For someone who isn't very skilled at environment art or painting, I seem oddly transfixed on a beautiful, almost painterly look for the world. Ideally, I'd probably have something that looked light and vibrant, like watercolour. One thing's apparent, I need to start practicing landscapes AND colour theory now.

The idea of hand-drawing each area has occurred to me, but it seems like a bad idea for something that's probably going to be a rather large world. It might mean difficulty in maintaining a grid in the overworld and map editting.

Another issue that came up in my thinkings was how to handle perspective. A lot of older top-down games cheat (A Link Between Worlds also did so), by skewing the objects so that you see them both simultaneously from above and from the front. So I'm not sure how I'd plan to tackle that.

Though I suppose there's no rush to think about all of this. This idea is a pretty big one to tackle while I'm out of practice. Perhaps I'll dabble with something smaller tonight or something.

I like it, it seems very ambient and soft aesthetically speaking. It really does show your brell exclusive creativity!
