Current State
Part of my house flooded two weeks ago thanks to a recent hurricane. While my bed & computer are safe, my kitchen was practically wrecked. We lost the stove, water heater, boiler, gas, various freezers, and partial electricity. That means no warm water, limited refrigerator space, limited cooking options, and no heat for the winter. A lot of the garbage has been removed, but we still need to properly clean the space, since there’s plenty of dirt and crap all over the place.
However, even fixing just one of those things can cost up to $18,000… Which is very much beyond a comfortable price range, so it may not be worth fixing everything, depending on how long I plan to stay in this house.
Anyway, thank you for your support & patience during this time.
Commissions
I think I need to raise the price of commissions. Perhaps $120? Which means I would be earning 50% more money per commission, so doing 2 per day would be a lot like having done 3 at the previous price.
Every time I do commissions, I get exhausted after the first week. I’m still tired. I’m apprehensive about this price increase, but I can’t work my week away with back-to-back streams that don’t leave me with much time for anything else. This might allow me to cut down on 2-3 commissions every week, and not feel bad if I take longer than an hour on a single job. While I still might spend a lot of my time on commissions, it should alleviate the burden of such work long-term…
That said, this might result in a loss of sales, so it may not be permanent.
Beaumont Comic
I published the latest Beaumont story on itch.io last week. Although I hadn’t planned to publish this comic so soon, a friend convinced me to do so considering the recent flood.
In terms of sales, the latest comic performed 62% better than the prototype. It’s worth noting that this comic has only been available for a week, while the prototype was published 2 years ago (but it was also free to read). It is difficult to determine how much of this was genuine interest in the comic, people simply wanting to support me during a time of great need, or just luck. So, I’m uncertain if my next comic would perform as well.
Revamp Patreon Experience
Under the circumstances, I think I need to be more proactive in earning money and doing a better job with Patreon in particular. I haven’t seen an increase in my income for almost 2 years now, so I should probably update the Patreon. At least its presentation, anyway.
This will probably come in the form of a visual update with new graphical assets and more information. The perks themselves won’t be changing right now, so don’t worry about that… This is going to be a time of adjustment. I appreciate your support, and I apologize for my recent inactivity.
Don’t forget to eat & sleep.
