Patreon's Updated Policy

Patreon has finally updated the text in their Policy Guidelines, and it's as difficult to work with as you'd imagine. But here's the short of it:

  • Characters are required to demonstrate consent, either via statement or clear affirmative actions. Facial expressions and body language will be taken into account.
  • Likewise, "consensual non-consent" is not permitted. If the artist says that it was consensual but the characters do not "adequately" demonstrate this, this is a violation.
  • Participants must be ABLE to give consent (i.e. not be under the influence of drugs, alcohol, hypnosis, or blackmail).

None of this is new to those of us in the know. But now that it's in writing, they're going to be more firm in their enforcement. I've already seen a few other artists experience difficulties because of it. They're slowly pressuring on artists and even a few fetishes, like feederism, is being targeted too - due to it "glorifying bad habits" and stuff and what not.

This is irrelevant to users on SubscribeStar, but it's obviously putting pressure on me.

Lack of Motivation

Lately, my feelings have been very... "What is the point? None of what I make matters." So it's been a little tough to find motivation as of the last week or so (though these sentiments have been present for a few months now).

I was able to maintain productivity with my last comic because I had a lot of it sketched ahead of time. But having to come up with new stuff - and for the sole purpose of making money too - is just kinda tough. It's difficult to motivate the creation of such things, plus most of my art is purely "fast food" and I lack the expertise to compete with other artists in the same field. It's rough and additional pressure from corporations is also discouraging.

You don't need to worry about the promised monthly sketches - those will get done without any problem. The problem is doing all of that extra stuff: the personal projects, the stuff for passive income, and commissions. Maybe I should just focus on the game project instead of trying to come up with a bunch of new pay-comics.

Anyway this was just a brief little update. I figured it was worth sharing it, especially now that Patreon has officially update its policy guidelines.

Don't forget to eat & sleep.

So sorry to hear you're having some rough thoughts. Please remember you have a lot of fans who are always happy to see your work.
