After Commander Sheperd defeated the Reapers and broke the cycle of death, Sheperd's former crewmember Ashley Williams found herself being offered a promotion to the rank of Commander. Accepting the promotion, now Cmdr. Williams was given command of her own ship by the Alliance, much in the same way Sheperd was when appointed as a Council Spectre. Around the same time, the Systems Alliance was pushing out a new wave of genetic modifications to their soldiers to make them stronger and better able to stand up to the potential foes of Humanity. Williams was among the first to receive this new round of augmentations, only for a side effect to start cropping up in some of the female servicemembers that received the treatment. Rather than simply improving the strength and density of the muscle fibers, the women that experienced this side effect of the treatment would find their muscles growing to superhuman sizes a few months after the treatment. A reversing treatment was eventually developed that would reduce the muscle mass of the women effected, while retaining the strength increases, but most of the women opted to keep the muscles, as they had grown (literally) to like them, such as Commander Williams here.
