Britain vs Ninjas (Patreon)

When the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first arrived in the UK in 1990, they were ordered to make a lot of edits in the show. Cut any use of nunchucks (Mikey's weapon of choice) and even cut the word NINJA from the title of the show.

This lead to a lot of awkward edits and in some cases just totally ruined the end product, although it didn't stop from being a sensation. And while it might seem laughable now, there's not much to stop this sort of thing from happening again.

So ok. WHY was the UK so scared of ninjas? What were the events that led up to the Turtles that made ninja such a dirty word? And why is that baby holding a throwing star?
