Unfinished & unissued comic project from the 90s!  "SUSY". A story about this fat office girl -Susy- who welcomes her fatter cousin. Cousin Katy owns a magic ribbon that makes fat people thin ...and viceversa.

It all started with the magazine add. That fat lady on the ad.

I wanted to know how old the fragment of the mag was. No date. But I am a resourceful man.I wanted to know how old the fragment of the mag was. No date. But I am a resourceful man.  I googled the year Mariel Hemingway did her famous first nude on US TV and it was September of 1991. Gotcha! The magazine where this advertisement appeared was the Sunday supplement of the newspaper we used to buy. Possibly September/October 1991. I was still finishing high-school. I kept the page until I draw the comic in the first months of 1992, -in paralell with my first office job, while I was still studying at the University, my first and only year.

****ACKNOWLEDGEMENT!**** This story contains some nasty old-fashioned (anchored to another era) biases concerning poor neighborhoods, African-American folks and Gipsy people. 19 years old Jay (my younger me) wasn't really taking in count this is racial segregation. I offer my apologies to everyone. I'm glad to say I've evolved in the last 28 years. My views upon different ethnias are completely different nowadays. It is important to explain the context of the Argentina of the beginning of the 90's. No people of black color and rarely Asian -or other not Caucasian ethnias- populated Buenos Aires almost the whole 20th. Century. The only racial diversity what we were used to was the Hollywood movies offer from the 80s. Crappy comedies like Trading Places (1983) and such -where black people is shown amongst all the prejudices you can think of-, and that was our reference of ethnic diversity. That was the prevailing context back in those days in the city -and the country- I lived, Buenos Aires, Argentina: a cultural knowledge of black matters shown and imported by American TELEVISION and CINEMA, because we had barely few or none.

For some views about the absence of African ethnicity in Argentina, watch this
video (Football context, but quite accurate).
