Flannel Flower (Patreon)

An illustration much like the previous one, but more in line with my typical style. I expect to emulate & study Ayami Kojima's work more so that I can continue to learn from it in the future, and hopefully, integrate what I learn into my own work.
Also the very first major illustration using Elayne's newly composed design, as seen in the recent Concept Art & Discussion thread. I'm feeling MUCH more comfortable with it here, especially when she's got her exaggerated proportions.
Whereas the colour palette for the previous work was limited to a few colours, with a rich red contrasting against a bright near-white, I wanted to work with a series of saturated colours, like blue, red, and the darker skin-tone. The resulting piece appears much more dream-like.
The use of texture feels much more natural here, especially up by the moon. The strokes could easily be the exact motions one might use when painting the round shape of the moon. The flower themselves are an image brought in to the work, and although they are subtle, I do wish I edited them a bit more so their use was much more transformative. It's common for textures to be taken from elsewhere in digital painting, but it's always nice to make ready-made content more "yours" when you use it.
