Where's Eddache? (Patreon)

I've reached the difficult conclusion to NOT release an Eddache video this month (April 2023). Here's why.

At the end of last year, I sat down and planned what video I'll be doing every month in 2023. Previously I often spent a long time debating what video to make and waste a lot of time doing so. By planning videos well in advance, it eliminates that deliberating phase plus it's not all set in stone, so it's flexible enough that I could simply do something else if I want to, say if I'm suddenly obsessed with a new tv show.

My son is in his first year of school and it's a lifestyle and routine change we're still getting used to. Immediately after the April Fools Day video, he had two weeks off school for Easter break. I was aware of this when planning my videos, so my idea for the month of April was to be about Peter Pan. Something that doesn't need me to watch a whole bunch of movies or binge a tv show. Even with the free time between working I have to put to one side to look after my son while he's off school, it's still a pretty straight forward video idea.

Except it's not.

To TRULY make this Peter Pan video justice, such as learning more about Native American heritage and speaking with people on the matter, I need more time. I can't half-arse this sensitive subject. And the April Fools Video was so much larger than anticipated, I couldn't doing any prep work in March ahead of the Easter break. I thought maybe I could catch up, but I couldn't.

I debated for a long time what video I could make instead and fell back into that time-wasting deliberating phase again, this time conflicting with spending time with my son while he's off school. Naturally, I prioritised time with him more than the video (incidentally, he really enjoyed the Mario Movie! His first ever trip to the cinema!). 

One resolve I had for this situation was to do a video about American Pie. I can spend the day with my son and then spend my evenings watching sex comedy movies and then make a video about it, so in the space of a week I've seen FOUR American Pie movies (there's NINE of them!!!) plus Porky's, Revenge Of The Nerds, Fast Times In Ridgemont High and Superbad. All to build up to an analysis of American Pie and it's impact. With a few more sex comedy movies to watch, maybe THAT could be the new Eddache video idea.

Which brings us to now. With the work I've done so far, I could spend two weeks rushing to make a video about American Pie or something else entirely, which would make for (what I know in my heart will be) a subpar video for April. Or I can spend six weeks making an even better video for May. So I'm going to do that.

I'm parking the Peter Pan AND the American Pie video ideas for now. Given I've gotten a head start on the research for those, hopefully that'll help the turnaround go much faster down the line when I do finally make them. My planned May video is something I'm extremely excited to make. I'll be brief the specifics for now, but it's an idea I've been wanting to do for a long time (like the April Fools one) - this time about Winnie The Pooh.

As Patrons, you've come to expect monthly videos from me which, barring the odd month in the past four or five years of making video essays, I've delivered on. I don't feel happy to deliberately "skip" a month but I'd rather deliver quality than quantity. I hope I've explained the situation so you can understand my difficult position. Any Patron shoutouts and name in credits will carry over to the next video no matter what, even if you should decide to leave now.

Going forward, I hope to prepare more for those school breaks with my son and balance videos around it. As for the missing void of this month, I aim to fill it up with something, I just haven't settled on what yet. Perhaps a livestream Q&A?
