Man Hasegawa Ikumi's voice acting is great. You would never noticed that Übel and Kita from Bocchi the rock are the same VA

Nonkin

Technically, Fern can get away with beam-spam because quickfire is something she naturally has (making the saturation attack scale up even harder than it “should” be able to), whereas even Frieren has to make her shots count.

Anderson Lake(The Bleach)

37:52 Illusion magic may not be basic in Frieren. Aside from the monster with the memories, I'm pretty sure Land is the first Mage we've seen use it.

Anderson Lake(The Bleach)

40:05 Fern said they should go help Land and Ubel said he's quite the pretender so Fern may not have noticed but Ubel did.

godUsoland

Wirbel is such a cool character! I like his style and magic too. We need to see a lot more of him!

godUsoland

I thought Lee would freak out over Scharf creating a Metal Senbonzakura lol

LordDanzo

I think it's deeper than "characters are not what they seem". More like magic gives a better reflection of the person than what their looks would make you think. Wirbel is good at binding because he wants to delay killing. Land is good at making clones because he distrusts other people and doesn't want to show others the real him. I feel like there's a connection between Fern's ability to hide her mana and the loss of her parents but I can't make it. The other mages must have something like this too, we just don't know their magic/personality enough to make the connection.

If I was Frieren, I would've used Jilwer to knock out both of them, then go chase after Laufen. A wise man once said, I don't believe in relying on luck. You prepare, you plan for an opportunity, and then you seize it. THAT'S something you can rely on. Frieren prepared, she planned, and she seized.

I was so mad at this cliffhanger that I finally read ahead in the manga. Not only it made me really hyped for the rest of this arc, but it made me realize just how faithful this anime is as an adaptation. There's practically nothing skipped so far, and the pacing seems perfect to finish this arc in this season. Truly a masterpiece, next episode will be amazing.

The Law_v1001

I mean senbonzakura is metal just broken down into tiny pieces. It reminded me more of Lucifers daughter wings in Lucifer.

The Law_v1001

I think frieren and Fern are so use to doing there own things and don't interact with other magicians. That they are seeing and know what they are doing but just think it's normal. It's like they think their common knowledge is everyone's. Which is interesting because I feel like that's something frieren influenced Fern.

Osiris Cage

The end discussion gave me a deeper appreciation from this episode and the anime as a whole. Definitely a goated anime

PrimordialLife

I dont think frieren knows that spell, it is passed down among a tribe. She just knows of it.

dani oz

Ferns team is stacked. She got female Sukuna and budget Aizen on her team lol

You pronounce frieren a certain way because all the names here in the series are german. Frieren in german actually means "ice cold, freezing, or winter". It is the generalization of what cold or winter can be. In this series it plays on her type of personality and her loneliness at the start of the series. The pronunciation is sort of rolling the R with an L. So basically "FRLEE-RLEN". Add a mix of an R and an L when the R shows up in the name. Also a fun fact if I remember correctly Fern means "distant" which points directly toward her attitude of being around people. She tends to stay emotionally distant from others. Especially stark because he is her love interest and she doesn't know how to handle that. Stark btw is pretty simple it means "strong". HIMmel aka the goat means "heavenly or sky" or something similar to that. Heiter means "happy, cheerful, and bright". Eisen means "iron" which works since he is so durable and works for his personality. All of these names work very well to describe the character that embodies those names.

L.C.

I hope that information helps you out. I wouldn't worry about pronouncing it correctly all that much. Although I cringe when I hear "free eren" cause I am an AOT hater.

Yaboyrocklee

Correct. I do know they are german names and i acknowledged saying it wrong. I tweeted about them being German names. https://x.com/yaboyrocklee_/status/1747854152246477134?s=46

L.C.

Yeah that wasn't really my point though. It isn't hard to tell they are German if you know what the language sounds like. I think the cool part is knowing what they mean and connecting it to the character. It would be funny if you practiced saying Frieren properly and getting adorkables response to it next episode reaction. Although that might make her say free eren even more. Might end up backfiring on me lol

Lotus Gramarye

Frieren is goated for giving each and every side character here enough characterization to be a main character in their own right. It's a narrative very respectful to the characters it creates and it also serves to deepen the world by reminding us that our party is just another group of adventurers in this grand fantasy world.

Pilausky

20 episodes in and Frieren don’t miss.

BarGamer

No, she saw it in action 3 times right then. If she was a Copy Ninja or whatever the equivalent was, she could've learned it right then.

Barry

Frieren is a great detox from all the power fantasy isekais/shounens out there. The show has made it a point to note that Frieren always means exactly what she says. Frieren said she can be beaten by regular Human/Dwarves, yet all the usual battle animes have trained us to not believe the MC can lose! Before anyone thinks I'm hating on those other genres, my favourite anime is Bleach!

Edrei Z.

I learned recently that Fern's VA also voiced Suletta. So the scene where she spams the ordinary offensive spell is like a reference to Aerial's Gun Bit attacks in Witch from Mercury.

Florin

She's not a copy ninja, that's not how spell learning works

Wolfking Theoutlaw

Its funny, If you look you can see the greenscreen? In the back lol, it looks like the defensive magic in the show.

BarGamer

Qual figured out the new defensive shield magic after seeing it once. But besides that, do you not know what "if" means? Are you not familiar with fan speculation? I'm just thinking of alternate possibilities.

Skebaba

Eyo Lee what model is that chair? Been trying to find a decent mesh chair myself, especially for summer use

Skebaba

Frieren doesn't need to beam-spam, she can just War of Attrition an opponent's ass w/ her superior 1k+ year mana pool

Nonkin

Frieren ‘can’ if she doesn’t mind it getting out just how much mana she has, and if she isn’t dealing with those simply more skilled than her; she’s already on record losing like a dozen times to mages that /didn’t/ have her wealth of mana. So, even minding her experience and ‘power,’ Frieren still needs to make her shots count.

Skebaba

Correct. The reason you need a 1st class Mage (and back in the day a high-grade Priest too, the requirements of a mere 1st class Mage to enter the northenmost areas is basically a lesser one than back in the day) to be allowed to the north, is because the north is INFESTED w/ Einsem (the type of ambush side-grade monsters we saw in like E4 or w/e, where they illusion trap your ass by scanning your mind & 100% faithfully replicating your memory data. I bet that they'd have similar-ish ancestors as Demons do, the types of monsters who do underhanded shit like luring their prey to clap em, but the tactics are slightly different in that one uses illusions to trap the prey, and the other just lures them to approach for an easy kill via ambush attack). Einsem are basically THE illusion-type monster, more or less an apex species in their own niche as far as monsters go

Skebaba

Qual is far more R&D specced than Frieren is tho, he literally made up a magic category that no-sells defenses entirely, disintegrating the target. I've yet to see Frieren actually make a wholeass sub-category of magic on her own, instead of just looting the random spells etc that other people created. The fact that Frieren didn't figure out the counter to Zoltraak back when they had to Seal Qual up is proof enough that she ISN'T on his level, because after he blasted at them w/ Zoltraak, she should have known how to use it herself, just like how Qual instantly started to replicate the barrier magic after seeing it once a few seconds ago, instantly also figuring its weakness as well

BarGamer

I'd argue that Frieren was responsible for reverse-engineering Zoltraak, incorporating it into Humanity's offensive magic, as well as developing defensive magic that counters Zoltraak, but whatever, I'm done with this.
