WIP, BTS, preview of the upcoming sequence.

Turns out, the long render time was not her hair. But, the final renders will have her skin looking a bit different than the original, though not terribly so.

Why was the long render time?

Well, I tweaked a lot of settings, but it seems that the big thing was that there was just the slightest bit of reflectivity across the whole character. And when you're rendering with Iray, like I do, and you don't have an RTX card, reflections can mean that you're asking your computer to exponentially increase the amount of calculations it has to do. Well, that's also true when you have an RTX card, but those cards, and AMD's latest stock, have processor cores specifically designed to do ray-trace calculations, so they can do it astronomically faster than previous cards.

Why should there be reflections on the body? Is the body oiled?

ABax

This character is not sweaty or oily, or otherwise affected by anything that would reasonably make anybody think there should be reflections. I did not add reflections to the character in the first place, that would be the artist that made the character. This character is actually based off of Tatiana HD on Daz3D's website. As to why the character artist decided to make her ever so slightly reflective, well, I imagine it has to do with trying to make the character as life-like as possible. The way light works in reality means that virtually every surface is in some way reflective. If any surface were not in some way reflective, then you would not be able to see it, unless that surface emits light itself, such as a flame. Well, there's a lot to it, but that's the basic reasoning I figure they used to justify making the character slightly reflective. What you see in the render wouldn't register to you necessarily as a reflection, but you would think the character is generally more a part of its environment, rather than seeming like it's floating above the background.
