Here's the most noteworthy pieces of art produced over the last week or so. Man, these posts are getting a lot longer with all of these commissions, aren't they? I've been working kinda hard lately, so I think I'm going to mostly take it easy today. So I don't plan to stream.

Work in Progress

Here's a preview for the next upcoming Dungeon Master Illustration. It's got some sort of anthropomorphic animal! That's not something I'm used to doing, so I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this, so it might go through a few more changes.

A Brief Discussion about Commissions

I've been taking commissions during livestreams and that's gone well.

I received 18 commissions this month, but we don't know if that is sustainable over a longer period of time. So, until there's anything to suggest otherwise, commissions aren't a reliable source of income yet.

The spread of CORVID-19 (the "Coronavirus") has me a bit worried, since many people are going to be working less, meaning that they'll have less money to spend on commissions...

We should really be trying to earn additional income anyway, since Patreon is only so much.

Regular Content for Sale

I recently talked to someone much smarter than me, and much more familiar with the hustle lifestyle. I gathered some advice from this discussion, and that's going to provide us with a bit more direction.

One of the most noteworthy ways to earn money is to… actually create products that can be sold. If we do this regularly, say every 3-4 months, then this can also be a means of generating passive income -- or money that can accrue over time. These products could be image sets, small games, or even comics.

We should consider trying to appeal to niche audiences, as well as those interested in pornographic art, since that tends to sell well.

So, here are a few ideas for possible image sets (a collection of themed illustrations).

The items outlined in red are the ones that will likely generate the most interest based on a preliminary screening to some patrons. They're all uniquely weird in their own way, while still offering some variety.

The Dungeon of Bad Ends makes for a good way to slowly introduce people to the Beaumont universe, which will hopefully make it easier to create actual comics featuring Elayne Beaumont in the future, as there would likely be more people interested in supporting them by then.

What about Games?

I mentioned games earlier, didn't I?

We've dabbled in game development a few times, so it is a potential avenue to consider. Between the two ideas outlined above, however, the visual novel is probably the smarter decision for a first project. Since it's much less complicated to design, y'know?

Although I recently began work on a Beaumont game in Dreams, it might be wise to halt our production since less people own a PS4. The same could be true of any Zelda fan-games on the engine too. While I might love to focus on that, they simply aren't as accessible as a game you could play on your PC…

If you'd like to read some of my thoughts on the Visual Novel idea, you can do so HERE.

Legend of Zelda - Female Link Comic

Did you know that I want to create my own Zelda stories featuring a Female Link?

Well, a terrible realization recently crept into my mind. As I obtain more popularity as an artist, we draw closer to the day that Nintendo might try to stop me from creating those stories…

I'm passionate about the Legend of Zelda and I want to create something to express that love before the opportunity vanishes. This has a lot more to do with emotional fulfillment than it does money, but it's a smarter business decision than Beaumont is right now, that's for sure.

So I created a plot outline. From start to finish.

By splitting the adventure into 3 separate books, we can clearly define the beginning, middle, and end of the bigger story. Now it no longer exists in a vague limbo, so there is a definitive narrative direction.

The outline still needs some adjusting. I want to hit all of the right emotional story beats and understand all of the stories before jumping into it, so it's still not finished. I also want to be able to provide surprises to people who just read this outline. So it would be fitting to look at this as an "alpha test outline."

I'm not sure when exactly I'll be getting around to this, but this is progress, so I thought I'd share it with you. I don't know how we're going to go about distributing & publishing this yet either, but let's take this one step at a time. That will be much more pressing when we're actually somewhat near producing said comic.

Closing Thoughts

There are a lot of things happening in this post, so let's take it slow, yeah?

We've got commissions going on right now, so let's try introducing an image set into the mix before taking on a million other responsibilities. I'm still open to other directions, but it is important that I've got SOMETHING to latch onto for the time being. It is worth noting that we probably won't see much of a return on image sets until we've got a few stacked up.

Remember, if you've any ideas of what I can do to improve the Patreon experience for you, just let me know. I want this to work for both you and I.

Don't forget to eat & sleep.

Calsetes

I think you have a lot of good ideas here to get started on ways to generate that passive income. I'm tempted to say the image sets might be a good starter, since they'd probably be relatively less work (a few images, then variations off those base images) and can get out there quicker than a game or a full comic would. Interesting Dungeon Master idea, too. Might have to think of something fantasy-inspired for my next one, too, hahahahaha. And as far as "the disease" goes, well, if you need a bit of cash at some point, just know that I'm always good for a commish, and I'm game for whatever you wanna do with it, be it one of my OCs or a brellomascot or whatever.
