Dropbox Archive  -  Patron Sketch Suggestions  -  Rewards info  -  FAQ

I don’t have much to say because I am tired. That’s been happening a lot lately, particularly by the end of the month. If you haven’t checked the Dropbox Archive, please do so, as it is completely up to date with everything drawn this month.

I’ve been doing a lot of work lately…

That said, I haven’t worked on any image sets, and I’ve only spent a tiny bit of time outlining Beaumont-related short stories (of which there are 7 btw). I’m not entirely sure how I’m supposed to make time for bigger projects if I don’t ACTUALLY make time for them -- but doing so has proven difficult.

I find myself stuck between feeling like I’m working too much and like I’m not working hard enough.

Dedication & Goals

Perhaps each month should have a single, dedicated goal with the intentions of reaching a milestone by the end of each respective month? That seems smarter than casually working on 2-3 different things like I suggested in a previous post, but still has its own challenges.

Assuming this is the direction I want to move in, I’ll take the next few days determining what the goal of next month should be. Anyway…

Non-Negotiable Work Hours

I’m sure you won’t have any issues with the amount of work I’ve produced, but I feel as if I’m taking too long on some of it, delaying the production of OTHER creative work.

A warm-up sketch that takes too long to produce means that I have less time to work on commissions unless I were to spend even more time working… Which can be disruptive. That means I will either fall behind on my work schedule or I’ll have to sacrifice free time in order to continue working.

I think I need to be stricter with my work hours.

Let’s say that I want to limit my actual work time to 5 hours a day. What might a day of work look like?

  • 2 hrs for DM illustration
  • 1.5 hrs for commission
  • 1.5 hrs for other work

Assuming I get 8 hours of sleep, and I spend 3 hours on showering & eating… That gives me 8 hours to do other stuff, like relaxing, gaming, or other forms of creative expression.

Anyway, these are just some thoughts…

Tough Times

I understand how tough things are for everyone right now. I appreciate all the support you have given me, and all the support you plan to give me in the future. I will always do my best to provide the best experience that I can. Thank you. Please take care of yourself.

Don’t forget to eat & sleep.

You do great work, brell, and I think you deserve more time to relax than you do. Something to help you out with commissions and timing and all that stuff, have you tried using timers while you're working? I know with my commission you knocked it out in an hour, but that was with a sketch you made earlier since the idea intrigued you, so not sure how that would factor in to the time thing. Maybe you could plan on half an hour for the sketch, half an hour for the lines, and half an hour for the colors? Set timers and when that timer is up, go "Okay, I need to move on. This won't get any more perfect the more I muck with it?" Also, setting one goal for the month might be a good thing. Prioritizing the CG sets might be a good idea because the quicker you get one or two of those out the door, the faster you have passive income coming from those while you work on a few other things.
