. Once inside, Lila and Sol were sitting in the living room on her couch in front of a nice wooden table with freshly made tea. The warm drinks filled the room with a calming aroma that almost made Sol feel at home, feeling his anxiety drift away with every breath he took. “So how was your new house? Must be nice to finally move away from your folks.” she asked. Sol sighed, flashes of his parent's demeaning remarks flooding his mind before shaking the thought away. “Actually, yeah. Being away from them has put me in a better place.” he said with a smile.

It was then that Lila noticed the bags under his eyes, and how exhausted his voice sounded. “Are you feeling all right?” she asked, scooting closer to him just a few inches from their shoulders touching. Before answering, he took a tiny sip of his tea, feeling slightly warmer the second the drink touched his lips. Upon drinking, he relaxed his shoulders and let out a soft but calm sigh. “Living on my own has been... better.” the young man hesitated to say. “And I would never go back home even if they gave me a choice. But being in an empty house has been the most difficult part. “With no one to come home to, parents or otherwise, I don’t look forward to going back home any more than I look forward to going into work.“

Taking another sip of the tea, he felt another bit of weight lift from his shoulders, as if his stress was melting away with every small sip. There was a moment of silence before Lila turned to him with a Playful smile. “Funny you should mention.” she said with a short pause getting Sol’s attention as he looked over to her, the bags under his eyes less noticeable than before. “Sometimes I also dread living by myself. And even with my job, it’s difficult for me to pay for all the necessities.” she then paused for a moment before taking a tiny swig of her tea as well, but just barely a sip. “So... I called you over to ask if you would like to live here with me.” The young man’s heart skipped a beat, looking into his friend in disbelief his eyes widening in disbelief. “This house feels so empty with only me living here. It’d be nice to have some company.”

Sol stuttered for a moment, he was so happy he honestly didn’t know how to respond, but he was also still frozen in disbelief. “Are.... y-you sure? I-I couldn’t-” he suddenly stopped as Lila placed her hand on his thigh, making him blush she scooted closer to him. “Hey, when we were younger you would always defend me from the other kids when they picked on me, think nothing of it.” she said softly, slowly taking her hand off his thigh. “Besides, I’d love to have you as my roommate.❤️” Lila giggled with a welcoming smile. Sol also smiled, almost tearing up with happiness, not just knowing that he wouldn’t be alone anymore, but knowing that his best friend wanted to live with him meant the world to him. “Buuuuuuut...” she teased in a high pitched voice while placing her tea back down on the table. "If you don't mind, I would like you to do a little favor for me."
